Aoi is a skinny but tall guy with short tousled black hair that reaches his ears and gray eyes. He stands for 6'00", and he usually wears a white shirt with a black pants and an black and white overcoat. He also wears a purple belt, when he wears this clothing. And when he is in a cold area, he usually wears a long shawl alongside those clothings.

Personality:

When it comes to personality, there is one word that can describe him: selfish. Hotaru is a caring person. But, he have selfish streaks. And those selfish streaks of him usually comes from time to time. While he can become curious about something or someone, he can be cautious enough to not let that person know too much about him unless it is necessary. Although he usually opens up to that person after a while. He may also do something that he knows is dangerous when he becomes curious about something, including going into a dangerous cave just because he wants to know whether the inside is the same with the ones in the real world or not. But, he will not allow other people to do the same thing. And for someone who will give little to none information about himself, Hotaru is also eager to know many things. And he is the type who will not be afraid to ask people about those things.

When it comes to Hotaru's likes and dislikes, there are two things that Hotaru likes. The first thing Hotaru likes is food. Especially sweets. Infact, he has the habit of visiting stalls that sell sweets before visiting other stalls when he goes outside and attends festivals. And it has become his goal to try all the sweets inside the Universe of the Four Gods. Another thing that Hotaru likes are books. He was wondering what kind books await him in The Universe of The Four Gods. And he has a goal to read all the books that exist in The Universe of The Four Gods.

As for the things that he dislikes, there are two things that are on his hate list. Snakes and scorpions. He hates those animals a lot. And he hopes that he will never find them anywhere in the world inside The Universe of The Four Gods. Especially in his farm and his room. He also did not like ghosts, and he hopes that he will never encounter one of them in the world inside the Universe of the Four Gods. Although he also did not mind befriending a celestial warrior who is not human or has become a ghost. For him, they are still his friend as long as they are a celestial warrior. Especially if they are celestial warriors of Byakko.

One thing that Hotaru did not mind sharing with other people is his love for food and books. In fact, he is the type of person who will be happy if he can find someone who has the same taste as him or someone who likes foods or books in general.

History:

Hotaru was born around nineteen years ago in the Mihaya family in Aizuwakamatsu, Japan. He was born with the name Mihaya Aoi as his real name. He is the youngest child of the family. And he has seven older sisters. From the eldest to the seventh sister, their names are: Ichigo, Nichika, Miku, Suzuka, Satsuki, Riku, and Nanami. And all of the seven of them are the readers of the book.

Hotaru is a university student, and he studied in the local university in Japan. He is in the Art department, and he will be a second year university student this April. And he belongs to the manga and literature club of that university. And although he is born in Aizuwakamatsu, Hotaru lives in Kyoto by the time he enters the world inside the book. It is because he moved there one year ago. Because he got accepted into the university that currently became his place of study. Hotaru is a graduate of a local public high school in Aizuwakamatsu. It is a co-educational school, and Hotaru belonged to the Archery club when he was a student of that school. And he was the captain of the club.

Hotaru's parents are historians. And they are one of the reasons of why knows Byakko even though he has not come to the world inside the book. Because Hotaru has been taught Japanese history since he was a child by the two of them. Including the one that is about Byakkotai, a group of young boys of the Aizu domain who fights in a war known as Boshin War. And they tell him that the group is named after Byakko, the Beast God who protect Sairou. Although there is no mention of Sairou when they tell him about Byakko. Another reason is because he has read articles about a shrine called Matsunoo taisha on the internet. And they are saying that Byakko makes that shrine and the whole Nishiyama mountain range in Kyoto His home. As for why he did that research, Hotaru did it because he was planning to stay in Kyoto for the spring break and invited his sisters to Kyoto instead of him visiting them in their home in Aizuwakamatsu. And he was planning to bring himself and his sisters to visit Matsunoo taisha and the other famous places in Kyoto.

Hotaru has just arrived in the world inside The Universe of The Four Gods. He was in his room when it happened and he was having his sisters visit him in Kyoto. Then, his fourth older sister Suzuka gave him a book. It is the The Universe of The Four Gods. She got that book when she and Hotaru's other sisters were in the station and waiting for the train that will bring her and Hotaru's other older sisters to Kyoto to come. She feels curious about the book. But, she is also afraid. She feels like someone has asked her to buy it and bring it home but also warn her to not open the book. Even after she went home. So, she just bought it and brought it to Hotaru's home without opening a single page. As for why she gave the book to Hotaru, it was because she did not know what she wanted to do with the book. As for Hotaru himself, Hotaru is cautious with the The Universe of The Four Gods when his sister gives it to him. But, Hotaru still takes the book from his sister when she gives it to him. Because, at the same time, he is also curious about the book. Then, Hotaru opens the Universe of the Four Gods not long after that. And he is summoned to the world inside the book after he reads the first page of the book. And he was summoned into the Universe of the Four Gods as a celestial warrior of Byakko. However, he has not realized his power as a celestial warrior because he was born in the real world.
