appearance: Tamiko stands at an average height of 5’7'' for a woman. She has long light chestnut hair that falls behind her shoulders all the way past her waist and she has a tres that falls gently on each side past the front of her shoulders, she has a side fringe and some hair that follows the controls of her face. She has light scarlet eyes and her ears and tail are always visible as she is proud of belonging to the tanuki clan of forest spirits. She is fit but her figure is slender as a messenger she gets to travel often on foot or horseback depending on the distance, sometimes she will even travel in her tanuki form. She usually wears a lovely black dress with pink in the middle and white edges, it is usually above her knees to make movement easier in battle and she wears golden and brown boots that reach above her knees. When in battle she wears a small golden chest place and shoulder pads as well as gloves and wrist guards.

Shapeshifting: Tamiko is a shapeshifter, like most tanukis she can transform into anything from humans and animals to plants and objects. Tamaki once told her daughter that she had to turn into a teapot once to avoid a thug, however, it was not nice when she was used to pour some green tea and then she was let with the other dirty dishes, and that had made Tamiko laugh thinking of her mother among the cluttering of dishes that needed to be washed. She trained all her skills to master them, and as tricksters this is one of their trademark abilities and it also does not cost much energy, however, they need a lot of concentration to carry it out so Tamiko has been teaching herself to perfect this skill.

Earth - Elemental : She can manipulate the earth in order to create mud dolls, these dolls offer a distraction in the event of her coming across a foe or someone who might want to harm her, as she can use illusion magic to animate the mud dolls and make them look like anything, even herself, in order to lure the enemy away. She can also manipulate the earth in order to create mud and force someone to slip or even extend her power to a bigger area to cause the target to sink and struggle to get out. The greater the area the more energy it takes and the more concentration, thus, if in a battle with several enemies if unable to face them into the muddy area she has to ensure to use her other skills instead. So she would rather not create a pool of mud or else she would be forced to lower her guard.

Geo-Telekinesis: This ability is linked to her earth elemental magic. She can manipulate matter using earth or earthen substances. She can move and control objects (or to generate and apply physical force on a target, or potentially, an area) from a distance and/or without physical contact. Sometimes the ability can respond to her thoughts and ideas, imagination or desires, making it far easier to activate but potentially more challenging to control, especially during moments of stress.

Illusion: Tamiko can manipulate her targets by having them look into her eyes, that transports them into a reality created by Tamiko and the spins the illusion, weaving it to suit her needs. She can make an enemy walk away and manipulate the mind until they are far enough not to pose a threat anymore to Tamiko, she has known of some members of the clan that had killed enemies by manipulating them to jump overboard on a ship or into the flames. She likes to avoid such ruthlessness and use her cunning when creating the illusions so that she is left alone but if she needed to she could create stronger and deadlines illusions.


abilities: Tamiko has mastered the kokyu due to many years of practising what her mother taught her and whenever she has a chance she plays or teaches for some coin. It is an instrument easy to carry so it does not prevent her from moving around freely. She is also an excellent cook due to the many years she spent with her mother learning everything she had to teach her and she enjoys a good meal as well. Due to how her clan strives for survival she is also a good hunter and comes up with good ways to lure the prey and catch it. She also mastered the use of a katana and her tanuki skills.
weapons: She mainly fights with her tanuki abilities and her katana, which was a memento of her deceased father. Due to the fact that her spirit species was more inclined to escape danger and use cunning and tricks, she does not often engage in battle, but if the cause is just and she needs to she is very skilled and does not hesitate to use her skills.
strengths: Tamiko’s strengths are her magic abilities, fighting skills. But more than anything, her cunning and survival drive are what help her overcome most things. She honed these after the loss of her beloved father in an attempt to protect her mother and her clan.
weaknesses: Even though she seems pretty laid back and carefree, she cares deeply for her loved ones and her clan and she would do anything to keep them from harm. If a bad person finds out this can be easily used to manipulate her into doing things she normally would not do. She also has to be careful when using her magic skills because all of them use energy and the greater the skill the more energy and concentration it requires, which means that while casting one of her abilities, if she is using a lot of her energy and concentrating on it she is exposed to attacks to her persona. Also, she needs to concentrate when making use of her geo-telekinesis abilities because it is such a complex skill she has to ensure she does not lose control of that skill or things could go awry.
personality: Tamiko is quite a cunning woman as she is taught in her clan that the best way to escape most situations is to outwit your opponent. Due to her tanuki nature rather than fight she prepares to be sneaky, win over the opponent in a battle of cunning tactics and boast about it among the clan. Tanuki are not presumptuous but they do enjoy a good challenge and as someone who travels more than most people in the clan, Tamiko always has quite the story to tell. Furthermore, as she likes shiny objects she often narrates stories of how she outsmarts guards or a rich merchant in order to steal from them and have them look for the shiny objects. She very rarely keeps any of the stuff she misplaces and that is because she is quite the wandering spirit and believes that the fewer positions you have the better. Furthermore, she was constantly travelling so she did not get to spend enough time in the village to consider the intricacies of owning stuff.
The first aspect of her personality is connected to the second, as due to her tanuki nature she is quite the trickster and she is also a playful person. She enjoys stealing shining objects and hiding them to force the owners to look for them. It's like a game of wit and tracking to her and she does not feel any shame in admitting it is one of her weaknesses. Of course she has not met that many people outside of her clan so it would be interesting to see what would happen if someone found out about this weakness. She was always taught in her clan that outsmarting others was the key to survival and, thus far, her clan has remained hidden and unnoticed and so, she decided it must be true if they had not had any issues like other forest spirits have. She also enjoys music in all forms, whether it is sung, created with instruments or dancing. She enjoys playing the kokyu and whenever possible she would join the festivities in her village and play her instrument joining any other musicians so that people could dance to the melody of her stringed instrument.
Although the tanuki have a strong sense of self-preservation, Tamiko is quite selfless and does everything possible to protect her loved ones and if she cannot do something at that very moment she will come up with a strategy for that same purpose. Also, she would not think twice about sacrificing herself for the good of her clan or loved ones. Partly, she thinks she can get out of most situations on her own with a good plan in mind and if not, she can use her abilities to escape. She is not too keen on confrontation as her clan prefers escape over conflict. However, if she has to fight she will gladly oblige so long as the objective was honourable enough, like protecting loved ones or preventing something terrible from happening.

history: Tamiko was born in a forest in Sailo and grew up as a member of the tanuki clan. Her father was an avid hunter and her mother a great musician and singer. She had a happy childhood until she reached the age of thirteen when Tamiko and her parents travelled back to their village they were ambushed by bandits. Her father fought them off commanding her and her mother to escape. She felt a pang of guilt for she did not know how to protect herself and she was broken hearted to leave him to fight on his own. To hide the fact that they were forest spirits her father looked fully human as he fought the bandits. Unfortunately as he finished off the last bandit, he was wounded, and he had information that a corrupt General of Sailo need, thus the cowardly General killed Kuno in order to steal the information on the whereabouts of a legendary weapon… one of the black swords of the gods.

Tamiko and Tamaki greatly mourned the loss of her father and she promised herself that this would not happen again. From that moment on she enlisted to learn martial arts and weapon mastery in the village and she became an avid sword wielder. She soon became one of the best guards in the village and that earned her an honourable reputation. Tamaki was a bit weary of her daughter developing such skills but, as there was no longer a man in the house she accepted the fact that it was better her daughter learned to protect herself rather than become an easy target of wicked men. During that time, however, her mother also instructed her in the more tender part of herself. She taught her the art of proficiency with the kokyu and whenever possible she played on the streets to earn some coins. As the years passed on and that was not enough, she helped her mother run a teaching school for kokyu and sword-wielding. During this time she gave it importance to also perfect the art of using her tanuki abilities.

But this was not enough for her, she wanted to ensure her village would not be endangered again, she wanted to be prepared in case anything happened and she had to admit she was greatly curious about the outside world. Even though she was a bit afraid of leaving her village and doing a bit of travelling, she decided that it would greatly benefit the village and herself. And so, she decided to become a messenger and also occasionally deliver small packages. This way she got to travel, interact with others and be up to date with the latest news of the land. It also granted her the chance to test her skills against the strongest warriors of the places she travelled to. This helped her keep improving her fighting skills and also ensured she had a logical mind where she could read the opponent’s moves, analyse weaknesses and come up with the best tactics to defeat them taking the differences in strength, stamina, etc.

Up to this day she continues with her messenger and delivery jobs and occasionally stays for a few days in some places in order to play the kokyu and in case her mother might need her to run an errand or something. This also made her an avid thinker and a very cunning woman. Due to her tanuki nature she can’t help herself and steal stuff from time to time, as she enjoys tricking others and seeing how they react, sometimes she just hides things to give them a hard time but eventually people find whatever is missing. On occasion she had kept a thing or two because she likes shiny things, one of them was a lovely little pendant of a crystal that shone with the prismatic colours when in touch with the sunlight. Unfortunately, a good reputation also meant she slowly became known and Akhram had not had his fill of the tanuki yet. He knew of their skills to trick others and steal and once he found out where the sword was, he set this plan into motion.

One cold morning, while Tamiko was away on business and due to return in a fortnight, Akhram paid some thugs to find and kidnap Tamiko’s mother. He then sent a letter for Tamiko to meet him by the caves near the town where she was doing her business or else she would not see her beloved mother again. He tied her mother’s hairpin to the note and the young woman received the note. She was greatly angered, for she knew this man was bad business and he would certainly ask her to do something terrible. She sighed and trailed to the meeting place without a second thought, she did not want to lose her mother at the hands of this criminal. Upon her arrival she was relieved to see her mother unharmed and well, she then found herself cornered into agreeing to do something for Akhram in exchange for her mother’s release and for her to be escorted safely back to her village upon oath to never again approach the tanuki.

She had to steal something of great value, considered sacred men among the first spirits and it broke her heart. But to save her mother and her people… she agreed to do it.
