Name: Taiyo Meisai
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Occupation: Imperial Guard
Birthplace: Kutou
Abilities:
Tracking: Taiyo is skilled at tracking, a trait he learned when hunting with his father, and it has come in handy since becoming an Imperial Guard.
Swordplay: Taiyo trained from a young age to handle a sword, and is quite skilled at it. He has honed his skills, first in training with his father, and later in sparring with Tsuki. Now he is known to practice whenever he has the time, and is always up for a friendly challenge.
Hand-to-Hand: Besides his skills with the blade, he has developed a good ability at hand-to-hand combat. He can hold his own against many larger or seemingly stronger opponents.
Weapons: Taiyo has the standard sword, common to all Imperial Guards, but he also has a dagger he keeps in his boot. It's part of a matching set given to him and his sister before they joined the Imperial Guard.
Affiliation: His family, Kutou Royal Family
Personality: Taiyo is quieter and more serious than his sister, Tsuki, almost to the point of seeming aloof. He takes his job seriously, and approaches everything in life as if it should be taken this way. He is not cold or unfriendly, per say, but it is widely known that his twin is the person he is closest to, and many of the other guards gave up on trying to get him to 'loosen up' some time ago. This is because he blames himself for Tsuki being attacked, and he doesn't want to let his guard slip again, lest someone else gets hurt. He has been focused, until joining the guard, on keeping Tsuki safe, and since joining the guard, on keeping the royal family-particularly the princesses-safe. Because of that, he's not quite as comfortable in social situations as Tsuki is, and honestly doesn't know much about picking up on social cues, or how to react in some situations. This is something Tsuki often teases him about.
He is, despite all of this, a kind, compassionate, loyal man. Once his trust is earned, it takes what he sees as an act of betrayal against himself, his family, or those close to him to lose it. His one, nearly irrational, bias is toward demons. After Tsuki's attack, he has vowed a hatred of all demons, and anyone associating with them, especially Yu. Should he learn someone is a demon, or associates with one, he instantly distrusts them.
Appearance: Link.
Taiyo has long dark blue hair which he usually keeps tied loosely back, and clear blue eyes. He is tall, standing at 6', and is muscular without being bulky. He is strong, as would be expected, and lean. He dresses in the usual uniform when on duty, and in nondescript clothing during his free time. He doesn't try to draw attention to himself, as some do, with his manner of dress. He's heard whispers that he's handsome from the ladies around the palace, but he either doesn't get what they see, or doesn't care. He's unaffected by the admiration.
History:
Taiyo was born the oldest of twins, several hours before his sister Tsuki. He grew up a happy child and was close to his sister, though not inseparable. From a young age, he and many other boys from the village trained under his father to learn swordplay and martial arts. He excelled at it, and quickly showed promise in taking it up in some fashion as a profession. By the time he was eight, his father was taking him hunting to help provide for the family.
When he was thirteen, he was about to go hunting with his father when Tsuki and her friend Risa invited him to go swimming instead. He refused, telling them he had 'more important' things to do. That evening, when he and his father returned from hunting, they learned the girls still had not returned. They figured the girls had lost track of time and set out to retrieve them. Taiyo, knowing the way better than his father to the seldom-used lake, drew ahead of him a bit, and the sight that met his eyes was truly something out of a nightmare. Both girls were tied up, and Tsuki was injured, her clothing ripped and her body exposed. A man was standing over her, and Taiyo could guess what had happened, although he had no experience in the matter himself. He yelled for his father, apparently startling the man and causing him to flee. Their father untied both girls and wrapped Tsuki in his cloak, carrying her home. Once there, Risa told them everything, clinging to Taiyo with tears in her eyes as their mother did her best to tend to Tsuki's injuries and try to help her rest.
From that day forth, Taiyo blamed himself for what happened to his sister. He felt if he had gone swimming with them that day, then the man, Yu, probably wouldn't have attacked them...or at least he would have been there to defend the girls. He worried for Tsuki during her 'quiet' period, and barely left the spot outside her room, ignoring all else including his own health and well-being, and his training. When she did finally speak to him, it was late one night. She asked him for a set of his old clothing, which he gave to her without question. The next morning, she emerged from her room wearing the clothing he'd brought her, and acting as if nothing had happened. There was a change in his sister, however. She no longer enjoyed her old activities, and now wished to learn the same skills Taiyo had been mastering for years. Her family agreed, and she was, from that day forth, trained alongside the boys of the village.
As time passed, the twins grew closer than ever before, and Taiyo vowed that he would make sure Tsuki was never the victim of such violence again. When they turned eighteen, he announced that he wanted to move to the capital and become an Imperial Guard. Tsuki announced that, if her brother was going, then so was she, though she was upset when he told her that even if both were accepted, chances were that they would be assigned different tasks because one was male and the other female. The day they were set to leave, Tsuki emerged and surprised her family yet again, having done all she could to make herself look like a man. The entire trip to the capital, Taiyo helped her practice her false voice, and how to carry herself to pull the illusion off.
After two hard years of training, the pair were allowed to join the Imperial Guard, and were almost instantly assigned to guard the princesses, who liked the fact that they were twins as well. The Emperor watched them closely, and eventually trusted them with other tasks, though he nearly always allowed them to work together. As more time passed, and Risa would visit, it was hard to hide that the three of them were close, and so it was decided that she would pretend to be Tsuki's betrothed to help further hide Tsuki's identity. He also noticed that Tsuki befriended the Emperor's personal guard, Yukiina, and though he was wary at first, he soon accepted that, for whatever reason, Tsuki trusted this newcomer with her secret. He decided he would support this friendship, and eventually gained a strong respect for Yukiina and the way she handled her duties.
Important NPCs:
Parents: A dojo master and a seamstress, both their parents are kind, loving, and supportive. Though perhaps sometimes a bit misguided, they want only the best for their children, and all the happiness in the world.
Risa: His sister's best friend. He had a little bit of a crush on her when they were quite young, but he now sees her as a second sister. He is oblivious to the feelings she has for him.
Noa: Spoiled member of court that lusts after him. She always tries to get him assigned to guard her when she's visiting, and does whatever it takes to get and keep his attention. She does not love him, but she wants him, and it annoys her to no end that she has, thus far, not gotten what she wants.
Yu: Demon that attacked Tsuki. Taiyo has sworn to hate all demons since then, and is mistrustful of anyone connected to demons or Yu.
