Katana: Fumiko's father educated her well in the art of sword-fighting and he gave her the katana she carries wherever she goes ever since she came of age and bested her tutors and even himself. The katana is not too elaborated but it had been in the family for many generations so it is priceless for her and she tied a ribbon around it since she believes the best way to win a battle is to have the courage to not wield her blade unless her life was truly at stake. This wisdom she acquired from her mother many years ago and her father encourages this even though her stepmother believes it would be best to exploit her talent and force her to becoming a samurai or a bodyguard for hire but she mainly would do this to get rid of her. She carries her katana on a sheath on her back since she feels more comfortable carrying it there and is easier to draw from behind.

Capoeira: A martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics and music. It was influenced by N'golo, or zebra dance (a kind of dance in which the participant uses their feet to kick the head of their opponent similar to how a zebra moves, hence the name) with native Brazilian influences or Maraná war fight (a kind of fight that they use all their bodies to attack the enemy). It is known by quick and complex moves, using mainly power, speed, and leverage for a wide variety of kicks, spins, and highly mobile techniques; at heart is the ginga, the back-and-forth, foot-to-foot movement that serves as the starting point for such leverage. Capoeira used in genuine self-defense situations incorporates many sweeps and low moves. Fumiko learned this when she travelled to some islands in order to make maps and accounts on the nearby lands past Kutou. She learned this martial art and she practices this often whenever she has time for herself.

Personality:

Kind and gentle: Fumiko has her mother's good heart and she easily feels compassion for others and this is something that truly worries her father since he is very protective of her. She is his beloved treasure and if anything happened to her he would suffer greatly. That is why he at times wishes she were not so kind and concerned for others. Because one day he fears someone might take advantage of her and use her good heart against her in order to do her great harm. That was also one of the reasons he encouraged wisdom and maturity alongside the learning of martial arts and weapon-mastery. However, Fumiko would never use those skills to harm others but rather for self defence and sometimes ties a ribbon around her katana as a sign of peace and even if she did not draw her blade she could still fight with the sheathed katana or with the martial art of capoeira that allows her to fight with or without her katana.

Proud and stubborn: Despite her gentle nature and compassionate heart, Fumiko is also a rather proud and stubborn person when she needs to be. On the one hand, she is happy of her lineage and holds great pride and fondness for Hokkan and Kutou. On the other hand, it is also a mechanism of self defence whenever Fumiko finds herself in an uncomfortable position or in company she would not willingly seek. This pride and stubbornness can rise her temper and when angered she does not care what anyone can say or threaten her with, she will speak her mind. She is the kind of person who does not get easily challenged or threatened and hides away. She is rather brave and seldom fears anything. The only way to truly get to her would be using one of her loved ones against her or to get to her.

Love for animals: Fumiko has a great fondness of animals especially dogs and horses and ever since her father got her a beautiful black Azteca horse, she never leaves the palace without him. She called him Aoi and he is one of her best friends. She truly enjoys being outdoors and often indulges in walking in the gardens and takes up any opportunity to travel and since she makes maps and is a royal advisor she at times is sent as an ambassador to other lands.

Appearance:



Fumiko has deep honey-brown eyes and long chestnut hair in between light brown and an even darker shade of brown. She stands a medium height of 5'7 and her body is fit because of her martial arts and sword-fighting training and also due to her enjoyment in horseback riding. She usually wears the typical dress of a noble of Kutou and the robes or colours of a royal advisor. Her riding attire is slightly different for comfort whenever she simply travels or goes for a ride using boots instead of sandals.


History:

Fumiko was born in Hokkan on a beautiful spring morning which in part influenced the name she was given. Fumiko loved her family very much but when she was four her mother, Okimi Izumi, died. Her father, Wataru Izumi, being originally from Kutou in his grief decided to go back and offer his services to the Empire once more. Being a noble he easily got the position he aspired to. And this helped Fumiko in years to come to earn the position of royal advisor since she experienced first hand the world of politics. When she was six her father remarried partly due to the loneliness he felt ever since his first wife died and partly to give Fumiko a mother to look after her but it was obvious how much the woman loathed the little girl, especially when she discovered she could not have children of her own. Ever since she did everything at hand to make Fumiko’s life miserable and get rid of her.

Due to her father's love for his child and his protective nature he never acceded to any of her demands. But the young girl never lost her temper with her step mother and instead treated her with love and cordiality hoping that one day she would realise that she could be part of their family if she ever wished to. But this never happened and in a way, this began to trigger her stubbornness and pride and since she became a royal advisor she would spend little time in the company of her stepmother visiting mainly her father or her friend the Emperor and his sister and mother.

All those years, the one person who became her best friend and confident was the Emperor Shun and both confide in each other their greatest fees or challenges and always look out for each other. She is also fond of his sisters and mother and she still visits Hokkan a lot to run errands for the Emperor of Kutou and this allows her to see the royal family of that kingdom which she also holds dear. She often considers herself lucky for the astounding friends she has. It was when she entered the service of the Kutou Empire that she dedicated strongly on astronomy and cartography. In doing so she discovered she truly enjoyed improving her knowledge on such subjects and she began to make contributions of her own. She then also discovered her skills with wood and jewellery, she realised she was good at crafts and she constantly learns new things, especially in her journeys.

Anything Else: Fumiko has a scar on her right shoulder down to her back, she usually hides it with her long dark hair. No one knows for sure who did this when the girl was twelve, though in reality it had been her stepmother but the blade was never found nor traces of the author of the crime that night Fumiko was attached.
