appearance: Daisuke is tall, about 6'4", and has a lean, muscular build. He has short, spiky black hair that frames his face, including things that drop down between his eyes, and comes down to about his neck. He has dark green eyes, and pale skin. He typically dresses warm and practical, although it is not quite as cold and his village as it is once you get further into the nation of Hokkan. When on guard duty, he wears clothing and armor and his family colors - blue, black, and silver - including a chest plate that has a silver crescent Moon design. When off duty, he dresses mostly in black and green, with the occasional white. He carries a katana that was given to him by his father, and he wears a silver crescent Moon charm with a dangling bit of crystal on a leather cord, though he typically keeps it tucked inside his shirt.

EVERYTHING'S INSIDE
powers: Magic has run in Daisuke’s family for many, many generations. Some say it is because they are the human descendants of the Moon Goddess, Yue, while others say that it is because she was simply so impressed by the family’s devotion to her that she granted magic to all the descendants who were worthy to possess it. Either way, for as far back as anyone can remember, the women of Daisuke’s family have been gifted with various magical abilities. Just the women. Until now. Although he has not discovered his magical talents yet - being something of a late bloomer - Daisuke is a skilled word mage.
Verbal spellcasting: Words have power, especially for Daisuke. He can speak a word or phrase, and if the will is there, he can cast a spell or charm. This power will be quite strong…if he can ever learn to control it.
Warding: Daisuke can write or draw any symbol on practically any surface, and infuse it with power in order to create any number of wards. From keeping magic inside or outside of a warded area to concealing people or things from detection.The more permanent the marking, the stronger it is and the longer it lasts.
Truth Speech: Once his powers have been unlocked, he cannot speak anything but the truth. If he tries to tell an outright lie, it will not come out, and he will choke off as if he cannot speak at all until he tries to speak the truth once more. This ability has a bit of a gray area, as if it is something that could be true, it will become true, and if he doesn't know it is a lie, he can still speak it. This power also does not take effect if he is reading something written by someone else. An example of something he says being made true would be if he tells a guard. “You didn’t see us here.” The guard will not remember seeing them and will go about his business. This will not work if a person’s will is too strong, or if they are too cunning.
Copy Summoning: If Daisuke writes a word and clearly envisions the item, he is able to use magic to turn the paper he wrote on into a copy of that object. It will not summon the original, and the copy is only as good and detailed as the one he imagined. The copy will be made out of the proper materials,but will not be permanent. If the object gets wet, or is set on fire, the illusion is broken and the paper is destroyed.
abilities: Daisuke has many skills that are not typically appreciated within his village. HE is a master swordsman, having trained from early childhood, and he has some skill at martial arts. In addition, he is a really talented cook, specializing in desserts and sweets, though he can cook many other types of dishes well. He's also a talented poet although he’s embarrassed by this skill and usually doesn’t let anyone read his poetry. He can sing well, but again, he doesn’t often do this in front of others.
weapons: Daisuke has a katana that his father gave him when he became the night guard at the moon temple shrine. Later, he will become the Keeper of one of the Dark Blades of Hokkan.
strengths: In addition to his strong magic (once it is unlocked) and his gift with written words, he is very loyal. He’s perhaps one of the few still left in his village who is actually still strongly devoted to Yue, the Moon Goddess.he’s also intelligent, and a quick learner.
weaknesses: He has absolutely no control over his powers in the beginning, and thus he cannot use them to their full extent. His family has also created a weakness in that he has little to no confidence in his ability to do much of importance. He has been told that he was basically useless for so long that he believes it. His loyalty can also be a weakness as he cannot seem to break the loyalty to his family, even though they treat him so poorly.
personality:On the surface, Daisuke appears to be a slacker. He does what his family expects him to, but he never tries to excel or draw attention to himself. He also has become quite used to his contributions being unappreciated. He bakes delicious things for his family, and they are gobbled up without a single word of thanks. He’s realized that, at least to his family, he’s just another useless man, so why try to set himself out amongst the crowd?
But that outward apathy hides a clever, quick mind. Not only is he smart, but he is also a quick study. He’s caring and compassionate - as evidenced in his beautiful poetry - and he is the sort to try and make friends first. He does have a temper, especially when he thinks he’s being treated more unfairly than usual and he can be grumpy, though it is not in his nature to be outright mean. He - like his mother - is very devoted to Yue, the Moon Goddess, and he often talks to the moon at night, especially when he needs guidance. He will go out of his way to help others, especially if they are in need or in danger, and he will sacrifice his own safety without a thought if he needs to save an innocent person.

important.NPCs:
Yue: The Moon Goddess. She blessed his family many years ago, and he is still very devoted. HE talks to the moon at night, praying for advice.
Yume: Daisuke’s mother. She had very strong magic, and sensed that her son had inherited it from her the moment he was born. Fearing that her family would not accept a male with strong magical abilities, she sealed his powers into the crystal of her necklace and gave it to him to keep.. She planned to unseal them and train him to use them once she could leave the village with him, but she died in childbirth with his little sister, who was stillborn.
Yuna: Saisuke’s grandmother. She is the head of the family and is in charge of all matters related to both the family and the shrine within the village. Even to those in the village who are not her relatives, her word is law. She loved her daughter, Yume, ery much and resents that she and her daughter died while the “useless” son, Daisuke, lives.
Akiza: A girl in Daisuke’s village. She grew up very close friends with one of his cousins, and so she was always around the family. As a result, she treats him basically the same way the women in his family do. She often tells him that the most useful thing he could do for his family would be to marry a worthy woman - her - and help produce some sweet little daughters to carry on Yue’s legacy. His family approves of the match, but he has resolutely refused to court or marry her.

history:
Diasuke was born in a small village in Hokkan, less than a day’s journey from the Sailo border. His mother was one of the women born into a strong family of magic users, and his father was just a bot from the village that she fell in love with and married. She didn’t share her family’s views that men were inferior to women because they didn’t have magic, and thought that each person was wonderful in their own right. When Daisuke was born, she sensed great, powerful magic within gin. Fearing that his difficult life would be made even more difficult if her family knew he had magic, she sealed it away within her necklace. She began to make secret plans with her husband to move away from the village with their young son so she could train him to use his magic, but she became pregnant when Daisuke was five with their second child. The pregnancy was difficult, and she and the baby both died in childbirth. From that young age, Daisuke lost the only supportive female figure in his life, and was left with only her necklace as a keepsake. He never removes this necklace.
As he grew up, he quickly adapted to his life, and accepted that he was a second class citizen within this village.He remained dutiful, however, and never complained about unfair treatment. When he was sixteen, he was assigned as the night guard at the Moon Shrine, and his father gave him a katana that had come down, father to son, for generations. He quickly learned his primary task was to guard the Dark Blade until it's true Keeper appeared. Every girl in his family line was tested on her sixteenth birthday - the belief being that it would only be one of the girls with magical ability who could possibly be destined for such a powerful weapon. Boys are never allowed to touch the sword, though he was expected to keep it safe at night
Such has been his life for the past ten years, until one night when a troublesome Tanuki broke into the family shrine disguised as Akiza…
