Name: Yoshirou Hasamaru
Gender: Male
Age: Actual age: 75, apparent age: 21
Occupation: Former Seishi, Currently a traveler who works for the Fiends.
Birthplace: A small village in Sailo
Abilities: As a former Byakko Seishi, he still has access to all the powers he had as a Seishi.
Fire: His primary ability is to create and manipulate fire. Naturally, the larger the fire he is manipulating, the more energy it uses, but since he has joined up with the Fiends he has found a way around that...(see below.) Originally it looked like normal fire, but since he has joined up with the Fiends, it has changed color and is now a blackish-purple color. He can use his powers to start campfires and the like, and that's the only time the flames remain a normal color.
Fire Wall: An extension of his ability to manipulate fire, this is primarily used to either wall in an opponent for a one-on-one battle, or to protect others by using fire to keep attackers out. It creates a near impenetrable wall of flame around whatever he chooses. It can use a lot of energy to start, depending on how large the area is he needs to cover, but usually after the fire is started, he can leave it on it's own, and only has to use more energy when he's ready to put the fire out.
Since joining with the Fiends, he has developed one major ability he did not have before.
Power Drain: Yoshirou has discovered that, when his energy is getting low, he can draw on living things around him. He takes the life energy from them to restore his own. It works on everything from plants and animals to other people, and has a restorative effect on both his energy levels and sometimes his body. He tries not to use this ability, however, because there is a part of him that still prefers to protect and not harm-as he was taught to do as a Seishi. Still, he will use this in battle if he needs an energy boost, or if he's injured and can't continue on without restoring himself.
Weapons: He made it a point to master several weapons when training as a Seishi, hoping to better protect his Miko. He gained the most skill with, and the most fondness for archery, and so he is always seen with a quiver and bow strapped to his back. He also has a long knife concealed in each boot, and uses them when his bow is less practical. He is fond of combining his ability with flame with his weapons in battle. Being able to control the flames means he can ensure they don't damage the knives or the arrows, but have the desired affect on his opponent.
Affiliation: The Fiends, specifically Gluttony. Formerly Byakko.
Personality:
There was a time in his life when Yoshirou was a very happy, open and loving man. He had been proud to be a Seishi, and took his duties in protecting Arinata, his Miko, very seriously. However that did not mean he was unkind. In truth, during that time of his life he had been very kind, and very quick to laugh but slow to anger.
He remained friendly and kind once his Miko returned to her wold, though perhaps he didn't laugh or smile quite so much because he had fallen in love with her, despite their age difference, and though he'd never told her, or let any of the other Seishi know, it affected him to love her so much, and yet to never see it requited. Still, he contented himself with the knowledge that she'd returned home and would have a full and happy life, even if he could not be part of it.
This changed when he learned the truth, however, and ever since then he has seemed more distant and quicker to anger. The happiness and kindness are still three, but it takes a special situation to bring them out. He will help those in need, and he is never overtly cruel to anyone, but he doesn't go out of his way to befriend others as he once might have.
He always was, and still is, fiercely loyal to those who gain his trust and will do all in his power to protect both those he cares about and the innocent...the trouble being he has found very few to care about since learning the true fate of his beloved Arinata.
He has a very complex opinion of the Miko and their Seishi. They are servants of the Four Gods, whom he has sworn to help the Fiends destroy, but he cannot bring himself to harm them without due cause. He still looks at them and sees himself, his comrades, and his Miko. They do not know the truth of the path they follow, and so he often views them as ignorant children. If he crosses paths with a Miko or one of her Seishi, he will try to tell them the truth of their situation, especially if he can tell that she loves one of them, or that one of them is in love with her, but usually no one listens to him.
He usually enjoys being in nature, especially near water, because he finds it peaceful and he is able to put everything out of his mind, including thoughts of what happened to Arinata. It is ironic, however, that he finds such peace near water because his main power is that of flame. He also finds solace in music, having learned to play a lute from a nobleman's daughter during his travels.

Yoshirou is a tall man, standing at about 6'3”, and very slim. He is quite strong, though, as he has worked hard all his life. He has long pale green hair that reaches his waist, though he usually pulls the majority of it back into a loose ponytail. His bangs hang down to his cheeks, and he mostly lets them hang loose, except for one part on his his right which is done in a long braid and held together by a white hairband. Arinata playfully braided that part of his hair and used one of her own haribands to hold it in place, and he has kept it that way ever since. At first it was out of love for her, but now it is to remind himself why he helps the Fiends, and why things will be better once they've attained their goals. His eyes are a very pale green, though they have been known to darken whenever he experiences intense emotions such as sadness or anger.
His manner of dress is typical for a traveler. He wears sturdy black boots which come half way up his shins, black trousers, and a dark green or black shirt. When the weather calls for it, he has a black cloak he also wears. He keeps his quiver of arrows on his back for quick access, and his bow over one shoulder. He also has his two long knives hidden away, one in each boot. He also wears his lute in a small carrying case at his belt, and sometimes plays as he walks from place to place.
History:
Yoshirou was born the only child of a poor family in a poor village in Sailo. His father ran an inn, which did fairly good business, but at the time there was a gang of cruel bandits who roamed the area and would mercilessly rob the people of all that they had over and over again. One day, when he was about ten years old, the bandits attacked the inn while his father was away gathering supplies. After taking their money and drinking themselves into an uproar, the men looked to Yoshirou's mother and saw a means to satisfy a need that money and liquor didn't readily fill. Seeing that his mother was in danger, but not really understanding why, his Seishi powers activated for the first time, and he was able to chase the men from his inn, badly burning their leader, but miraculously managed not to damage the inn which was his family's only means of survival., When his father returned, his mother told him all of what had happened, and together they explained to Yoshirou that he was a Seishi, and what that would someday mean for him.
He trained from that day forth to control his powers and to learn many ways to protect his Miko. The bandits never returned to their village, fearing the boy who could burn them alive, and though the town was still poor, they were able to live happy and without worry.
When he was twenty-one, a girl stumbled into the village, dressed oddly and suffering from heatstroke and severe thirst. Yoshirou happened to be the one to find her, and carried her without a second thought to his family's inn. He personally tended to her over the next few days and learned as she recovered that she was named Arinata, that she was sixteen years old, and that she came from a place called Tokyo. After talking for a wile, it became clear she was not of this world, and that she was his Miko. He did his best to explain to her what that meant, and that as her Seishi, he was to protect her at all cost.
Once she was fully recovered from her difficult time in the desert, he brought her before the town and announced that the Byakko no Miko had arrived. She was presented with many gifts including a silver pendant with a yellow tiger's eye gem, as a thank your from the poor village for the hope she represented. Yoshirou then set out with her to find their fellow Seishi and fulfill both of their duties.
During their travels, he felt himself growing closer to Arinata, and eventually fell in love with her. It was clear to him, however, that she only saw him as an older brother, and that her heart belonged to another Seishi, Kai. He decided to never make his feelings known, preferring to see her happy with someone else than to ruin the closeness they shared by making his feelings clear. Not even when Kai died while protecting her from a group of people who were convinced the Miko brought danger, not salvation, did he confess his love. He simply held her through her tears and helped her to complete their task so that Kai's death would not be in vain.
When she returned to her own world, he was heartbroken, but knew she belonged there, and knew she would be happy again someday. With his Seishi task complete, he could not settle back into his old routine after traveling the world and seeing so much excitement, and so he left his family's inn and set out to travel, doing his best to help as many people as he could. He would help protect the innocent, and rain others with blade and bow. He would often regale others with his tales of adventure as a Seishi. It was during the telling of such tales that he finally spoke his love for Arinata aloud, seeing no harm in telling the truth to these people who did not know him and would only be in his life a short time. A few times, some women were so moved by his tale of unrequited love that they offered their companionship to him, but he always politely refused, insisting that such companionship should be given with meaning, and not just because.
He continued to travel, even when he began to grow too old to train others. When he was in his early fifties, he finally found a nice village just inside Konan, and contented himself to settle down there where he ran a general supply shop by day, and told his tales to the children, and any others who may wish to hear them, by night.
One night, as he finished telling the tale of Kai's death, and told the children to head off to bed, promising to tell more the next night, he was approached by a young woman in a hooded cloak. As she walked slowly toward him, he felt drawn to her somehow, as if there was something nearly forgotten but very familiar about her. Once she stood before him, she lowered the hood. Though the face that looked up at him was not Arinata, it was similar enough to cause his heart to break all over again. She asked if they could go somewhere and talk privately, and he agreed.
Once he was alone with the woman, who called herself Taotie, and explained to him that she was, in part, his beloved Arinata. He was initially angered by her claim, but she was able to recall the details of a simple encounter between himself and his Miko...one which he had never shared in his storytelling because he had not thought others would find it interesting. Stunned into silence, he listened as she explained that all did not end will for a Miko once she made her three wishes. She explained that the Four Gods did, indeed, grant the wishes, but that they devoured the Miko as payment. She then explained that she was what remained of past Byakko no Miko, including Arinata. She said that there were other composite beings like her, one for each of the other three sets of Miko. She left him that night, promising to give him time to think over what she had said.
For a few days after, he continued to tell his stories by night, and run his shop by day, but it was as if his mind was elsewhere. He constantly mulled over what he had learned and what that meant. All this time he had consoled himself with the knowledge that Arinata had lived a full and happy life, and now, if Taotie was to be believed, he learned that she had died a sudden and tragic death...that he'd been allowed to live on and grow old, but the one he loved had been given no such choice.
Three days after her first visit, just as he finished telling the tale of the summoning, and sent the Children away for the night, Taotie returned and asked if they could speak yet again. Once alone, he told her how sorry he was he could not protect her, and how if he'd known, he would've found a way to send her back home before she summoned Byakko so she could have been safe. She told him that there was something he could do for her now. She then explained that she and the other composite beings, called the Fiends, were plotting to destroy the Four Gods, promising that the cycle of bringing innocent girls from another world only to devour them would end if The Fiends could seize the powers of the Four Gods. He agreed readily, and Taotie used some of her own powers to restore him to the age he'd been when he first met Arinata, explaining that he would not age further so long as he helped the Fiends obtain their goals. She also explained to him that, besides his power over flames, he would have a new ability to drain the life force from other living beings to restore his own energy when using his powers. She also explained to him that she would not always deal directly with him, and that the other Fiends may call on him to fulfill some tasks, or send other servants to do so, and that she may not always look the same. Unlike the other Fiends, she was not bonded with this host, and could freely move from body to body, but that he would always know when it was her.
That very night, newly restored and with a new mission in life, he closed up his shop, packed up his things and set out on his first task. He was to seek out and follow up on any rumor of an object or artifact that might help to strengthen the Fiends to aid them in their impending battle against the Four Gods. He made it clear to Taotie that he would never harm a Miko, and would only harm a Seishi if his life was threatened, and she agreed to those terms, saying that she was not personally concerned with any of the Miko.

His Seishi symbol was 'Stride' and was located directly over his heart, but since he has joined forces with the Fiends, it has disappeared, even though he can still use his Seishi abilities.
He no longer shares his tales as a Seishi so freely, partly because no one believes that someone so young in appearance could've been a Seishi so long ago, and partly because he feels a bit more bitter about them, knowing that in the end no one got to live happily ever after. He will share them sometimes however, if he is feeling especially nostalgic, though he now claims they are stories his grandfather told him as a child, as it seems more believable.
He has also realized that although he still holds a special place in his heart for Arinata, she is gone, and Taotie, whom he learned was also called Gluttony, is no replacement for her. She is all that is left of Arinata, but she is also all that is left of many other Miko, and that means she will never fully be the woman he remembers and loved.
