OOC: flip flopping characters since the post that Haru is replying to comes before the post that Hotori is replying to. LOL
IC: "Um...Onii-chan… About those questions…"
Haru gave her a reassuring smile. “For starters, you can call me Haru. Most everyone around here does, these days.” He looked around and spotted the dress shop he’d gone to just an hour earlier for Hotori. “Here, let's get you something that will blend in a bit better around here, and then we can head back and see if we can’t figure out what’s going on. I don’t think things are bad enough for Suzaku to need two Miko, so I think this must be something else.” He waved to the plump older woman running the shop, smiling. “Hanako-san! I need the full works, like before, but to fit this young lady.”
“Silly boy, if they didn’t fit, you should’ve brought them back.” The woman came over to look at Shouri. “Yes dear, I think blues would suit you, come along…”
“Mo, Hanako-san, those were for a different girl.” Haru corrected, rubbing the back of his head. “Those were for my cousin from Ongaku. This is my cousin from Zenchi.” He knew enough about this woman to know that she’s heard of both little kingdoms, but had never met anyone from there. “And as soon as they saw the lovely dress Shi-chan was wearing they both wanted one as well.” As the clerk began to look for things for Shouri, he mouthed at her. ‘I’ll explain everything as soon as we're done here, I promise.’
~~
“Stay close to me. By the by, I’ll need be angry to hear you talk about the things you enjoy and are passionate about Hotori, so there is no need to apologise. I want to learn about the world you come from. I could never find you a burden, your rosy cheeks are rather endearing.”
Hotori took his hand obediently, sticking close to his side as they left the inn. Her eyes looked around them at the different stands and at the people running around and generally enjoying themselves. “This looks a lot like the festivals back home, in a lot of ways, though there are usually food trucks instead of stalls like this…” She waved that comment off, as it would be too hard to explain to him. She smiled brightly when he said she didn’t need to apologize, but then blushed at the little compliment. She then placed her free hand on her cheek, and blushed a bit more. She looked up at him, and realized he was actually quite handsome when he smiled. That thought made her blush even more, and she hid her face against his arm for a few moments. Taking a deep breath, she wagged a finger at him teasingly. “Now, now, Isamu-kun. It isn’t nice to tease. I may have to tell Meian-onii-chan on you…” She giggled at the thought of her first friend in this world. She wasn’t sure why she had called him that, but somehow it seemed to fit.
She accepted the octopus ball, carefully digging in as she walked with him, being careful not to drop anything on the lovely dress.Stopping beside him, she watched the puppet show with a look of wonder akin to the ones worn by the kids at the front of the group. “Really? That’s so interesting…and they are so pretty. Maybe I can make some like that when I get home. My aunt and Shouri-chan would love them.” Not that she had ever made anything like that before, but she was a firm believer that you never knew what you could do until you tried.
With her treat finished and her hands free, she placed one affectionately over her locket. “I miss them…” She admitted softly. “But this is just like the storybook Aunt Midori read to me when I was little…which means that they’ll always be with me, and maybe even that I could go back to visit them…” This was the first time she had mentioned that storybook since arriving here, and it may just serve as a clue as to why the cheerful young woman was coping so well. She looked up at Isamu and smiled. “Still, it’s very hard to feel sad when you’ve all been so kind to me.” The puppet show ended, and she looked around for what they could do next.

Haru was much a better name to call him than "Onii-chan," Shouri decided. The only problem was, she wasn't sure if she could trust him. She was still a young woman in an unfamiliar place she had just been magicked into. He ushered her into a dress shop, and a friendly if slightly confused lady began to help them. It did make sense for her to have something to blend in with. He had brought someone else in? Her stomach dropped, and she stopped mid-step. Was...was he a trafficker or something? Her stomach was in a knot as she looked at him, and he silently promised to explain everything later, but...this was looking really suspicious.
She looked down when something caught her eye. Something was glowing in her hand while she gripped her necklace. Looking down, she saw a warm blue light coming from her fist. She opened her hand a bit and saw that the back of the coin with the pear backing was giving off the glow. She felt connected to it, and powerful. Shouri felt her heart slow for the first time, like she had an ally in case things with Haru went south. The light faded, but the feeling didn't. She looked at him and nodded with a small smile.
"Shades of blue sound good, Hanako-san. Like the ocean," she offered. She didn't know if this land was close to the ocean or not, but it did make her think of home.

“This looks a lot like the festivals back home, in a lot of ways, though there are usually food trucks instead of stalls like this…”
Isamu turned to look at her with a puzzled look. He wondered what trucks were but just as he was about to ask she waved her hand dismissively. Maybe it was difficult to explain but he was too curious about her world, “Are trucks a form of stall?” He thought about everything connected to food stalls, “Or perhaps it moves, I know we have chariots and carts to move things around. I also know of gipsy wagons.” He shrugged maybe it was not worth bothering but he did not meet a person from a completely different world every day. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and there were Seishi that did not get to meet the Miko, as they did not arrive every single time Seishi are gathered, sometimes the kingdom is so at peace that the Miko is not needed. She seemed to be enjoying herself, he was glad he suggested taking her to the festival. It would also hopefully make her forget about the horrible experience she had when she arrived here. His eye nearly twitched, Akhram had to pay for everything he did, to him and those around him, he still remembered when his best friend and brother-at-arms Hanzo stood up for him, helped him out, Akhram made sure to have his people raided and his wife killed. Luckily his parents escaped but, the incident still left a mark in his friend’s heart. And for that, he felt responsible no matter how many times Hanzo told him that everything happening was all because a bloodthirsty General like Akhram was free to go about as he pleased and his Emperor did not punish him.
He rubbed the back of his head reminding himself that right now was not a good time to think of such dark events. He had to be sharper than ever now that his Miko had arrived, he had to ensure she did not go through events of such a kind again. She had the most difficult decisions to make so he wanted to ensure that she enjoyed her time in this world as much as possible and she was safe. He was a bodyguard, he was used to protecting others but when it came to the Miko he was even more demanding of himself. He looked down at his hadn’t holding hers, it was strange how much he wanted to keep her safe, she did not usually walk around holding the hand of his charge.
“Now, now, Isamu-kun. It isn’t nice to tease. I may have to tell Meian-onii-chan on you…”
Isamu watched as she reacted to his compliment and it turned out to be quite adorable. He laughed softly, wait what? He was laughing? He nearly froze in shock, he could not remember the last time anything had caused him to smile, and to laugh? Well his little Miko sure was something else. He noticed the various stages of blush and when she used his arm to hide her embarrassment he smiled tenderly. To her words he raised an eyebrow and then smiled before he said, “What did I tell you? Endearing.” He still did not understand why the younger Seishi would stick to the shadows. Just the thought of Hotori complaining about this to Meian who was younger than Isamu was so ridiculously funny that he could not stop himself form chuckling. And she called him her brother. He wondered how Meian would feel about that, if his suspicious were right he would love being called her brother, as he seemed to already behave as the doting elver brother. He always stayed close to them as well. What a strange young man, and yet he seemed to be on the same page as Isamu and wanted to make her feel as comfortable as possible.
“Really? That’s so interesting…and they are so pretty. Maybe I can make some like that when I get home. My aunt and Shouri-chan would love them.”
Isamu found himself smiling more than usual and yet this time he allowed it. Why not? It was true that he had the nickname of the “Ice Knight” partly due to his ice abilities as a Seishi, but also because he kept his distance from other people. He had suffered greatly in the past and that had made him weary of others. Not Hotori, he was not sure what it was, not only the fact that she came from another world but her sweet disposition assured him that she was not the kind of person to pretend to bond with others and then turn her back on them or backstab them. With that thought in mind, he would allow himself to befriend this lovely woman from another world. “I could look and see if there are any workshops in the area before we set off. We will need to find the other warrior and introduce you to the Empress.” He had to admit that watching her make puppets would be such an adorable activity he did not mind waiting one more day before they had to set off. He had to speak with Haru and see what he thought on the matter. Although, when Hotori mentioned going back to her world, that somehow made him sad. What a strange thing, it was the most common thing for the Miko to return to her world once the task was done. So… why did it bother him to think of Hotori no longer standing next to him?
“I miss them… But this is just like the storybook Aunt Midori read to me when I was little…which means that they’ll always be with me, and maybe even that I could go back to visit them…”
Isamu looked at her for a moment, “It is normal you should miss your family, after all, when possible you spend all your life close to your family.” He then nodded to her last words, “I believe that so long as you hold an item that a person close to you in your world also holds, there is a chance you can travel to see them.”
“Still, it’s very hard to feel sad when you’ve all been so kind to me.”
Isamu smiled, “Its the least we can do for you, you left your life behind in order to help the Kingdom that we serve, we are indebted to you in more ways than one.” He guided her to a small gallery where people showcased their paintings based on the festival and then he said, “As soon as you feel tire delete know and we can go back and rest.” He did not want her to overexert herself, she had had a long day. There were also some small archery stalls to win a price, “How good are you with archery?” He thought it would be adorable to watch her win something.

HAru had a good sense of people, and he could tell that he’d somehow done something to make this young woman feel uneasy. Taking a chance as Hanako-san bustled off to find her some things to look at, he crossed to her and spoke quietly. “I know this may look suspicious, gien Hanako-san’s comments about the other clothing, but I promise you I am a friend to those from your world. I am what is known as one of the Seven Seishi of Suzaku, and our Priestess arrived just this morning from your world. I had to heal her and one of my fellow Seishi, and she was dressed much as you are, so naturally I had to pick her up some things to wear. She said that her outfit consisted of ‘blue jeans’ and a ‘band shirt’ that she usually wore for cleaning. She also had a rag tied about her hair, but that seemed less odd.‘ He spoke these words as someone who wasn’t sure if they were correct, but at minimum she should realize he couldn’t have made those terms up without hearing them from somewhere.
He thought for a long moment. “My Miko - the girl from your world that I found this morning - should be at the inn. I intend to take you to meet her as soon as we’re done here, but you see this is my third trip out and moving through the crowded festival streets today. I’ve grown a bit weary of it.” He smiled . “So I hoped to get all that you would need while we are already out. Do you have any experience with weapons? I picked up a nice bow and quiver of arrows for my Miko as she said she had studied archery, and I hoped she could help defend herself thus. Not that any of her Seishi intend to leave her alone against a foe.” His eyes were gentle and understanding. He was not offended in the least by her suspicion. “You have no reason to trust what I say, but I would like to point out the use of terms not native to my land and the offer to arm you for your own defense as proof that I mean you no ill will.”
“Here we are!” Hanako exclaimed cheerfully, bustling back up to Shouri and ushering her off to a changing area. “A lovely dress and hair ribbons for the festival, and some more practical things for traveling. Let’s see how you look, my dear…” She presented Shouri with a long sleeveless dark blue qipao that had silver and light blue decorative details to indicate ocean waves and seashells. There was matching dark blue ribbon for her hair and dark blue slippers for her feet. There was a small pile of other garments in complementing shades that were less fancy. As the older woman tended to Shouri, Haru moved back toward the front of the shop to give them some privacy.

“Are trucks a form of stall? Or perhaps it moves, I know we have chariots and carts to move things around. I also know of gipsy wagons.”
Hotori smiled brightly. “Yes, just like that. It’s a big cart that people can move from place to place, and they cook and sell their food at fairs and festivals, and sometimes there are a lot of them gathered in one place, like the park.”
“What did I tell you? Endearing.”
Hotori blushed a bit more and gently swatted his arm, but she found his smile and laughter contagious and could not help giggling along with him. “You’re terrible, Isamu-kun.”
“I could look and see if there are any workshops in the area before we set off. We will need to find the other warrior and introduce you to the Empress.”
Hotori looked up at him, excited. “You would do that? Oh, I could make one for my Aunt Midori. She would love it so much…” The second part of his sentence caught up with her and she frowned a little. “Why would I need to meet the Empress? I know we have to find four more Seishi, but…I don’t think I'm special enough to meet royalty…” She walked along with him for a few moments, thoughtful. “I hope that all of the warriors are as wonderful as you, Haru-kun and Meian-nii,,,”
“It is normal you should miss your family, after all, when possible you spend all your life close to your family. I believe that so long as you hold an item that a person close to you in your world also holds, there is a chance you can travel to see them.”
Again,Hotori looked overjoyed. “Really? My aunt has a picture like the one in my locket. Maybe one day I can try to go home, and maybe you and Haru-kun and Meian-nii can come with me. I know she would want to thank you all for looking after me…” She shook her head then. “”But for now I’ve only just gotten here. I miss home, but I’ve got a lot to do if I’m going to help the people of this world.”
“As soon as you feel tired et know and we can go back and rest. How good are you with archery?”
“I’m not tired yet.” She assured him. “I walked a lot when I first arrived here, but I was able to get a nap before Meian-nii found me, so I feel a lot better. And there is still so much to see..” She blushed just a little when he asked about archery “Actually, I was on my school's archery team, and on the track team too, until I graduated a few months ago. I really liked archery, and Haru-kun picked me up some things so I can practice here, just in case.” She moved up to a stall that let you try to hit the target for a price. Smiling brightly at Isamu, she gave a playful wink. “Maybe I’ll win you a prize, Isamu-kun. To thank you for being so kind to me all day.” She took the bow and selected an arrow from the quiver on display. Taking a deep breath to focus, she sighted along the arrow and lined up her shot before firing. The arrow landed in the center of the target. Seeing this, she gave a little jump for joy and hugged Isamu for a moment before pointing one one of the little wooden charms. When she discovered that a bullseye entitled her two the charms, she selected two tiny wooden carvings of Suzaku the Phoenix. She then held one out to Isamu. "Here, now we can each have one. Something to remember today by."

Shouri took a deep breath when Haru began to explain himself. It seemed he had had a difficult day too. She nodded along to his explanation, and she nearly hoped that the girl he was describing was Hotori, but...there was no way. It had to be another girl wearing a band shirt and jeans. She didn't know why, but she trusted this glow coming from her necklace. It hadn't been there before, but she was in a totally new place now. It felt connected to her in a way that it hadn't before. She was about to let Haru know that she would trust him now, but before she could Hanako-san bustled in with a beautiful new dress with light blue ribbons for her hair. The sight made her smile. She liked this lady, she decided.
Haru gave them some space, and she and Hanako-san began to try the dress on her. She was able to change her clothes mostly, but on some of the smaller details, the older lady was there with advice. When she saw the new dress on, she saw small embroidery on the skirt for the ocean, and flowers as well. It was beautiful. Hanako happily pulled the majority of her hair into a bun with one of the ribbons, and added a few more to the side. She reached toward her glasses, but Shouri pulled away. "Oh no, um...I need these, Hanako-san," she said with a nervous smile, not sure how the other woman would take it.
She just smiled and left them alone. Shouri chose a small jacket from a pile of garments that was picked out to go with the dress, dark green with a bright star on the left breast. It made her think of the symbol she saw coming in. "Oh, you know...they say the Seishi born under the Star sign was never born this cycle."
Shouri blinked, not knowing exactly what that meant, but somehow thinking she might have a clue. "Oh, that's...interesting..." Shouri tucked her pendant into her dress, having seen that currency resembled it now.
"Yes, and with the miko having shown up...I wonder how that will pan out. Ah, well. You look lovely, dear. I'm sure Haru is waiting for you now."
"Thank you so much, Hanako-san," she said with a smile as she picked up her own clothes and headed back to Haru.
Her boots clacked on the floor as she met the dark-haired young man again. She gave him a genuine smile. "Thank you for that explanation earlier. I uh...I've had a hard day," she said, knowing that Hanako was still in earshot.

“Yes, just like that. It’s a big cart that people can move from place to place, and they cook and sell their food at fairs and festivals, and sometimes there are a lot of them gathered in one place, like the park.”
Isamu wasn’t sure why but, he felt that every time Hotori smiled like that it suited her. He could see her inner light explain all around her and make everything beautiful and enjoyable. The last time he had felt such joy had been when he was with his family. Or he had also had good moments with his best friend Hanzo, although he had not seen the man in a while, he wondered how he was doing. Maybe he should try and send him a letter, he knew an inn he often visited, perhaps his letter would reach him there. Hotori’s voice brought him back from his musings and he turned to look at her as she spoke with great excitement. She was so full of life, such a contrast with the Ice Knight. He would do everything he could to protect that sweet smile of hers. His eyes softened as she described the world she came from, “Sounds fascinating, strange and intriguing.” He could not deny that one of the things that he had been looking forward to as a Seishi was hearing stories of that world she came from. “Are buildings quite different from the ones you have seen here so far.” He could not help his curiosity.
He walked alongside her ensuring that she could both enjoy herself and stay safe by his side. He also examined her face for time to time in case she noticed a stall that caught her attention so that he could take her there and they could stop for as long as she wished to browse around. He knew the road they would be walking was tough but he wanted to ensure she had enough fond memories to push through the hardships.
“You’re terrible, Isamu-kun.”
When she giggled it was a gentle and melodious sound like that of small bells and he could not stop himself from smiling briefly. She truly had a way of making those around her happy. And then she went and blushed again, he enjoyed whenever that happened and he was not sure why. The more time they spent together the more determined he was to protect not only her persona but also her innocence and joy. He did not want a single hair in her to change, because she was a beacon of hope for lost people like Isamu. He only hoped he could express what her contagious personality did for someone like him. Maybe he could arrange a song on his shamisen and then express it that way. But… he would have to practice and ensure she would not listen. Actually, it could work, because he always got up earlier than most folk. He could practice the song while Hotori slept.
“You would do that? Oh, I could make one for my Aunt Midori. She would love it so much…”
Isamu nodded gently to her words and was glad she liked the idea, “Being a bodyguard it should not be a problem. I know someone who would most likely know if there are any workshops happening at the moment and the time and requirements.” As soon as Hotori was settled in her room he would go about speaking with his contact to see what he could find out.
“Why would I need to meet the Empress? I know we have to find four more Seishi, but…I don’t think I'm special enough to meet royalty… I hope that all of the warriors are as wonderful as you, Haru-kun and Meian-nii.”
He looked at her for a moment surprised by the panic in her voice, in an attempt tp reassure her he gently squeezed her hand, “It’s okay Hotori-sama, you don’t need to worry. Firstly, the Empress is one of your Seishi so she needs to know we found you and will want to play her part as one of your warriors. Secondly, you might not think so but you are the most important person in the whole of Konan at the moment, for the well-being of the whole Kingdom resits in your gentle hands and it is our duty to protect you with our lives. So do not say you are not worthy… for we are not worthy of your grace.” When she said Isamu was wonderful he was a bit shocked and turned to look away in slight embarrassment, he also did not believe himself to be wonderful. After all, he was the cold Ice Knight. There was nothing wonderful about that.
“Really? My aunt has a picture like the one in my locket. Maybe one day I can try to go home, and maybe you and Haru-kun and Meian-nii can come with me. I know she would want to thank you all for looking after me… But for now I’ve only just gotten here. I miss home, but I’ve got a lot to do if I’m going to help the people of this world.”
Isamu’s eyes brightened slightly at the prospect of seeing her words with his very eyes but he managed to repress the excitement and he smiled gently and nodded, “If you wish for me to come with you, I would gladly do so.” He did not wish to appear too eager to see her world and make her think he did not wish to fulfil his task as her protector and would rather satiate his curiosity.
“I’m not tired yet… I walked a lot when I first arrived here, but I was able to get a nap before Meian-nii found me, so I feel a lot better. And there is still so much to see..”
“A nap?-“ His eyes expend widely at those words, did Hotori just confess to have decided to take a nap in the middle of nowhere because she was tired? He was shocked, something terrible could have happened to her and then… Looking at her smiling face he could not chastise her behaviour but he did say, “Please be careful Hotori-sama, taking naps in the middle of nowhere, no matter the Kingdom, can be quite dangerous…” He hoped she knew he was only worried about her and did not wish to rain on her parade.
“Actually, I was on my school's archery team, and on the track team too, until I graduated a few months ago. I really liked archery, and Haru-kun picked me up some things so I can practice here, just in case.”
She attended an archery school? He wondered if she did some martial arts as well. It was strange for a woman to learn to wield a weapon, he wondered what other differences were there between both worlds. He was surprised that he had suggested archery and she was skilled on this activity. Maybe it had been coincidence but it made him smile. Then she could get herself a souvenir, he knew some women liked doing that and wondered if Hotori liked collecting mementos.
“Maybe I’ll win you a prize, Isamu-kun. To thank you for being so kind to me all day.”
Isamu’s cheeks turned a gentle shade of pink at her wink but then her words made the colour darken into vermilion as he rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment, “Hotori-sama, there really is no need…” He looked at the floor a bit unsure as to how to react to such teasing words. Was she getting back at him for making her blush so? And then she did it, she showcased astounding archery skills and he could scarcely believe it. What precision, what aim… He was a bit relieved though as that also meant that, should anything happen to her warriors, she could at least protect herself and survive.
"Here, now we can each have one. Something to remember today by.”
He was thinking of a way to allow her to keep both carvings blushing deeply, but when she placed one on his hand and smiled so brightly at him, he took it and examined it and turned to look away to try and regain composure, “I…” He looked at the wooden carving and realised that the last time h had received a gift it had been when he and Hanzo were still in the army… That felt like such a long time ago. He finally managed to look into her eyes, “Thank you, Hotori-sama, your aim with the bow is astounding.”
Isamu decided it was time to head back before anyone wondered where they were and sent out a search party, he smirked. He gently offered her his arm once more as he placed the wooden carving in his pocket ensuring it was safely fastened and would not fall off. However, as they made their way to the centre of the festival in order to return to the Inn, music began to play and no sooner had Isamu realised where they stood, they were enveloped by couples all around them and he blushed crimson red. “Hotori-sama…” I rubbed the back of his head, “I’m afraid we ended up in the middle of the festive dance area…” Soon they were ushered into the dance routine and they could not leave until it was completed. He was not the best dancer but he tried to ensure to move with the rhythm, hew as a good musician therefore his best defence were his skills with rhythm and so mentally happing he took Hotori’s hand and led her as was customary for that dance. He was still quite… embarrassed… but he had learned to make his feelings if need be in order to perform his duties and his duty at that moment was to ensure they did not make fools of themselves in public. However, he could not deny, he was enjoying this dance with Hotori.

Hanako produced a cloth bag from the pile of clothing, and quickly and expertly folded the rest of the clothes, storing them inside before taking the things Shouri had been wearing before and putting them in there as well. Handing the bag over, she moved to take payment from Haru.
Haru had been able to overhear what the older woman had been saying. It was a small shop, and the woman spoke a bit louder than normal - he suspected hearing loss, though she had never consented to let him check and possibly correct it. He frowned slightly when she mentioned the Miko, and the Star Seishi. How had she known they found the Miko? He and Isamu had agreed to keep it under wraps for now, for Hototi’s safety. Meian may have said something, but that wasn’t likely. No, it was most likely she’d heard some false rumor and taken it as fact. He counted out the money with a warm chuckle. “Oh, Hanako-san, you think every time a stranger comes to town, she must be the Miko. Believe me, I’ll know when she arrives…” Stepping back a bit quickly, he turned to Shouri. “I bet you’re starving. And probably ready to rest. Come on, the inn isn’t far.”
Sure enough, it was a short walk back to the inn his family ran, and he stopped momentarily to have a few quick words with his mother, getting the key for the room across from Hotori’s, and requesting food brought up for Shouri.
“Isamu-san took the lovely lady out to see the festival, but as tired as the poor dear was, I suspect that they’ll be back soon. It’s getting dark after all…” His mother said with a smile. She then looked at Shouri with a fond smile. “And you, dear, if you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask. My son’s room is near o yours, and he can help with whatever it may be, or come fetch me if you’d rather.”
Haru led Shouri to the room across from Hotori’s, pausing to let himself into the Miko’s room only long enough to leave her treat, and the little kitten charm on her table for her return. That done, he moved back to Shouri’s room and knocked politely before entering. “If you can trust me with your name, so I know who I’m addressing, I’ll be happy to answer any questions you have.” He said as he leaned near the door, not wanting to crowd her. “Or I can just start telling you all that I know, and we can try to figure things out from there.”
~~~
“Are buildings quite different from the ones you have seen here so far.”
Hotori considered his question for a moment. “I’ve been to some villages with my Aunt that looked a lot like this. It’s like a time capsule, especially when you head up into the mountains…but where I live, in a city called Tokyo, it looks much different. All of the roads are paved, and packed with people all the time.The buildings are much much taller…” She thought for a long moment. the inn they were staying at had three floors. That would be a good reference. “It’s not uncommon in Tokyo for buildings to be as tall as ten or more of the inns stacked on top of each other. In fact, my home - that I share with my aunt - has three floors, like the inn, only it takes up much less room.” She glanced at him to see if that made any sense.
“It’s okay Hotori-sama, you don’t need to worry. Firstly, the Empress is one of your Seishi so she needs to know we found you and will want to play her part as one of your warriors. Secondly, you might not think so but you are the most important person in the whole of Konan at the moment, for the well-being of the whole Kingdom rests in your gentle hands and it is our duty to protect you with our lives. So do not say you are not worthy… for we are not worthy of your grace.”[/]
Hotori blushed darkly, chewing gently at her lip.0 as she listened to him. “It’s… just so hard to believe that I’m that important. and to have an Empress protect me? I can’t even imagine it.” She looked up at him earnestly at his last words, however. “Isamu-kun, please don’t say that. You are worthy of… well, of any help I can give you. You saved my life this afternoon, and you’ve gone out of your way to make me feel happy and welcome here. That means the world to me And… I would like to do anything I can to return the favor. I want you to be as happy as you have made me, and if that means being the Miko and helping Konan…well, then that’s what I’ll do. And if there is something else I can do to repay you, I will.” She noticed a light in his eyes whenever she talked about her world. That settled it. She would repay him by making sure he could come back with her, when she went to visit. That would make him happy.
“A nap?- Please be careful Hotori-sama, taking naps in the middle of nowhere, no matter the Kingdom, can be quite dangerous…”
Hotori ducked her head slightly. Although she could tell he was concerned, she felt a bit like a naughty child. “I’d been walking for ages, and I hadn’t found civilization yet, so I made sure there were no wild animals around and found the safest place I could for a nap. I tried to hide in sum shrubs beneath a tree…” She blushed a little. “But then again, Meian-nii found me and brought me here without me waking up at first, so maybe I wasn’t as careful as I thought.” Blushing a bit more, she bowed her head slightly. “I’m sorry, Isamu-kun. I promise I’ll be much more careful from now on…”
Hotori smiled brightly at the praise, and was glad that Isamu seemed to like the little gift she had given him. She took his arm, talking as they walked. “I got really good at archery, but I never got good at moving targets. Maybe that is something I can work on here…”
“Hotori-sama... I’m afraid we ended up in the middle of the festive dance area…”
She looked around her when the music started and other couples surrounded them. She blushed faintly, but smiled. “Well, I guess there’s nothing to do but finish the dance,...” She was not accustomed to dancing like this, but Isamu was a good guide, and she was a quick learner. Within seconds, they looked like any other couple as they moved to the music. She felt her shoulder barely brush another couple, and she took a step closer to Isamu, looking up into his eyes as she danced. For a moment, she forgot all about the festival and the other couples, and it was just the two of them and the music. It was quite nice to be held like this and dance. When the music ended, and they could leave the dance floor, she blushed a gentle pink, vut leaned on his arm to stretch up and kiss his cheek. “Thank you for the dance, Isamu-kun…” She wasn’t sure why she had kissed his cheek. It had just seemed like a good way to show her gratitude, and she hoped it wasn’t horribly inappropriate for this land and its customs.
(OOC: Oops, sorry, missed that NPC cue. Good save. lol)
IC:
Shouri listened as Haru spoke with Hanako-san and paid for her clothes. It seemed like the miko situation was more complicated the more she found out about it. Not that she knew much of anything. She tucked her old clothes, now in a bag, to her side and followed her escort to his family's inn. She was glad to be able to blend in at least. Some people smiled and waved at her. She was confused at first, but remembered the entrance she had made. She put on a show of being embarrassed and smiled back a few times.
The young man showed her to his family's inn, and an older woman, likely his mother, spoke to them briefly. She told Shouri to ask if she needed anything. She thanked her, and Haru showed her to her room.
When the door closed, she felt tears come to her eyes. She realized she had been holding it together since she had appeared, and now that she had safety, she felt emotions welling up. She wanted to go home and tell Hajime all about this mess. She wanted to hug her brother, or see her best friend. She wanted her life that she had worked for back. When Haru knocked on the door, she was quietly crying into her hands, and the noise had made her flinch.
She sniffled and tried to wipe her face clean, but knew it was no good. She opened the door, and cleared her throat. "My name is Shouri, and I'm sorry I'm a mess right now. But I opened a cool book, and a light started shining, then I was floating, and the character for 'star' smacked me in the face, and..." she laughed bitterly at the ridiculous explanation. "I don't know what I'm gonna do..."
“I’ve been to some villages with my Aunt that looked a lot like this. It’s like a time capsule, especially when you head up into the mountains…but where I live, in a city called Tokyo, it looks much different. All of the roads are paved, and packed with people all the time.The buildings are much much taller…”
Isamu was greatly surprised, he had expected her world to be completely different to his own but judging by her words it was a mixture of buildings like the ones in this village and some completely different. He could not imagine paved roads and a lot of people walking around. And judging by what she said much more people than he had ever seen. What a strange concept, it still made him smile to know there was some form of link between his world and Hotori’s, not sure why but he found it comforting to know that when she had landed her it ha don’t been that much of an alien world to her. Although, due to her clothing it had been a much more different time maybe decades if not centuries ahead of Isamu’s time period. However, it felt such a strange thing to consider he was not sure how it could be thus. You would think that the people summoned would be from around the same time period but, he suspected that was not the case. Even if he tried to get his head around the paradox of time periods and time travelling it was far too complex for someone who lacked the knowledge to understand. He at times wondered if Hotori thought the same. He pondered on the fact that finding herself in a similar location, as she had described when she visited old villages with her aunt, was even stranger for she would not see the same kind of customs or people or appearance as she might be used to. He nearly smirked, it appeared he was far too curious about her world and learning how she had felt when she first arrived to Konan and experienced everything with new eyes. He hoped she had not been too afraid though, he could imagine it being disconcerting to find yourself in a place you had never seen before out of a sudden.
“It’s not uncommon in Tokyo for buildings to be as tall as ten or more of the inns stacked on top of each other. In fact, my home - that I share with my aunt - has three floors, like the inn, only it takes up much less room.”
He raised an eyebrow trying to imagine a city like Hotori described and his brain nearly went into overdrive. He looked at one of the buildings they were passing by and imagine it much taller and he felt slightly overwhelmed. How did they get to build such tall buildings? He wondered if the ground was stable enough and it the weight of the buildings would not affect both the structure and the ground itself. He assumed that the differences did not stop there, social structures, transportation, everything must be quite different and he found himself smiling a tad incredulous, “I find it difficult to imagine a society that can build sky-tall buildings that do not fall nor affect the ground and where the way of life was just as different. It sounds fascinating.” He did not wish to sound too astounded or he would border on awkward but he would truly enjoy maybe if she could bring a book with her next time she travelled between worlds, he would like to see some pictures or read the text. He would need impose on coming with her, unless she wanted him to. It was true that it was his duty to protect her but he also knew that she often said she missed her family and they would probably not appreciate having a stranger in their own little family reunion. He looked into her eyes for a moment wondering what kind of people her friends and family were. He supposed they were wonderful people because Hotori seemed to be so caring and selfless.
“It’s… just so hard to believe that I’m that important. And to have an Empress protect me? I can’t even imagine it.”
He nodded, “It is perfectly understandable to feel as confused as you do but, believe me when I say that the whole Kingdom is at your beck and call. Without you, we would not survive what is to come, so do not feel yourself unworthy of our protection and devotion as your warriors. As one of your Seishi it is the Empress’s duty to protect you. There is no need to worry about anything else. In time you will find it more tolerable.” He hoped that she took his words for he was trying to comfort her but also reassure her that no one in Konan would see their Miko as a burden and with her cary and gentle heart they would all rejoice for the wishes she would make would be just what they would need.
”Isamu-kun, please don’t say that. You are worthy of… well, of any help I can give you. You saved my life this afternoon, and you’ve gone out of your way to make me feel happy and welcome here. That means the world to me And… I would like to do anything I can to return the favor. I want you to be as happy as you have made me, and if that means being the Miko and helping Konan…well, then that’s what I’ll do. And if there is something else I can do to repay you, I will.”
Isamu blushed lightly and rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment. He was not used to receiving so much attention and her words were so earnest they were not rehearsed so it made it hard for him not to feel happy with what she had told him. “Hotori-sama, you are too kind.”
“I’d been walking for ages, and I hadn’t found civilization yet, so I made sure there were no wild animals around and found the safest place I could for a nap. I tried to hide in sum shrubs beneath a tree… But then again, Meian-nii found me and brought me here without me waking up at first, so maybe I wasn’t as careful as I thought.”
Isamu was a bit shocked at the fact that Hotori just told him that she had taken a nap in the middle of nowhere and someone had found her and she had only woken up after she realised she was being carried. Although, he could not be too strict with her because she had only just been summoned and she had probably been confused, scared and she still managed to survive, he assumed one of the reasons Meian managed to find her was because he was a Seishi. But he would probably ask the man about it, and also inquire as to why he kept to the shadows and never interacted with them. Surely he would have to introduce himself eventually, otherwise, it would just make no sense whatsoever to have a man in their group they knew nothing about and did not even know what he looked like. For al he knew, he could be coming to visit Hotori in her chambers and find him speaking with her and think him a thief or something.
”I’m sorry, Isamu-kun. I promise I’ll be much more careful from now on…”
Isamu blushed deeply and waved his hands dismissively looking away, “Please Miko-sama, do not bow to someone as unworthy as me. I believe you and, I cannot say I blame you because I’m perfectly aware of the fact that you were brought into this world without a friend or weapon nor means to survive and you managed to get close enough for one of us to find you. I think you did good.”
“I got really good at archery, but I never got good at moving targets. Maybe that is something I can work on here…”
He nodded, “That i something I can help you with, I… used to be a General in the army a few years ago.” He only told her that in order to ensure she knew that he was not making anything up and he did wish to help her. After all, some people made empty promises and he had never been that sort of person. If something was within his capabilities he would promise to do his very best to help.
“Well, I guess there’s nothing to do but finish the dance,…”
He was a bit surprised at her reaction and the fact that she did not seem to mind dancing a song with him. It was so strange how despite everything he seemed to enjoy dancing with her and she was smiling so she seemed to be having a good time as well. He did his best to match the movements of the other gentlemen and to keep the rhythm of the song in order to avoid them tripping or something. It was so enjoyable that before he knew it the dance had finished and he was slightly surprised he wished they did not have to return yet. He could hardly believe such thoughts as this was not an activity he partook in often. However, he was grateful to Hotori for allowing them both to have a lovely evening. He was about to offer Hotori his arm for them to walk away from the dance area when he felt her lean on his arm and kiss his cheek.
“Thank you for the dance, Isamu-kun…”
He had been so surprised he had taken one step back to mask his gasp. His cheek still felt warm from the kiss and his cheeks turned a deep shade of vermillion. He was so embarrassed he offered her his arm to walk back. And she had done so out in the open, he did not want her to think she offended him in any way though and did not wish to ruin the moment so he took a deep breath to regain composure and then said, “There is nothing to thank, the pleasure was all mine.” He blushed even more and rubbed the back of his head, “I… have not had this much fun in a long time.” He was most likely a tomato by now but he had to reassure her that she had not offended him and that he had enjoyed their time together as much as she had.
As soon as they reached the Inn though he turned to look into her eyes for a moment and then he took her hand and gently kissed the back of his hand, “Thank you, Hotori-sama, for being my Miko.” His cheeks turned a light shade of pink but he still managed to smile briefly at her. As soon as he turned to guide her back into the Inn, however, he felt a tug on his hand and as soon as he turned back to check on Hotori she was nowhere to be found. He began to look around him until he noticed a note on the palm of his hand.
He opened it and read it and then muttered, “Damn you Meian!”
He sighed shaking his head and walked back into his chambers to leave most of this belongings, with the exception of his katana. He then decided to go look for Hanako to let Haru know, once he was free that he wanted to speak with him in order to catch up and decide the best course of action, he also wanted to let him know about a ceramics puppet making workshop to see if they could fit that in with their eventual trip to the Palace.
Meian had decided to cut Hotori and Isamu some slack and wait at the Inn, he had some things to get sorted, some letters to send and some things to plan. The good news was that he was going to be able to keep the group company for a bit before he had to travel away. So he would be able to get to know everyone and help keep Hotori safe. It id dandy him that he did not have the freedom of most Seishi to spend all their time fulfilling their duty as the Miko’s protectors. Instead he was cursed to lie this double life and at times, he would not lie, it became boring and meaningless. Noticing figures approaching from the distance, he knew it was his time to have some quality time with their Miko. As soon as Isamu turned to enter the Inn, Meian snatched Hotori from his grasp leading a note on the palm of Isamu’s hand. He had to admit the reaction was priceless. He heard him loud and clear. but he made no sound, he was used to being as silent as a shadow.
Meian smirked as Isamu went back inside, he was standing on the roof alongside Hotori, his hood covered his face as usual and he had taken the dango from Haru’s room. He had left a note saying, “Thank you papa!” And had then gone intercept his Miko so that they could watch the fireworks together. He turned to look at Hotori and said softly, “I hope I did not startle you too much.” He turned to look at her though she probably could not see his face, he then said, “There is something I would like to show you if that is okay with you.” He was looking forward to this, and besides it was only fair he had a proper conversation with the Miko he served, especially due to how peculiar his circumstances were. There was a tower right next tot he Inn so he gently picked her up and said, “Hang on tight.” He then jumped from the Inn’s rooftop to the tower’s edge. He pushed Hotori through to the very top and then he followed suit. He placed a blanked on the tiles for Hotori to sit down and cover herself.
He then said, “It will get colder so I assumed it would be a good idea to bring you a blanket. Feel free to sit down.” He sat next to her, there was no taller building in this village so it would be the best place for them to see the fireworks that were about to start. He then took out the dango and offered her one, “Welcome to Konan, Hotori-chan. The final show is about to begin.” He laughed softly as the fireworks started. He then said, “I wanted us to spend some time alone as I’m aware you might have been baffled at my behaviour earlier. I want to tell you some things about me to appease your curiosity but also assure you I’m a loyal Seishi. Although, I will not tell you enough to get you into trouble. So fear not."
He then ate some of his dango as the fireworks decorated the night sky in different sizes, shapes and colours, “I’m unable to travel like the rest of you do, I have to stick to the shadows but I’ll always come if you ever need me. I will always let you know when I have to leave for a bit and the first person I’ll notify of my return will be you. I’ll keep in touch through letters, I have a falcon friend called Aka, you will receive every message though my feathered friend but tell no one of this.” He finished his dango with a smile as the fireworks continued and he gently removed the hood so that Hotori could look at her Seishi for a little while.
Haru was momentarily surprised to find Shouri crying when he came to check on her. Hotori had seemed so calm as she navigated this world, that it startled him that Shouri was having such a hard time. Then again, people were vastly different in his world, so why should theirs be any different? It moved him to see her so upset, and although it had been a long time since he had to comfort a crying girl - his sisters were both grown and married with their own children, so he was not their first choice for protector any longer - he adjusted quickly. Pulling out a handkerchief, he offered it to her and took a step forward. “I’m not really your brother, but I can offer you a hug, if it would help…”
He listened to her story, and frowned slightly. “You saw the symbol for Star? Strange, that’s a symbol of Suzaku, but our Miko arrived this morning. And besides that, I’ve never heard of a Miko seeing one of the symbols when they arrive…” He had a hunch, but he would have to get a note to Meian - somehow - and see if he had any information. “Shouri-chan, I don’t know what’s going on, or why you were brought here, but I promise you that I’ll help you figure it out. And you can stay with us until we figure out a way to get you back home.”
He rubbed his chin, thinking for a long moment. “I’ve got some books that explain the Miko, the Seishi like me… all of it. I can go get it for you if you think it might help you wrap your mind around all of this. It’s the mythology of my world… I can go get it, and bring you some dinner if you want. I think my Miko is still out at the festival with one of the other Seishi, but when she gets back, I can come get you and let the two of you meet. It might help to talk to someone from your own world.” He gave her his best reassuring smile. “I know this is all a lot. It’s okay to take it as it comes, and it’s okay to cry if you need to.”
He still felt some connection to her, and between her mention of the Star Seishi symbol, and the way his own left palm had a vague tingle… Well, suffice to say it made him wonder.
~~~
(OOC: Going to speed through a lot of the conversation leading up to the dance, not because I don’t love it, but because I don’t want this post to drag on forever, having to have Hotori reply to both Isamu and Meian. LOL)
Hotori smiled brightly. She was really enjoying talking about her world with Isamu. Suddenly she had an idea, and she lit up with excitement. “My phone! I had it in my pocket when I came here. If the battery isn’t dead, or the sand didn’t damage it, I can show you some pictures from my world. I’ve got all kinds on there, of my friends and my aunt, and of our house, and even of some of my favorite places in Tokyo. I had to do a photojournalistic autobiography for one of my classes, and I never deleted all the pictures.” She realized she’d just used a lot of words that would mean nothing to him, and she blushed. “I promise I’ll try and explain everything to you, if my phone still works. If not, maybe I can get some paper and ink, and I can draw some of my friends, and my home for you…”
She blushed a bit darker when he called her ‘Miko-sama’, and told her he was unworthy of bowing to, but she shook her head. “You are a good, kind person, Isamu-kun. That means you are worthy of every bit of respect I can show you.” She ducked her head just a little. “But is there really no way you’ll call me something less formal? I don’t think I’ll ever get used to being called Miko-sama…” Her smile did brighten back up when he said she had done good. She wasn’t sure why, but even the smallest scrap of praise, especially from this man, meant a lot to her. When he mentioned that he used to be a General, her eyes widened. “Wow, really? Generals are so brave, and they have to be really smart too. Then again, I’d already figured out you were brave and smart…” He had shown as much when he was able to think quickly and clearly and get them out of the quicksand pit. “Yes, I’d love to learn whatever you can teach me, especially if it will help me be more helpful with my Seishi,”
She really enjoyed the dance - a first, as she had never danced with a guy before - and she was sad when it was over. Still, she was glad to take his hand and head back for the inn. She was just about to offer to let Isamu come to her room to see if the images on her phone still worked when she felt two hands gently scoop her up under her arms. She gaped softly in surprise, but instantly she sensed Meian, and could tell he was feeling playful. Standing beside him on the roof, she watched Isamu’s reaction to her disappearance, and giggled softly. “You should be ashamed, Meian-nii…” Although there was no real disapproval to her tone. She giggled again softly and held on to him as he took her to the tower, watching as he set things up for them.
“Welcome to Konan, Hotori-chan. The final show is about to begin. I wanted us to spend some time alone as I’m aware you might have been baffled at my behaviour earlier. I want to tell you some things about me to appease your curiosity but also assure you I’m a loyal Seishi. Although, I will not tell you enough to get you into trouble. So fear not."
Hotori wondered for a moment wthat show he could be talking about, as she made herself comfortable, but just as she was abou to ask, the fireworks started, and her eyes lit up for a long moment, looking every bit the excited child. The seriousness of what he had to say drew her attention, and she smiled at him. “Meian-nii, of course I know you are loyal. Tes, I wasn’t sure why you left so quickly, but…I know I can trust you. I can feel that I can.” She placed a hand over her own heart, and hoped he would understand. “I can feel how you and the others feel, if I’m close enough, so I know that you’ll always be there when I need you, like a good big brother.”
Hotori cheerfully began to eat her dango, watching the fireworks happily, although her attention was still on their conversation. She was confused as to why he couldn’t travel with them, but as she said, she trusted him fully. “Aka? Your grid friend. I’ll keep an eye out for notes, and I’ll be sure to send word with you if something happens…I promise.”
When he finally removed his hood, she looked into his eyes and smiled brightly. “You really are my big brother, Meian-nii. You’ve helped me stay out late and eat sweet treats without permission, and you’ve made me feel so very safe and happy.” She then giggled and added with a playful wink. “We’ve even got the same eye color. So that proves it, right?” She leaned over to give him a tight squeeze, and then leaned her head against his shoulder with a tawn as she resumed watching the fireworks. She’d had such a long, dramatic day, but she was happy and felt safe. She missed her aunt and her friends - especially Shoui - so much that it hurt, but the knowledge that she should be able to go home soon to viit made that feeling ease up a bit. Still, she had to stay awake at least until she could get back to her room at the inn. She didn’t want to lose her little phoenix charm, though she had temporarily fastened it to the chain of her locket for safekeeping. Taking a deep breath, she continued watching the fireworks, deciding to talk as she did so she could stay more awake. “Do you have any family, Meian-nee? Any siblings that are really yours?”

Shouri took a deep breath and gratefully took the handkerchief that Haru offered her. "Thank you," she said in a strained voice. She dabbed at her eyes and tried to collect herself a bit more as he spoke. "Oh, uh...thank you, Haru-kun, but...I think this whole situation just caught up with me at once. Thank you very much for the offer, but I think a hug would be a little awkward for both of us right now." She added a nervous laugh, to show that no offense was taken. She would like a hug, but from someone she had known for much longer.
Her own situation seemed an anomaly to what usually happened. This world was so strange. And that was the major part of it. "I think books would help, thank you. I love to read. I think part of the reason this is overwhelming me is that a lot of the information I've been getting is so...inconsistent. Girls from another world come here somehow, to be a miko for something called Suzaku, but not me somehow, and there are people called Seishi, and..." She sighed and nodded. "I haven't had the chance to wrap my head around any of it. And...dinner would be amazing, too." She beamed up at him for the offer. A book and food would cheer her up and help her out all at once.

OOC: No worries dear
IC:
”My phone! I had it in my pocket when I came here. If the battery isn’t dead, or the sand didn’t damage it, I can show you some pictures from my world. If not, maybe I can get some paper and ink, and I can draw some of my friends, and my home for you…”
“Tokyo… is that your home?” Isamu experienced a mixture of awe and surprise. Most of the jargon she used was unknown to him or anyone from this world for that matter. So he did not feel like a wretched fool for not understanding. Part of him was entranced by these words he could not identify and part of him was embarrassed. He did blush slightly but he smiled at the promise of an explanation. He could hardly wait for Hotori to explain everything to him so that he could learn about the world she came from. It was such a fascinating concept and he knew that probably most people would be interested in what she had to say but, for now, he would enjoy this bit of information and maybe it would prove useful at some point. Perhaps some of these innovations could make the lives of the people of Konan easier or it could improve the way of life. He wondered about all these things and he said softly, “I look forward to learning all about a phone and pictures, and whatever you wish to tell me of.” He smiled down at her for a brief moment. He then said, “You can draw? I look forward to seeing your talent.” His Miko was proving to be more interesting by the minute. It was as if she were able to do anything she set her mind to and these days it was hard coming across someone with such strong determination.
“You are a good, kind person, Isamu-kun. That means you are worthy of every bit of respect I can show you… But is there really no way you’ll call me something less formal? I don’t think I’ll ever get used to being called Miko-sama…”
Isamu rubbed the back of his head, he truly was not used to being informal with anyone, with the exception of his friend Hanzo but that was different, he was like a brother to him as they grew up together and faced the same challenges. “Forgive me Mik- I mean, Hotori-s…” He looked away in embarrassment, “I shall do my best to please you, I’m just not used to it.” He had to do better in order to ensure his Miko felt truly comfortable by his side. But he would have to get practicing if he wanted to achieve that.
“Wow, really? Generals are so brave, and they have to be really smart too. Then again, I’d already figured out you were brave and smart… Yes, I’d love to learn whatever you can teach me, especially if it will help me be more helpful with my Seishi,”
When Hotori praised him he blushed deeply and his eyes opened wide for a brief moment. He looked away rubbing the back of his head, “I… I’m not that amazing.” He looked down but smiled, “Maybe one day I could get you to meet someone who became a General just like me, he is like a brother to me although now he travels the kingdoms a talented bard.” He was not sure why he as sharing this about his past but he felt comfortable with Hotori for some reason.
Once in his room, Isamu looked at some maps, he had a quick letter sent to his contact about the ceramic puppet workshop and then decided to plan some things on their way to the Palace. He wanted Hotori to travel comfortably and he wants dot have a plan ready for when Haru returned to speak to him.

“You should be ashamed, Meian-nii…”
Meian smirked and then said, “You have no idea.” He then grinned and felt like teasing his little sister Miko, “I’m sorry for interrupting your date, I have to say you both moved fast. You only just met.” He winked at Hotori and smiled warmly. He was very good at teasing others, he did it to his family back at Hokkan all the time, even his mother. He truly had no shame. “Do not worry, I won’t tell a soul.” He chuckled playfully.
”Meian-nii, of course I know you are loyal. Yes, I wasn’t sure why you left so quickly, but…I know I can trust you. I can feel that I can… I can feel how you and the others feel, if I’m close enough, so I know that you’ll always be there when I need you, like a good big brother.”
Meian smiled at her, she truly had a big heart. “I… think I understand. I will always protect you, you are a wonderful person Hotori-chan so I must protect you to the best of my ability, besides what kind of a brother would I be if I did not? Which also means, I will keep an eye on Isamu until I die my approval.” He was teasing her again but he could not help it, “Has anyone told you, you are incredibly adorable when you blush Hotori-chan?” He was intrigued by her, she had managed to make the Ice Knight lower his guard and he still did not understand how she managed to do so. “You know, he was a well-known General, and he earned the name of Ice Knight and together with the Dragon Knight they were a force to be reckoned with.”
“Aka? Your grid friend. I’ll keep an eye out for notes, and I’ll be sure to send word with you if something happens…I promise.”
He smiled at her and then said, “Thank you, Hotori-chan.” He then looked up at the fireworks, “Lets just say I have work to do thanks to the mistakes of my father and until that is settled, I cannot devote all my time to Konan and its Miko. But I will always do my best to help in any way possible.” He closed his eyes for a moment in order to enjoy the cool breeze. He did not have moments as peaceful as these in his life, he wished he did. He then turned to look at her for a moment and decided on telling her about a big secret of his so that she knew another reason he could not help the directly. It was bound to be discovered so he would rather not have her worry about him, “Also, I’m in a bit of a pickle and lets just say that whenever I directly help anyone from the Suzaku group or any Seishi or Miko in the four kingdoms, I am cursed to feel great pain. So I need to act in the shadows, I’m done hiding and not doing anything about it. Water the consequences, I will still devote myself to your group and to you Hotori-chan. But as my Miko I thought it right to let you know first and foremost.”
“You really are my big brother, Meian-nii. You’ve helped me stay out late and eat sweet treats without permission, and you’ve made me feel so very safe and happy… We’ve even got the same eye color. So that proves it, right?”
Meian smiled happily and when Hotori leaned her head on his shoulder he ensured she was covered with the blanket so she would not get cold, “Yes, I’ll always be here to spoil you rotten, to tase you when need be, to chastise you when you are being silly and to protect you when you are in danger.” He playfully rubbed the top of her hair like a bog brother would and then embraced her as they watched the fireworks, “I’m always here for you Hotori-chan.”
“Do you have any family, Meian-nee? Any siblings that are really yours?”
“I do, I have a younger sister who is the best artist I have ever known, she is so talented I every little cut thing she does, her blindness does not stop her, she is the most amazing person I know. And then there is my older brother, he is your typical stoic and moody Crown Prince so its so much fun to tease him.” He laughed.
“Whenever you wish to go back to your room say the word, I might as well introduce myself to the gang so they do not think there is a ghost amongst the Seishi.” He smirked.

Haru gave her a smile. “I like hugs, but I don’t want you to feel awkward. I’ll go get those books and send up some dinner,” With one last smile, he slipped out of the room. He went to the front desh immediately, and asked his sister to take some food, and some hot tea to help Shouri relax a bit. Just as he was about to turn to get the books he’d mentioned, his mother spoke up and told him that Isamu had returned, but without Hotori. Confused, and a little concerned, by this news, he rushed to get his books and take them to Shouri, knocking softly before entering and placing several books on the small table in her room. “I've got to go talk to one of the other Seishi. but he’s just down the hall from here. If you need anything, just step out in the hall and clal for me. Food should be here soon. ”
With that taken care of, he let himself out once more and moved to Isamu’s room, Knocking at the door. Once it was opened, he frowned slightly. “Where’s Hotori? Did something happen?"He then thought about it a bit more. If Isamu had lost her in the crowd, or something like that, he would not have returned to the inn without tracking her down. That meant that she was somewhere safe, but not with Isamu. He sighed and shook his head as he confirmed a suspicion. “Meian?”

I’m sorry for interrupting your date, I have to say you both moved fast. You only just met. Do not worry, I won’t tell a soul.”
Hotori blushed darkly, and playfully smacked his shoulder. “Don’t say things like that! It wasn’t a date!” SHe blushed even more, ducking her head slightly in embarassment. “Isamu-kun was just trying to help me feel better and to let me have some fun before we have to start doing the hard, scary stuff…” She smiled a little. “Mot that I’m scared, with all of you to protect me. I just hope I‘m able to help, and not be too useless while we travel.”
“I… think I understand. I will always protect you, you are a wonderful person Hotori-chan so I must protect you to the best of my ability, besides what kind of a brother would I be if I did not? Which also means, I will keep an eye on Isamu until I die my approval. Has anyone told you, you are incredibly adorable when you blush Hotori-chan? You know, he was a well-known General, and he earned the name of Ice Knight and together with the Dragon Knight they were a force to be reckoned with.”
Hototi blushed again when he mentioned having to approve of Isamu. “Meian-nii…” Still, she could tell he was teasing her just to make her blush. She blushed even more, but laughed when he admitted to making her blush on purpose. “Yeah, Isamu-kun said something like that, and Haru-kun’s mother, Mihana-san. I don’t know why everyone likes it so much…” She calmed a bit as she sat there watching the fireworks and listening as he turned the conversation back to Isamm but with less teasing. “He mentioned that to me this afternoon. I was really surprised. He’s so young, but he was already a General? I told him I knew that meant he was strong and brave, and a good man. He used his ice powers to help rescue me from those men, bu…I wonder why he stopped being a general. I hope it wasn’t just so he could come to protect me as the Miko…” She didn’t want anyone to have to give up their way of life, or put themselves in danger for her.
“Thank you, Hotori-chan. Lets just say I have work to do thanks to the mistakes of my father and until that is settled, I cannot devote all my time to Konan and its Miko. But I will always do my best to help in any way possible. Also, I’m in a bit of a pickle and lets just say that whenever I directly help anyone from the Suzaku group or any Seishi or Miko in the four kingdoms, I am cursed to feel great pain. So I need to act in the shadows, I’m done hiding and not doing anything about it. Water the consequences, I will still devote myself to your group and to you Hotori-chan. But as my Miko I thought it right to let you know first and foremost.”
Hotori gasped, looking up at him with wide, concerned eyes. “You mean every time you help us, it hurts you? Did…Did it hurt you, when you helped me by bringing me here?” She leaned over and wrapped both arms around him in a hug. “Please don’t do anything to cause yourself pain. I wouldn’t want you to hurt because of me. Isn’t there any way to break the curse?” She sniffled a bit, and hugged him a bit tighter. “I promise that I’ll help you break the curse and get out from under your father’s shadow. You are too good and kind to be in such trouble.” She stretched up to kiss his cheek in a manner similar to how Yori always did, though she didn’t know that. “I promise, even if I have to use one of my wishes, I’ll help you.”
“Yes, I’ll always be here to spoil you rotten, to tase you when need be, to chastise you when you are being silly and to protect you when you are in danger. I’m always here for you Hotori-chan.”
Hototi laughed and pushed his hand playfully away from her head, but then leaned against him once more. “I’ve never had any brothers or sisters…the closest I’ve got is my best friend Shouri, and her big brother Hajime-kun. He teases like you a lot, but he also says a lot of really silly things sometimes.” She smiled at the memory of her friends back home. “I wish I could introduce them to all of you…”
“I do, I have a younger sister who is the best artist I have ever known, she is so talented I every little cut thing she does, her blindness does not stop her, she is the most amazing person I know. And then there is my older brother, he is your typical stoic and moody Crown Prince so its so much fun to tease him.”
Hotori smiled, listening to him talk about his family. Ah,that’s why you’re such a good big brother, you’ve had practice.“ She giggled. “Your sister is blind? What kind of art does she do? I’d love to meet her someday…” She giggled at his description of his brother . “I can already tell you’re a trickster. Are we sure you’re not really a Tanuki?” She giggled again, but then something he said registered with her, and she gasped, looking up at him. “Your brother is a Crown Prince? That means your sister is a princess? And…and you’re a prince? Oh, I hope I haven’t been too rude. I’ve never met a prince before.” She blushed a bit more. “What did I do to deserve an Empress, a prince, and a general as my Seishi? I really don’t think I'm special enough to deserve all of you…”
“Whenever you wish to go back to your room say the word, I might as well introduce myself to the gang so they do not think there is a ghost amongst the Seishi.”
The fireworks finished with a spectacular bang, and Hotori watched them in awe. She was just about to say she wasn’t tired yet, but she yaned before she could. “Yes, I guess we’d better go back. I bet Isamu-kun has worn holes in the floor pacing and waiting for us, and you’re right, I’d like for you to meet the others.” She stood up. “Thank you for everything, Meian-noo. I think you’re going to be my best friend in this world, since I don’t have Shouri-chan.” She made sure she still had her little Phoenix charm and then nodded tdo indicate she was ready to go.
