Name: Kyouaku
Gender: Male
Age: 150, appears early 20's.
Occupation: Demon Lord and Dark Magician
Birthplace: In his palace on a remote island.
Abilities:
Dark Magic: Being a very powerful demon lord, he has access to very strong, very dark magic. This magic gives him the ability to do nearly anything, but all magic comes with a price. It has many forms including incantations and potions and rituals, but some he is able to do on a whim without having to do a ritual or incantation.
Broker: Those who are aware of dark magic, but are unable to do the arts themselves often call upon Kyouaku to do magic for them, to help them gain their desires. He charges for these services, though not always in money. He brokers deals with anyone who calls upon him, and has never broken a deal. He does not wish for those who call upon his services to see his face, so he always wears a mask when dealing with them.
Weapons: He has trained with, and is skilled with, many varied weapons, but he usually just relies on his magic to defend himself, though most are too scared of him to ever dare attack him.
Affiliation: Himself.
Personality:
Kyouaku was raised to be the Demon Lord of the castle, so he has a very 'royal' outlook on things. He is interested in things, and people, only so far as they can benefit him. The only reason he began to broker deals with humans was because he found he grew bored on his Island, and he wanted something to pass the time. He was raised that kindness was a weakness, as so to show such a thing to others was to expose yourself to defeat. As such, he has never really been shown kindness, and does not quite understand it. He is a very honest man, however, which seems a bit at odds with his dark persona. He will never lie, though he has no problem misleading others if it suits him. He has, over the years, gained the respect of those of his servants who share a darker nature, and ensures the loyalty of the rest by intimidation and fear. He usually speaks in a calm, quitet voice, and has never been known to yell. The best way to tell he is angered is to notice when his quiet voice grows even quieter. He is a bit self-centered, and grows bored easily, which has caused him over the years to take up and then quickly abandon many hobbies. He has a fondness for music, but due to events from his early adulthood, he has forbidden that it ever be played on his island. He is quick to anger when he feels personally attacked, and being a bit vain, he takes any insult to his appearance personally. He is also a very private person, hence the reason he wars the mask. He does not like to talk about himself or his affairs, and will get annoyed quickly when he is pressed to do so.
Appearance:
Normal 'Human' Appearance.
Human Form with Mask.
In his human form, which is the one he uses most often as it is the easiest to maintain, Kyouaku is tall, about 6'6", with a thin but well toned frrame. He has black hair which reaches his mid back. He usually wears it loose, letting it fall to cover half of his face. His eyes in this form are scarlet and seem to burn with an inner fire when he does small acts of magic. He typically dresses simply, but in finely made clothing, all black. He wears simple boots, trousers and shirt. When he is brokering a deal, he adds a hooded cloak and black leather gloves to the outfit, as well as a dark orange mask that covers his entire face, except for one eye.
Demon Form.
In his demon form, which is the form he must take on when he does larger acts of magic, as it allows him access to his full abilities, he has the same height and build, but his hair turns as white as snow and grows out past his waist, and his eyes turn a very light, icy blue. His fingernails also grow into longer, dark claws that are very sharp.
History:
Kyouaku's father was the demon lord before him, and he took a human wife. Their only child was Kyouaku. Unknown to the child as he grew up, when a demon of their takes a human wife who bears him a child, the demon child must absorb the lifeforce of it's human mother to survive. He was told all his childhood simply that his mother had died in childbirth, and not the circumstances surrounding it. As he grew, his father molded him to become, in his mind, a suitable successor. Had he been allowed to grow as he wished, he would've most likely taken after his mother and been a kindhearted, gentle man. He was forced to become cold and distanct to survive however. When he was a young man, only about 25-years-old, He reached his full maturity, and stopped aging. It was also when his father began to bring human girls to the island so he could pick his wife. He fell in love instantly with one of the ladies, a young peasant girl named Hinata. She was kind and gentle, and loved music, especially playing the Koto. He loved her dearly, and they were soon married and expecting their first child.
It was then that he learned the horrible truth of their species. Hinata fell ill during the childbirth, and grew weaker and weaker. Kyouaku asked his father for an explanation, or to help somehow, and he was then told that he could decide to let his wife live, or his child, but that both could not. It was a painful choice, but he wanted Hinata to live, so he stopped the child from absorbing her lifeforce. His father had neglected to tell him that his human wife was too frail to survive either way, and so she passed on the same night as her child. He ordered that a statue of Hinata holding the child would be placed in a secret garden, and would mark the burial place of mother and child. He filled the garden with lovely flowers, and forbid anyone but himself to go there, upon pain of death.
He realized his mother must have died so that he could live, and that his father had known this would happen when he brought human girls to the castle for him to chose a bride. He looked through all of his magical tomes, and found a ritual that would strip his father of all his demonic protections. He then killed his father in revenge for the loss of his mother and Hinata. He also moved all of her things into the room she'd stayed in when she had first come to the castle, and he instructed that no one was ever to enter that troom, or to touch the things there. He placed a spell over the room to make sure the items within would never deteriorate.
A change overcame him after the loss of his wife. What little joy and kindness she had inspired in him was gone, replaced with a cold distance. He refused to let anyone close to him, turning to a maid named Kurai when he had physical needs. He began to broker deals then, and took his magic to a deeper, darker level. He began to bring mortal women to the castle once more, but only in order to use them as elements in his spells and rituals. There were many dark spells that required the heart of a pure, innocent mortal woman, so he began to keep one in the castle at all times. Once he stole their hearts for his spells, he would turn them to stone and add them to a hall of statues in his castle.
And so he has lived for the last 125 years. He has become colder as time has passed, and has not alloweed anyone to get close to him, not wanting to lose someone else he cares for. He figures it is easier not to care for someone than to care for them and lose them again. As his magical skills developed, he has mastered many spells, including one that lets him know when a mortal woman with a pure heart is nearby, and another which lets him literally turn into shadows and travel or hide in such a way.
Important NPCs:
Kurai: A succubus who serves under Kyouaku as his head maid and personal servant. She lusts after his looks and his power, and longs for the power she would recieve as his mate. The two of them have had a love affair off and on over the years, but he has always made it clear she would never be anything more than a a servant to him.
Servants: Besides Kurai, he has a variety of other servants, mostly fellow demons, but also a few humans. All are loyal to him, either out of respect or out of fear.
