appearance:



As human/Tengu: Thick black hair that falls past her waist. It is generally unruly, and so she tends to tame it via a long braid - or occasionally a bun. Her eyes are a dark, intense blue. Facial features are sharp and angular, more striking than beautiful, and her skin is very pale. Her overall build is well-toned at the waist, but with a curvier figure, rather than stick thin. Her choice of dress is varied, but overall quite modest and almost masculine, tending to hide her figure rather than flatter it, though this is not a conscious choice on her part. Jeans and sensible boots, along with form-fitting white t-shirts covered by long sleeved button downs (often worn partly or completely open) are a go-to choice. That said, she does know how to dress to her advantage, and of course wears her uniform when at school, but is inclined to clothing choices that are more practical than fashionable. This is invariably paired with an old but well cared for leather jacket that she “acquired” (read “stole”) from an affectionate uncle, who is like a second father to her. Tengu appearance is largely similar to human form, with the exception of long, wide-set, feathered black wings that brush the ground slightly as she walks. The eyes also glow a bright, crystalline blue when she is using her Tengu powers.



As Demon: Very similar to human/Tengu form, but her hair turns white, and her eyes turn yellow. Wings may also be present in this form, but will disappear if she envelops herself in enough of her demon power. Eyes will glow bright yellow when using demon power.

Shapeshifting - both full and partial

Superhuman strength/agility

Short distance teleportation - destination must be within sight, or otherwise very well known. She can transport through barriers, but only if she has an intense familiarity and visual memory of her destination. Ability to transport to a familiar location only works within 1 mile of destination. Repeated use of this power as a travel aid becomes less accurate with each successive use over short periods of time.

Minor healing - small injuries or illnesses

Light-bending/invisibility - wings must be out for this ability. She can fold the wings around her body and use them to reflect/bend light, effectively rendering her invisible. She can also blend into shadows in the same manner.



Demon:

Wound transfer - if she cannot heal it, she can take the injury as her own, removing it from another person, and allow her own accelerated healing to mend her injury quickly

Accelerated healing factor

Use of magic to enhance fighting ability (add fire damage to melee attacks, etc). Has limited access to all elements, but is strongest with fire and lightning. Emotions often impact which power comes easiest to her for use.

Extreme hydrophobia - being upon/in any body of water she cannot see the bottom of causes immediate panic

Massive energy consumption - due to the conflicting nature of her tengu and demon powers, any use of any of her powers causes a massive energy drain. She must eat excessively and sleep excessively in order to recover appropriately.

Does not respond normally to the healing of other healers - i.e. they have to expend much more power than normal to cause her to heal. Medications also require massive doses to be effective.

Must be calm and well rested to control her powers well

personality: The chief conundrum of her personality is that she pretends that she is tough - and actually is quite tough - but privately believes that she is inferior, weak, etc. She has an inherent need to control as much of her own life as she can, but this is born out of necessity: the unexpected, forbidden combination of her Tengu and demon powers is quite volatile, and requires intense meditation, focus, and control on her part in order to keep it contained. As a result, she often presents as very calm, cool, and collected, especially during intense situations, and devotes quite a bit of time to meditation and conscious emotional equanimity. This can cause her to come across to many as stiff and aloof, but is a result of an intense personal fear of what might happen if she relaxes her tightly-maintained control.



Beneath the control however, she is very sensitive about all of the supernatural things that make her different from others. Particularly, her mixed, taboo parentage of Tengu and demon is a source of extreme insecurity on her part. She is not welcome in either Tengu or demon circles, having been termed an abomination by both, and has thus been raised among humans, all of whom must be kept completely ignorant that she is not also human. Her mother - the demon - and father, the Tengu, are very supportive of her, and despite the strangeness of it and their exile from amongst their peers, they are a tight knit family. They have a small circle of trusted humans who know their real history and whom they consider adoptive family.



In general, her personality is sweet and genuine, but she is shy, quiet, and awkward with new people. Her anger, though rarely aroused, is not to be trifled with, and potentially capable of incidents of catastrophic proportions. She is intensely loyal, and will defend those she cares for against any opposition, often to her own detriment. She will be the last to truly accept that someone she counted as a friend has betrayed her, and only when another trusted person hammers the evidence firmly into her mind. She takes betrayals very hard, and has great difficulty recovering from them.

important.NPCs:



Ken - father. He is a Tengu, who married a demon despite the taboo nature of the relationship. He is somewhat overprotective and socially awkward, but very nurturing and loving.



Megumi - mother. She is a demon. She is bold and outgoing, and very blunt tongued. She has more faith in her daughter’s responsibility and independence than Ken or Daisuke, trusting her daughter to make good decisions and use her power wisely. This faith is unshaken by the incident with Karasuko’s friend.



Daisuke (Unca Dai) - human adoptive uncle, best friend of Ken. He is a second father to her, and in many ways is more protective than either of her parents.



history: Karasuko was born of the taboo union between a male tengu - Ken - and a female demon - Megumi. They were exiled from amongst their peers for their forbidden relationship, married, and chose to raise the child born of their union amongst humans, where she would be free of the label of “abomination” that both of their races would have forced upon her. She has attended human school (with her wings “folded” a.k.a invisible/intangible), to include regular classes and extracurricular activities, and particularly enjoys competing on her school’s archery team. She makes decent grades, and particularly excels in mathematics. The general public is completely unaware that she is not a normal, human girl like the rest at her school. There are a few, trusted humans who have befriended her family, and these people are entrusted with the secret of her nonhuman parentage, and privileged to witness the supernatural abilities of herself and her parents. These people are her adopted extended family.



Her parents are very supportive, and her father particularly is overprotective, as is her favorite “uncle”, Daisuke (affectionately known as “Unca Dai”). Daisuke is very much a second father to her, and much of her personality is adapted from him. This overprotection is unfortunately well founded. Within the last year, she had a falling out with her human best friend, whom she’d been close to since early childhood and who was the only friend she ever entrusted with the knowledge of her powers. The disagreement was trivial, but as teenagers will, her friend threatened to expose her supernatural origins to the rest of their community, as a means of revenge. Karasuko pleaded with her not to and, when her friend adamantly refused and turned to go follow up on her threat, she panicked. Her equanimity disrupted, Karasuko lost control of her volatile powers and her friend was killed by the resultant aftermath.



This left her quite traumatized and fearful of what her power is capable of. Her family moved to another section of the city shortly thereafter, and she changed schools to avoid detection. She has never again trusted knowledge of her supernatural heritage to anyone outside her adoptive family, and is now hesitant to use her powers, even for small tasks, ever fearful that it will escape her grasp again. This is a large portion of why she perceives herself as weak and inferior, and she now hesitates to get close to others.
