Birthplace: Konan
Affiliation: Suzaku
Appearance:
Isamu has very long soft dark hair with loosen short hair on the front and the long dark hair is tied by a long white ribbon. His eyes are light golden brown, however when enraged they take up a piercing colour that could frighten any opponent for this man has seen much grief and now as a bodyguard, he truly protects those who either pay for his services or he simply decides to help due to their helplessness. He is a very tall man standing at 6' 1" and due to the many years he trained hard and was a knight and a General before becoming a bodyguard and even after, his body is well built and his fitness is outstanding. He usually wears black trousers and brown boots and a black shirt underneath a navy-blue tunic with white edges where his belt holds his sword. His cloak is of a darker blue, although a man from the Suzaku affiliation, he wears these colours in remembrance of the land he came from, of the family he lost, and the person he would never be again.
Personality:
Cold and distant - yet caring: Isamu encompassed terrible things in his past and it ensured he closed his feelings and emotions, his heart even, in an icy box and did not let anyone in. that way he protected himself against any more pain, against growing close to someone else before they are taken away form him, the past marked him so that he dreaded fate to repeat itself. In a way that also made him caring for others, for he can see their pain and in a way read their sorrow quite easily, he is that emphatic... As such, when he vows to protect someone, he does so until the very end of that task, even if it is at the cost of his very life and this belief grew within him the moment he became a bodyguard. In a way it made him feel useful, he felt that he was finally doing something to stop darkness from destroying the lives of others, if he could not be happy he would at least ensure others were, that seemed to make his heart ache less...
Perfectionist: Due to the incidents in his past and the great losses, he decided to protect others, to escort them safely on their trips or do jobs rendering protection for a certain amount of time, which made him a renown bodyguard. That said, he is very demanding of himself and he ensured to do every single job perfectly. He does not allow himself to be off guard at any moment nor does he allow any more mistakes. Having been impotent back then, now that he had the power and skill to render protection, he would gladly do so. And so he constantly strove to master this technique not only in fighting skills but also tactics and wisdom.
Loyal: Like a good bodyguard, Isamu is loyal until the very end. He follows his own intuition and beliefs when he accepts a job or even takes part in protecting others. Although he respects Suzaku, he believes that a man can only forge his own future by fighting to achieve it, life would not one day knock on his door and make him happy, he had to find that happiness himself and so he decided if he helped others or not, that part of his freedom was one of the few things he had left of his old self. He also has a deep fondness of music and plays the shamisen, especially when he is on his own. It belonged to his father.
History:
In one of the cities of Konan there dwelled a proud and noble family by he name of Li, the father was called Kazuki, for he was the tree of the family, the basis and pillars that held together the legends of old, for since its origins the Li became a great family dedicated to knighthood and the well-being of the people. Word had it that among their lineage a powerful Seishi had passed down on history as a hero and with that pride the Lord Li educated Isamu to follow his footsteps form a very early age. his mother Youko, as beautiful as the sun, and his younger sister Reika decorated the city with their beauty, innocence and benevolence making everyone around them happy. It was a solitary city, but one in very good terms with Konan and one to serve the Empire faithfully. but that would not have pleased the Gods. Around that time he met another boy called Hanzo and both became inseparable friends and promised one another they would become the strongest Generals in the Konan army. When Isamu was but thirteen springs, and happy that he had been invited to train with the army to honour his father's wishes for him to become the most powerful and wise knight, the city was destroyed by a merciless raid from men he believed to be from Sailo. He ran as fast as his legs allowed him to, only to feel a piercing pain in his heart at the sight that greeted him, his house had been destroyed and no rock stood left that proclaimed the legendary family hat had once existed. And what is more, he found his sister had been tormented in ways unimaginable before she had been killed. He gasped as he heard the screams of pain and terror that pierces his confused mind and he ran, he ran in that direction to find three men attacking his mother and he was disgusted by them, yet, as he confronted them and brought down two, the third hit him so hard on the head that he only woke up the next day in a city covered in ashes and destruction and death. At first he stared at his loved ones in shock, but then he gave a piercing scream and finally collapsed on his knees crying his heart out. It was then when amidst his angst his powers began to manifest themselves, especially his elemental ice abilities, since everything around him began to freeze at a great speed. It took him several days to recover and as he looked at the parchment that stated he had been welcomed to join the army he couched it in his hand and joined with the hopes of avenging his family's honour. He had to admit he probably would have given in to despair had his friendship with Hanzo not been as strong as it was. He remained grateful to this day.
For the next eight years, Isamu worked his way to perfect every fighting skill, with almost any weapon and on foot or horseback, which earned him the praise of many and the hatred of others. Some taunted him due to his legendary family and others praised him for it. but this ensured he kept humble and did not brag about something that ceased to exist when he was but a boy, and yet he never forgave himself for letting that happen, for being unable to stop it... And he easily climbed through the ranks, from foot soldier to Captain of the cavalry and to General of the forces of Konan alongside his friend Hanzo. And when he was but twenty, a rather young age for such an accomplishment, he was at his prime and ensured to have everything ready in cast the enemy finally attacked Konan. It was when fighting a skirmish nearby the border cities that he first encountered Aoi, a lady who seemed to have fled the enemy. Finding her weak and helpless stirred something within him and he took her in and tended to her until she was strong enough to find her homelands once more. What began as a strong and gentle friendship evolved into a passionate love which was never consummated. And it was her who insisted that he accompanied her to her homelands and stayed with her, she blackmailed him stating she could not live without him and she was helpless and still affected by that raid.
He was naïve still back then and his heart was open to the world. And he accepted to accompany her to her homelands only to be ambushed and taken to a fortress in Sailo to be tortured for information on their enemy. Apparently Aoi was one of the lovers of one of he Generals called Akhram (being his family to blame for the destruction of Isamu's family) who had put on quite a show to bring Isamu to his knees and then betray him, something that hurt his heart like a thousand knives. However, the memory of his past and the loyalty to his Empire forced him to stand all the torture, abuse and humiliation until the day that luckily he had managed to escape thanks to the help of his friend Hanzo who came looking for him as soon as he realised what happened. He was so let down by his Empire even that he did not return to be a General, for he never received any help nor did the Empire try to make a deal with General Akhram. That implied that they truly did not value their Generals and as such their people meant even less to them... Bitter by such experiences he swore to only concentrate on protecting those in need now, and he closed his heart to love or any personal emotion and concentrated on making others happy. He decided that he had been banned from happiness...And he resigned to such fate. What he could never understand was how Aoi, having known his past and grief, still managed to trick him so heartlessly. News of Aoi's death soon reached his ears and even that did not appease his soul and only made him less lively. He can be benevolent with his customers and his eyes can sparkle in the middle of a battle but when looking closely, during everyday life, there is a great sorrow in them, something that keeps eating him inside and consuming his being. It was around that time that Hanzo lost his beloved wife and Isamu rushed to help his friend just as he had always been there to help him. He only regretted that they could not save her, he felt sorrow at the change his friend Hanzo experienced as he left the army and became a trailing bard but he knew their friendship and bond remained intact and they would always keep in touch be be there for each other. It was his remaining bond and he treasure dit more than anything else.
Important NPCs: The people he protects as a bodyguard who are not the Miko or other Seishi. One mayor NPC is Akhram, the General who ordered Isamu's capture and betrayal who now looks for him to finish what he calls "unfinished business". Akhram's family was also to blame for the annihilation of Isamu's family and lineage making him the last person from that noble family.

Isamu Li was riding his horse at full gallop through the plains that took the weary traveller through the forest and beyond, to Konan; he only looked behind occasionally to see the twenty men still following his tracks. He turned to look at the path ahead and encouraged Arbellason to gallop even faster trying to use the shapes and sizes of the trees as he entered the woods as a means to make the men lose his tracks and as he did so he did not repair to think there might be someone in the woods looking for solitude. He was busier trying to find ways in which to get rid of this pest of burglars who normally intercepted the path he had followed and killed the people and stole all they could from the caravans. And so he made use of his knowledge of the land to get what he wanted.
Some would fall on the strong river branches and others would lose track of him but it was the leader and the remaining followers the ones to persist and ride along looking for shortcuts to get to Balamaethor. All this because he dared to save two small children form being killed. He rolled his eyes at their malice and then suddenly the men on horses surrounded him. Arbellason neigh on two legs but the ranger knew that if he rode on they would shoot his dear friend and he surely could not lose such noble horse and companion. He groaned in anger and as the leader jumped off his horse he did the same with Rin in this hand. He had been trying to avoid unnecessary killing but now it seemed that his own life was being threatened so he would have to fight with the skills he learned years ago. And so the leader of the thieves attacked him and then followed the rest of them.
Isamu fought with great skill and was rather relieved when Arbellason rode away form the danger with the young child on its back holding on to the saddle as Isamu told him. The bodyguard in the meantime fought for his life and skilfully avoided arrows and swords though receiving the occasional cut. By the time the battle ended most of the thieves left wounded and swearing to revenge. Isamu leaned heavily against a tree and closed his eyes placing the blade of his sword against the ground and leaning his head on the trunk of the tree. He sighed in tiredness; it had been a long journey for him to come across these spiteful men. Arbellason then approached and seemed to be questioning why he had let them live when they would kill others. But it really wasn’t in his hands to decide who would die and who would live right?
He felt his horse’s nose against his cheek and smiled though he remained likewise with his eyes closed trying to recover from such event and then smiled at the little girl as she spread her arms in order for him to carry her, she could not be older than four springs. He picked her up for a moment and then placed her safely on the ground, he assured her she was safe now and he was glad he had made sure earlier that the corpses did not pollute the woods or the water and were buried properly…
He was about to sheathe his sword when suddenly the little girl embraced him in fear, as she seemed to hear something, or someone approaching. He frowned, if those bandits were back he would truly give them a hard time. He did not move and his eyes looked in the direction the little girl was gazing, his hand, which was placed on her shoulder covered her with his cloak for protection and he took the hilt of his sword with his other hand, reading his arm in a defensive stance yet still without moving his body as he whispered to the girl, “Fear not, I’m here.” Whatever or whoever was that approached them he would be ready. Arbellason’s ears twitched yet the horse did not seem that worried.
