Name: Akahana Eriko (“Red Rose” and “child blessed with logic”)
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Position: Seiryuu no Miko
Symbol and location: N/A
Power: She can to sense her Seishi from a good distance and their emotions. However, due to her background she is not well versed on the meanings of most human emotions and would not know what to do with the information. When she meets one of her Seishi for the first time, she sees a blue beam of light emanating form them and surrounding them.
She has enhanced speed form the moment she entered the book which allows her to protect herself and fight all her battles. However, it can only be used if she commands the energy, and she dares not exploit it too much since she rather fight most of the time by her own innate skills, she is that proud… Furthermore, as long as she is close to one of her Seishi her fighting skills are enhanced depending on the powers of that Seishi. She cannot summon this on her own though, as it depends on her Seishi and the fight at hand.
Weapon: Akahana has twin swords she brought along form her own world. Link to her twin swords.
Birthplace: Okinawa, Japan.
Affiliation: Seriyuu
Appearance:
~ Art by Abrar Tajwar Evan
Akahana has long red hair which is usually braided into a pony tail with some shorter hair falling on her shoulders and a side fringe. Her ponytail is held by an engraved holder of a copper and golden tone. She is rather tall for a girl standing at 5’ 10” and her body is slightly tanned due to her way of life. She has eyes which are actually a red colour which shines with a piercing light whenever she experiences strong emotions or is in the middle of a fight. Her eyes are deep and scrutinising although cold and calculating. She is rather fit and athletic and usually wears clothes that are comfortable for her constant practice of martial arts, which some would conceive as scandalous. She mainly wears a white t-shirt to her mid upper body that is decorated in Japanese characters and has some leather bits around. She wears red trousers. Unless she has to dress for battle, then she will wear silver armour and a skirt with armour on the waist. She carries her blades on her back in their respective sheathes. She also has an arm bracelet on the right arm and a red dragon tattoo on her left under arm. It is not too big but easily spotted.
Personality:
Proud and stubborn: Akahana is rather proud of her own merits, who would not be in her situation? But she takes it up to a fault and that does not help her, it could be used against her by an enemy or it could force her to make rushed decisions, such as being rebellious and rather distant from everyone else, which means she is missing out on the grand scheme of things. She is so happy with her skills and abilities and so independent that her pride blinds her and makes her believe she can come out of every single situation without anyone else’s help. She had never failed in the past and it only helps make her ego even greater that way, thinking that if she did not fail then she would not fail now… That adding up to her narrow-minded attitude makes it difficult for her not to get into trouble most of the time. When she makes up her mind it is almost impossible to make her do otherwise. All in all these are traits of a strong and independent person but to such extreme they could also be used against her.
Mistrustful and distant: She was born in Okinawa, however, she was soon exposed to life in Tokyo and this changed her. Akahana learned that trusting others would only put her life at risk and so long as she kept away form everyone there was no way she would get hurt, physically or emotionally. This was her theory at least and she doubted it would fail, since it had worked for many years. If you trust no one, you won’t feel the shock of treason. This means that her humanity is rather limited for she has been exposed to few emotions, mostly those that are not entirely useful at making her a gentle and warm being. It is very likely that if she were to be exposed to emotions she does not recognise, such as all those that warm the heart, then she would not know what to do. She has no experience in dealing with them and it would be outside her comfort zone.
Lonely and unsure: Although a strong woman, deep inside Akahana is rather lonely and unsure of many things. This is the result of her lifestyle, unable to develop most human emotions naturally and surrounded by others who would wish to help her or die her affection. Perhaps the thought of protecting herself for many years and not relying on others at times made her wonder what it would be like to come cross someone much stronger than her or better versed in the fighting arts who could best her in protecting her persona. Yet she had yet to meet such person, and through the coldness of her existence, she is also a rather confused or uncertain person, that happened with years of bottling things up and resigning to the incidents instead fo talking to others about it. She has only had one person to confide in, in her own way, and that was Gina. But even Gina did not know of the depths of Akahana’s past. And so, she has yet to meet someone who will understand her and perhaps inspire warmer emotions in her cold heart in order to make it beat once again and get rid of the frost that kept it locked inside years ago.
History:
It could be said that Akahana lived a somewhat happy life until she reached the age of five with her beloved mother who. However, at that time, feeling their poorness overwhelming and fearing Akahana might not survive with their current way of life, her mother began dating a man the red-haired girl did not approve of and was rather scared of. Something inside Akahana warned her of the danger this man brought to their lives and she tried to warn her mother but she thought her a silly jealous girl because she was not receiving all her attention. It frustrated her greatly that her own mother would not listen to her and they were so poor she had no one to talk to, no friend to help her, no way to escape the darkness that would take hold of her life.
In the end, Akahana’s fears were proven correct, the man turned out to be an abuser and would at times try and attack the little girl. Her mother always protected her, however, and though the young girl did not understand why she stayed with that man, she learned the best thing she could do at such a tender age was to run away and hide whenever that would happen and cry herself to sleep by the ocean shores. It was probably a bad idea to stray to far from her home but the fear was too great and her loneliness made her aware that she had to protect herself as her mother was not strong enough to fight that man. This became a nearly daily situation until the day the man had his way with her mother and murdered her firing the little girls to watch such traumatic event. At that moment something inside of her changed, she felt unable to cry anymore, but she suffered so much she immediately ran away, as far as her legs would allow her to and she finally came across a clearing where she finally collapsed and darkness filled her heart.
By the time she came back to her senses she realised that she was by the shade of a tree and a dark-haired man was looking at her from the other side of a bonfire. He was called Zuku and he became her mentor in the martial arts, survival and handling of weapons. She learned of herbs that could kill and heal and she even learned how to write, read and express herself better. It represented progress fo some sort for her humanity, as the person she was interacting with was not harming her the same way her mother was by staying with that murderer. She developed a good eye for detail and had a good logic mind that Zuku made the best of. However, her first years and innocence departed the moment she reached fifteen years of age. It was then that the fatherly figure she had always admired and cherished showed his true colours and in order to keep her safe and respect her she had to steal, kidnap or assassinate. Her hands got tainted by the blood she shed of innocent and guilty people alike and the memories of the people gone past tormented her every night. And this man’s treason was such that she closed herself to the world, she became cold and spoke little. She no longer smiled and rather kept a silent and serious stare. Her emotions were locked deep inside herself and she never forget a single life she took. Even though she prayed for their souls and apologised countless times, she knew she could not forget because her hands enforced a crime abasing life, for she controlled life and death.
It was around that time that she met Gina and thought she never understood why the girl enjoyed her silent company so much something in her heart threatened to escape whenever they spent time together. For the most part they would sit by the ocean and read books in silence, or she would just listen to anything Gina told her about school and University. But what she enjoyed the most was when they practiced fighting together, being sword-buddies helped them both improve, become better friends and release steam. Her only means of escape whenever Gina was not keeping her company would be through reading books. It was the one thing that rendered her comfort and an escapade from this current situation. Ironically, this one pastime of hers would give her the key to full happiness or grief.
It happened that, through her never-ending thirst for books, she finally came across one that would change her life forever. It was called “The Universe of the Four Gods” and she found it in an abandoned house which had collapsed during a fire many years ago. She was not sure what drew her to this place or how the incident had happened as it wasn’t a common thing in that area. She was not one of those people who believed things happened because of fate or destiny or any higher power, however, she could not deny the strange feelings that finding such a book in such a place inspired within her. It was almost as if a voice were begging her to open the book and read its contents. She was not too thrilled about reading a book on deities, but she decided it would do her no harm to open the book and read a few pages. If she did not like it she could give it to Gina or one of those second hand book shops.
Unable to contain her curiosity, she sat down by the remains of the window and began reading and suddenly… one day she found herself in a world she could not recognise as her home…the journey had begun…and a new life perhaps?
Important NPCs: Zuku Link to his appearance - It might be a good idea to bring him back to the modern world or into the book at some point for her personal plot.
