appearance:
Arashi Is tall, standing at about 6’6”, with a lean muscular build. His life at sea has caused him to have lightly tanned skin and to build up a bit more muscular bulk than most of his men, but it is not enough that he looks like a bodybuilder or something. He has a small collection of little scars here and thereover most parts of his body, but most notable is a long thin scar that crosses his chest from one side to the other, over the heart. He has black hair with a wave to it that falls to his mid back, and he has icy blue eyes that glow purple when he uses his powers. His usual manner of dress is practical for the life he lives - black boots, and trousers, a button up shirt that is usually white with a blue vest or blue with a black vest, and a black jacket that falls down to his knees. He has a black three cornered hat he wears sometimes, but usually only during battle to mark himself as the captain. He carries a katana on his belt, and a few small pouches of useful things, as well as a couple of knives and other small weapons. His most prized possession is a pair of teardrop shaped gemstones hanging on a silver chain. The first stone is white, but has swirls of pink, blue and purple while the second is mostly purple with swirls of blue, pink and white. These gems are clearly one-of-a-kind, and he wears them on the same chain tucked inside his shirt.

EVERYTHING'S INSIDE
powers: As a Yuki Onna, Arashi has many powers that can come in quite useful. Since it is dangerous to let it be known that he is a rare male with powers in his species, he pretends to be a Seishi of Genbu to explain his powers, and uses the name his mother’s people called him - Akuun, meaning “bad luck” as his Seishi name. His eyes glow purple when he is using his ice or snow powers.
Ice Creation/Manipulation: As a Yuki Onna, he has the ability to create ice and snow on a whim. It is easier if the temperature is cooler, but with enough energy he could even do this in the middle of the desert. He can also create and manipulate snow, and has done so in battle before to gain the upperhand, especially against opponents like Fan who also have powers, and a lot less scruples. He is able to form a layer of ice over an injury to serve as a bandage until it can be properly treated, and this ice will not melt until he is ready for it to.
Freezing Wind: In addition, Arashi can lower the ambient temperature of a small area to below freezing temperatures. This tends to be something he does without thinking when angered, though he can do it intentionally as well. This makes him able to perform larger and more elaborate freats with his ice and snow.
Gemstone Tears: Perhaps the thing Yuki Onna are most known for, and the reason they have been hunted to near extinction. When Arashi - or any member of his species - cries, the tears almost instantly solidify into shining teardrop shaped gemstones. The color of the precious gem depends on the emotion and reason behind the tears. All tears cried by Yuki Onna are priceless and rare. In the case of tears shed for multiple reasons, either the gems will come out solid colors, but multiple (such as half of them are pink, and half of them are white) or they will be swirled like the ones he wears. The colors are:
Red - anger
Blue - sadness
Pink - happiness
Yellow - fear
White - love
Green - disgust
Black - mourning
Purple - friendship
Orange - surprise
Brown - illness/pain
abilities:
Sailing: Having been born on his father’s ship, and raised on the high seas, Arashi feels more comfortable on the water than on land. He has mastered every part of sailing a ship and is not too proud to step in and help out during storms or when the ship is under attack. His men respect him for being a hard worker and appreciate everything they do.
Armed and Unarmed Combat: From a very young age, Arashi’s father pushed him to be a good fighter, insisting that a pirate who couldn’t fight no matter the xircumstances was no pirate at all, and because of this, his son often suffered throug rough training sessions - though his mother called them “torture”, rather than training - and he amassed a collection of various little scars here and there - though his largest did not come from this training.
Flute: Arashi plays a transverse flute, and though he always carries it, few have ever witnessed him playing, though his men will hear the melodic notes drifting out of his cabin late at night, from time to time. It is a skill he picked up from his mother, and he is surprisingly talented. He loves music, and encourages it among his men to keep up the spirits.
Tactical Skill: Arashi has a keen intellect and a cunning mind, and he is a top pirate for a good reason. He can always find a way to outthink his enemies and aid his friends. Although he was denied a formal education, his mother ensured he could read, and had a sympathetic member of his father’s crew buy him new books to study every time they had shore leave - she and Arashi, and later Lian, were never allowed to leave the ship.
Medicinal Knowledge: Seeing as they cannot always seek proper medical treatment on the ocean, Arashi has studied medicine to the full extent of his capabilities, and he in fact serves as the ship’s doctor, in addition to being its captain.
weapons: His primary weapon is a katana, but he also has a few knives and even a chain scythe, though that usually stays on the wall in his room, unless he knows he’s about to go into battle.
strengths: His main strengths are his intelligence and cunning - he is a lot smarter than people expect a rogue like him to be, and he knows how to use his intelligence - and peoples’ underestimation of it - to his full advantage. He has a kind heart - though he often tries to pretend he is coldhearted to keep others from getting close enough to find out his secret. He has a massive amount of energy, considering his relative size so he can use his powers - for fight, or stay awake, etc - longer than many others without tiring. He also has the convenience of a nearly limitless personal wealth, and the contacts to safely and anonymously sell the gems he and his sister produce, without others finding out their secret.
weaknesses: His cunning mind sometimes forces him to overthink a given situation, and his kind heart can often get him into trouble. He is quick to help others and take their foes on as his own, which has drawn him and his men into more than one skirmish. He has more energy than one expects, but expending it leaves him exhausted and starving, and he will have to eat and sleep more than is normal in order to recover. For this reason, he tries his best not to use up all of his energy at one time. Although he has a small fortune to his name, he lives a very isolating life, knowing that should anyone find out he and his sister are Yuki Onna, they would take advantage of them for personal gain, just as his father did. For this reason, he has trust issues, and does not let many people get very close to him. He really only trusts Kenki and Sakura with the full extent of the truth. This makes for a very lonely existence, and it is tiresome to never be able to fully relax.
personality: Arashi carefully crafted a cold, distant demeanor around anyone outside his family and crew. Deep within, beneath the icy indifference and massive trust issues, he has a loving, gentle personality. He can be a bit impulsive when making decisions but they are never unwisely made, and he always sees things through until the end. He takes honor and respect seriously, and if he gives you his world, he will do his best to keep it until his dying breath. If he has to break a promise, he tries to compensate the person he promised in some way to make up for his inability to keep his word. He likes to tease, especially among his men, and he likes to laugh and encourage good spirits with his crew. He will go out of his way to help those in need, and he will do all he can to help in any way possible. He longs for a chance to have a more normal life, and to have friends and perhaps someday a lover that he can fully trust with all of his secrets and burdens, but he does not think that is ever going to be a possibility for him, so he instead does all he can to ensure his little sister Lian has those chances instead. He is often haunted by nightmares of the mistreatment he and his mother and sister suffered at the hands of his father and his crew, but he withstands these night terrors silently and stoically, never wanting to trouble others with his own problems. He has a fondness of music, and a soft spot for animals, allowing his men to keep any pets they like, so long as they properly look after them, and the animals pose no threat to the rest of the crew. He even has a cat named Ishii - after his mother - that has an almost comical friendship with Kenki’s parrot, Lee. It is not uncommon for the bird to land on the cat’s back and be carried all over the ship.

how.do.they.feel.about.normal.humans: He decides this on a case by case basis, determining his feelings toward a person based on their actions and any number of subtle, nonverbal hints.

Lian: Arashi’s 21 year old sister. Her hair is naturally half black and half white, though her black colored eyes turn yellow when she uses her powers. She grew up learning the ways of a pirate just like Arashi did, but she gave up that life in order to stay in Zenchi and look after Sakura until she was of age to marry. She’s a bit of a tomboy and is likely to join a fight as quickly as any man. She does not work - using the proceeds of selling her own tears to support herself and Sakura, and she is thus free to take the younger girl on trips to nice resorts and otherwise spoil her. She considers Sakura her own little sister, and treats Kenki just as she does her own big brother - though she will sometimes teasingly flirt with him to try to make him blush.
Ishii: His white kitten. She has solid white, very fluffy fur, and lovely green eyes. She is still fairly small, as he has only had her for a few months, but she is growing quickly and has proven to be a friendly, lovable little creature.

history:
His father, a pirate captain named Chin Yi came across his mother, a Yuki Onna named Ishii, while docked in a port in Hokkan. He managed to trick the young, innocent woman into revealing what she was - and he had heard of what her kind was capable of, so he lured her onto his ship to keep her as a captive there. He would treather very kind some days - gaining gems of pick, purple and even white from her - while other times he would abuse and torture her - gaining gems of red, blue, tellow and even a golden brown. He tried time and again to convince her to have a child - as he thought he could sell the baby Yuki Onna for a high price, but she refused to simply have one on her own, knowing his plans for the child. Fed up with her refusal, he forced himself upon her, doing so until he was sure she was with child.

Arashi was born on board his fathers’s ship during a nasty storm, and the moment his mother saw him, she cried a single multicolored gem - white with swirls of blue, pink and purple - for she loved her baby, and was happy that she would have a companion in her solitude, but she was also sad for she knew her son would not have a n easy, happy life. She quickly hid this single tear, and fashioned it into a necklace that she taught her son to keep hidden. His father was furious to discober a son, instead of a daughter, because it meant that it was very unlikely he had inherited his mother’s ability to cry gems. He was pleasantly surprised to find his son crying little yellow gemstone tears just moments later, but when he docked and tried to sell the baby, he was unable to as no one had ever heard of a male Yuki Onna.

He was treated in much the same way his mother had been, though she tried to shield her young son from the brunt of his father’s torment. When he was four years old, his mother gave birth again, this time to a lovely little girl with black and white hair she named Lian. She was clearly greatly weakened by the birth, and when Chin Yu hinted that he would soon try to sell Lian, Ishii told him that if he did, se would take her own life, and toss Arashi into the sea, and he would be left with no way to produce his precious gemstones. Grudgingly, Chin Tu let her keep both children, and ceased his efforts to try and have her produce children that he could sell for profit.

Arashi’s mother neer fully recovered from the birth of his little sister, and she died when he was ten years of age, producing lovely black and blue swirled gems, mourning the fact that she could no longer protect her children. Chin Yu tried once to get to Lian, but Arashi used his ice powers to stop his father, insisting that he could take any amount of torment, as long as Lian was left alone. Striking a bargain, he began to harvest the gems of rougher emotions from his son, while he indulged his daughter and encouraged her to produce the gems of happier emotions.

Both children grew up on the ship, learning all of the tricks of the trade and becoming good pirates in their own right, though each had a tear their mother shed at their birth to remember her by. Arashi trained hard to learn all he could, and bided his time until he could outsmart his father and escape with his sister. When he was 19 and Lian 15, his father decided to take up his quest to have a baby Yuki Onna to sell, and ordered one of his men to take his daughter as a lover until a child was made. The night the man dragged Lian to his quarters was the night Arashi had reached his breaking point. He killed the man for daring to harm his sister - though he had arrived before anything had really happened - and then he sought out his father, fighting him to the death. Arashi received a slice across his chest that would have undoubtedly been a killing blow if he hadn’t moved back just in time, though it did leave a scar. He triumphed over his father. He forced the ship to take them to the nearest port in Hokkan, and they disembarked, allowing those meant to split the largest portion of the teardrop gems his father had so selfishly hoarded.

It took the pair several months, but they eventually made their way to the mountains and discovered the hidden homeland of the Yuki Onna. Though Lian was welcomed with open arms, Arashi was treated with suspicion - called Akuun (Bad Luck) by many of the women there, as it was considered a bad omen for a male to have their powers. Still, the pair tried to settle in the village for a time, and Arashi even became close with one of the younger women there, Yumiko. The pair became lovers, but he soon found out that this was all orchestrated by one of the elders of the village so that Yumiko could gain his trust and assassinate him. Heartbroken, he and Lian left the village and reopened to a port town, stocking up, buying a ship and hitting a crew to work it, the pair set out to the seas once more, returning to a way of life that was more familiar to them.

Shortly after that, he befriended another pirate captain named Seung - though both had major trust issues, they managed to work out an alliance, and have saved each other more than once. It made sense as they both disliked another pirate named Fan. He had also changed with a young pirate named Naraku who tried to have his easy with Liam while in a port town - although she managed to embarrass him by freezing him in place and leaving him there for his men to find with his pants around his feet - and Arashi has vowed to keep him from harassing other young women.

About three years ago, he learned that Fan was keeping a young girl hostage to force one of his men to work for him. Feeling honor bound to help the girl, he stabbed an attack and sent Lian in to rescue the girl while he found her brother. He recognized Kenki as being a younger man he had faced in the royal navy of Zenchi, and knew him to be an honorable person. He explained that his sister was rescuing Sakura, and offered them safe passage on his ship back to land. He offered all the men of Fan’s crew either safe passage, or a place among his crw and a few besides Kenki took him up on the offer. When they reached Zenchi, Lian decided to stay to look after Sakura until she came of age to marry the young man who had fallen in love with her. Before Arashi Ave Lian parted ways, each shed a single tear for missing their beloved sibling. They each added the other's tear to the necklace they had with their mother's tear. Liam's treat was a purple one with swirls of pink, while and a bit of blue.

Now Arashi travels the seas of the world doing all that he can to give his men the sort of life they desire. Only Kenki and Sakura know that he and his sister are Yuki Onna, as he has convinced the rest that he used to be a Genbu Seishi, but his Miko died.
