OOC: Isamu cameo
IC:
“Where’s Hotori? Did something happen? Meian?”
Isamu had been writing up a schedule to see how long it would take them to reach the Palace and doing a bit of sightseeing on the way when he heard footsteps and knew right away it was Haru, for only he walked with such heavy and yet measured steps. He looked up from the desk as soon as Haru knocked and entered his room. He then heard him speak and nearly smiled at how worried Haru already was, he felt so strongly for their Miko and they only just met. Although, the same could be said about Isamu. He would not admit it, he had to keep the cascade of the Ice Knight to prevent Akhram from targeting anyone in order to get to Isamu. It was not the first or last time he would make use of such villainous plans to force Isamu to confront him. He nearly facepalmed remembering today’s recent events and how Akhram now knew Hotori, his Miko, was here. Her life would not be in danger.
“Yes, that rascal treats her like his little sister.” Isamu smirked and then added, “He probably wanted some alone time with her and to watch the fabled fireworks on the roof.” He could not blame him, after all they would have to be extra vigilant from this night forth. “I was wondering what you thought of taking a slightly scenic route toward the Imperial Palace, to let Hotori-sama enjoy a little of what Konan has to offer and not worry too much about the fact that, despite it being a more peaceful time, her life will still be in danger and we need to gather all the Seishi.”
He looked down at the schedule he had been working on before he added, “Also, I’m afraid we will have to be extra vigilant from tomorrow onwards, a man from my past, I’m ashamed to say, was the reason we were injured. And he knows she is the Suzaku no Miko. He serves Sailo and he is not a good man.” He hoped he got his message across Haru and he understood exactly what he meant. “As unfortunate as that is there is not much we can do but to remain vigilant, that scum has too much power.”
“Don’t say things like that! It wasn’t a date!”
Meian snickered when Hotori smacked his shoulder and then said, “Oh really? But you looked so cute together.” He smirked and then poked her red cheek, “You look like a tomato Hotori-chan!” He was not sure why it was so much fun to tease her but he had to admit it suited her. Not because he thought her silly but rather her innocence and how easily she blushed was absolutely endearing. He smiled warmly at her though and then added, “Do not pout little sister…” he gently tugged at her cheek, “Big brothers always tease their little sisters because they love them and they look adorable when they blush.”
“Isamu-kun was just trying to help me feel better and to let me have some fun before we have to start doing the hard, scary stuff… Not that I’m scared, with all of you to protect me. I just hope I‘m able to help, and not be too useless while we travel.”
Meian looked at Hotori for a moment, he could tell she had genuinely enjoyed the time she spent with Isamu. He only hoped he would keep her safe because that man who attacked them was bad news. Also, if they ever got too close and… No, he simply could not tell her about what plagued his thoughts for it would only bring her deep pain and there was no guarantee that things would escalate. In any case they would cross that bridge when they got there, “That is right, you have the most amazing Seishi and we will all keep you safe. Although, I have a feeling you are one of those little Miko who always end up in trouble.” He smirked and then added, “And that is why you must have the very best Seishi.”
“Meian-nii…Yeah, Isamu-kun said something like that, and Haru-kun’s mother, Mihana-san. I don’t know why everyone likes it so much…”
Meian laughed warmly at her words and then shrugged, “It’s hard to tell. But I think your reactions are quite adorable in general. And it’s very easy to tease you Hotori-chan, you wear your heart on your sleeve.”
“He mentioned that to me this afternoon. I was really surprised. He’s so young, but he was already a General? I told him I knew that meant he was strong and brave, and a good man. He used his ice powers to help rescue me from those men, bu…I wonder why he stopped being a general. I hope it wasn’t just so he could come to protect me as the Miko…”
Meian thought for a moment, when watching him with Hotori he had sensed a darkness of his own. One similar to Meian’s but not of the same kind. He rubbed the back of his head and said, “For what I could gather he had been a travelling bodyguard for a while before you two met today. As for the reasons? Well, you will just have to respect him telling you if and when he is ready. Sometimes things happen that we all do our utmost to forget, to leave behind or even bury inside for sharing it could hurt one’s pride in ways unimaginable.”
“You mean every time you help us, it hurts you? Did…Did it hurt you, when you helped me by bringing me here? Please don’t do anything to cause yourself pain. I wouldn’t want you to hurt because of me. Isn’t there any way to break the curse? I promise that I’ll help you break the curse and get out from under your father’s shadow. You are too good and kind to be in such trouble. I promise, even if I have to use one of my wishes, I’ll help you.”
Meian gasped in deep surprise at her words and how she embraced her for a long moment. He very rarely received any affection, it was mainly from Yori and his beloved mother so this had surprised him greatly. Still, he managed to embrace her back and with one hand he dried her tears, she was crying for him? “I… yes I always feel pain when I help Miko and her Seishi. But, I am also a Seishi and cannot ignore my duty no matter the cost. I cannot dishonour you, the Seishi and myself.” He then caressed her head gently, “I have yet to find a cure, and I have been looking for years.” He blushed slightly at her last words, “You… you would waste a wish on me?” The kiss surprised him even more for it had felt just like… Yori…
“I’ve never had any brothers or sisters…the closest I’ve got is my best friend Shouri, and her big brother Hajime-kun. He teases like you a lot, but he also says a lot of really silly things sometimes. I wish I could introduce them to all of you…”
Meian smirked at Hotori’s words and was about to say something when his senses alerted him of something, “You know? There might be an extra Seishi for you to meet when we return to the Inn. You know, sometimes wishes come true sooner than you would think.” He grinned.
Ah, that’s why you’re such a good big brother, you’ve had practice. Your sister is blind? What kind of art does she do? I’d love to meet her someday… I can already tell you’re a trickster. Are we sure you’re not really a Tanuki? Your brother is a Crown Prince? That means your sister is a princess? And…and you’re a prince? Oh, I hope I haven’t been too rude. I’ve never met a prince before. What did I do to deserve an Empress, a prince, and a general as my Seishi? I really don’t think I'm special enough to deserve all of you…”
Meian laughed softly and blushed lightly, “Only to my well behaved sisters.” He winked at her and then grinned, “And who says I might not be a Tanuki?” He noticed her blush at realising he was a prince and he waved his hand dismissively, “Please, there is no need, I have not let a life that honours such title in any case.” He smiled at her, “I rather you are always yourself around me.”
“Yes, I guess we’d better go back. I bet Isamu-kun has worn holes in the floor pacing and waiting for us, and you’re right, I’d like for you to meet the others.” She stood up. “Thank you for everything, Meian-noo. I think you’re going to be my best friend in this world, since I don’t have Shouri-chan.”
Meian nodded at her and then said, “Whenever you wish to spend some quality time with your big bro I’m always here.” He smirked and then stood with his back toward her and got on one knee, “Please get on, It will be easier and safer to carry you this way back to your room. Although, I will take you to Isamu’s room for I would like to formally introduce myself.” Once Hotori climbed onto his back he descended carefully and finally landed in Isamu’s room, the hood covering his face. He gently set Hotori down and then said. “I suppose I should formally introduce myself before I go back to the shadows. My name is Meian Katsurou, one of your fellow Seishi.”

“Yes, that rascal treats her like his little sister. He probably wanted some alone time with her and to watch the fabled fireworks on the roof.”
Haru laughed at Isamu’s estimation of the situation. “Rascal is one of the nicer terms you could use. I met him a few years ago, and he’s been like a bat, flapping around whenever I can’t see him, and annoying me to boot.” Despite his words, his smile was fond. “Hotori-chan is easy to love. I already care for her the way I do my little sisters. She is so brave and kind, and very cheerful and positive. I honestly don’t know how she does it.”
Haru gave a little half shrug. “I’m fine with that. To be honest, I’m not in a rush to get to the palace, I’m not the most courtly person around.” He grinned at the little joke at his own expense. “I think she would enjoy getting to see the country, and we stand a better chance of finding all of her Seishi by traveling around. It’s a bit of a fluke that we were all so close when she arrived.” That reminded him of how he had spent his afternoon. Since he was talking with Isamu, he may as well bring it up.
“Actually, I had something to bring up with you too. I went out to the Festival this afternoon to pick up a couple of things for Hotori-chan and…well, I ran into someone interesting…” He proceeded to relate the way he had found Shouri, the story she had told him about how she had come here - including seeing the “star” symbol, and how she was dressed in a manner close to how Hotori was gressed when they’d first met her. “I felt…well, some connection to her, the same way I feel one to you or Meisn, but she clearly comes from the same world as Hotori, or one very like it. I have heard rumors of Seishi appearing from another world this time, and with all of the Miko and Seishi being activated this time… Well, who knows? I gave her some books of our mythology, and I told her I would let her meet Hotori when she got back. I thought it would do them both good to be able to relate to someone from their own world…”
“Also, I’m afraid we will have to be extra vigilant from tomorrow onwards. A man from my past, I’m ashamed to say, was the reason we were injured. And he knows she is the Suzaku no Miko. He serves Sailo and he is not a good man. As unfortunate as that is there is not much we can do but to remain vigilant, that scum has too much power.”
Haru frowned, and nodded. He understood what Isamu was trying to tell him. “Fear not, you will not be alone in protecting her from now on, my friend. I assure you that even though the primary function of my power is to heal injuries, I can also use it to cause them. It is not my preference, but I will if that is what it takes to keep Hotori-chan safe. This man will find more than just you standing between him and our Miko.”
“Oh really? But you looked so cute together. You look like a tomato Hotori-chan! Do not pout little sister… Big brothers always tease their little sisters because they love them and they look adorable when they blush. It’s hard to tell. But I think your reactions are quite adorable in general. And it’s very easy to tease you Hotori-chan, you wear your heart on your sleeve.”
Hotori couldn’t help but smile, even as Meian teased her. “I have the feeling you and Haru-kun are going to tease me a lot.” She giggled. “I guess that means I get two big brothers.” She couldn’t explain why, but she already loved and trusted her Seishi. She already regretted the thought that she would have to be seperated from them someday, but surely that was ridiculous. She had only just met them, and it didn’t make sense to be attached already, but she just couldn’t help it.
“That is right, you have the most amazing Seishi and we will all keep you safe. Although, I have a feeling you are one of those little Miko who always end up in trouble. And that is why you must have the very best Seishi.”
Hotori blushed again, thinking about that afternoon with the quicksand. “I didn’t mean to cause trouble. Ipromise to do my best not to get into too much trouble…“ She smiled .”My Aunt Midori said that I was too nice and too curious for my own good, but that I had people to look after me, so I guess that’s true.” She thought about it for a long moment, and then nodded. “I’m going to try to do better about staying out of trouble, though. I’m going to do my best not to worry my friends, and to help keep everyone safe and happy.”
”For what I could gather he had been a travelling bodyguard for a while before you two met today. As for the reasons? Well, you will just have to respect him telling you if and when he is ready. Sometimes things happen that we all do our utmost to forget, to leave behind or even bury inside for sharing it could hurt one’s pride in ways unimaginable.”
She nodded to his words, but didn’t speak. She never had been the type to be nosy about other people's lives and past experiences. She was always curious, but she wasn't the sort to pry into someone’s background for personal information. She never wanted to make others feel uncomfortable, especially her new friends.
“I… yes I always feel pain when I help Miko and her Seishi. But, I am also a Seishi and cannot ignore my duty no matter the cost. I cannot dishonour you, the Seishi and myself. I have yet to find a cure, and I have been looking for years. You… you would waste a wish on me?”
Hotori looked at him, not understanding his amazement. “Waste? It wouldn’t be a waste, Meian-nii. If it would help you, I would do it happily. It wouldn’t be a waste at all. Besides, I get three wishes, right? I wouldn’t need them all for myself…” She gave him another tight squeeze before sitting back with a smile. “Besides, what are little sisters for?”
“You know? There might be an extra Seishi for you to meet when we return to the Inn. You know, sometimes wishes come true sooner than you would think. Only to my well behaved sisters. And who says I might not be a Tanuki? Please, there is no need, I have not let a life that honours such title in any case. I rather you are always yourself around me.”
She didn’t really understand what he meant about another Seishi, and wishes coming true, so instead, she focused on the second half of his words. She gave him a fond smile. “I think you’re too hard on yourself, Meian-nii, And of course I’ll always be myself around. I don’t know how to be anything else.”
“Whenever you wish to spend some quality time with your big bro I’m always here. Please get on, It will be easier and safer to carry you this way back to your room. Although, I will take you to Isamu’s room for I would like to formally introduce myself.”
Hotori nodded. “Yes, I want to spend time with you too. I don’t want to be annoying, but I’ll always be glad for us to do things together.” She blushed a bit when he told her to climb on his back. “You don’t think I’ll be too heavy?” Still, she did as requested, and couldn’t help giggling as they moved. This was so much more exciting than anything she had ever done before. “My big brother is a strong ninja.” She said with another giggle. She was surprised at how quickly they reached Isamu’s room, and she smiled to see both him and Haru talking. She took one of Meian’s hands, a silent way to indicate her support of the mysterious man standing next to her. She wasn’t sure how well either of the others knew him, but she knew they could trust him.
“I suppose I should formally introduce myself before I go back to the shadows. My name is Meian Katsurou, one of your fellow Seishi.”
Haru snorted, but he was grinning. “Yeah, and usually a pain in my -” He looked over at Hotori and decided to change w;hat he’d been going to say. “Coin purse. Don’t think I don’t know about you stealing those cookies my sister made yesterday…” Hotori giggled, hearing this story. For some reason, it didn’t surprise her at all. She then looked at Isamu and gave him a small smile. “I hope you weren't too worried when I disappeared, Isamu-kun…”

Shouri gratefully accepted her meal when it arrived. Haru's mother offered the common room for her to eat it in, but she still wasn't comfortable. She politely declined, but thanked the woman profusely. "I've traveled a long way today, and I'm just...very tired," she said. The woman nodded in an understanding way and backed out of the doorway, explaining a few more things about her room, and that if she needed anything, she need only ask. Shouri sat down to eat finally and began to think as she at the food. She didn't know anything about the lore surrounding this place, but she had a few clues.
The first thing was the book, she was certain of it. It was tucked away in a weird place in the university's library, for one thing. It was written in Chinese. And...the first sentence she read... No, it couldn't be. She chewed on her noodles and sipped her tea. "A golden haired warrior girl opened a book and entered the world in a blaze of red fire..." So much had happened since she had read that sentence that it took her a while to think of it again. But, listening to Haru talk about these things...it sounded like there was a miko...from her world. And a group of people called seishi...warriors. She didn't need reminding that she had golden hair. But she wasn't a warrior, not in the least! But, she did enter this world in a blaze of red fire.
And Hanako had mentioned the "Star" seishi hadn't been re-born in this cycle. And...the character for "Star" had smacked her in the face when she came here.
She found herself tapping her fingers on the table nervously, wishing she had paper and a pen. Or at least Haru to talk this out with, now that it was all clicking into place. And who was that other girl from her world?
Her stomach growled appreciatively. She sighed. She continued eating.

“I have the feeling you and Haru-kun are going to tease me a lot…I guess that means I get two big brothers.”
Meian smirked at Hotori’s words, “Oh I will tease you alright. However papá Haru is a whole other level of tease, should he suspect you have a crush you best be ready to accept the consequences.” He laughed, Haru was truly a likeable person and even though he constantly took their baked goods he did ensure to leave money or something in exchange as he did not want to appear rude to Haru’s family. He was quite fond of the Seishi and his family and it never escaped him when Haru’s mother or sister would make extra food and leave it by the window for him whenever Meian was in Konan. It warmed his heart to know there were people who were fond of him, it made his life a bit more whole than if he had been a lonely assassin all his life. Still, he wished at times that he could show himself to his family, interact with them and even help them around but the more people that knew his identity the worse it would be for Meian. The Fiend would have more people to threaten in the event that he decided to stop working for them and even the bands of assassins could capture them to lure him into a trap. It had happened before and he could not let this come to pass once more. And since he was fond of the Seishi and his family, he would protect them from the underworld. Looking into Hotori’s eyes now, though, he knew well that as much as he would like to hang out with this group of people openly as one of the Seishi he would have to limit himself to moments such as these and hope that Hotori could not mind. He did not want to get anyone in trouble by being seen publicly with them. Besides, he was an assassin, a well known one. That made him a wanted man and, as such, he could not go about parading in town as many people did. He resented that but it was his lot and he did not have a say on the kind of life he wanted, thanks to his dear old father. Still, this was not the time or place for such dark thoughts.
“I didn’t mean to cause trouble. Ipromise to do my best not to get into too much trouble… My Aunt Midori said that I was too nice and too curious for my own good, but that I had people to look after me, so I guess that’s true… I’m going to try to do better about staying out of trouble, though. I’m going to do my best not to worry my friends, and to help keep everyone safe and happy.”
Meian smirked and then bent his index finger on his thumb and released it as a gentle poke on Hotori’s forehead, “Hey, Hotori-chan, stop having silly little thoughts that do not suit you. There would be no fun if all your Celestial WArriors had nothing to do but to sit around next to you and stare at the sky. Although your company is quite lovely, I don’t want to hear any thoughts pertaining to guilt, only cute embarrassment and joy are allowed.” He then wondered how ticklish she was and aimed to tickle her neck and the side of her belly just to prove his point. He smirked, he had come to enjoy himself too much in her company. She really reminded him of Yori. It was a scary and surprising thought, but one he welcomed nonetheless. “Just make sure not to talk to many strangers and not to introduce yourself as the Miko, it would only put you in danger and we don’t want your sightseeing cut short after all the effort Isamu-san put on it. He then smiled and added, “Of course, if you are ever upset do let us know, we wish to help you as much as possible.” She walked a hard path, the least they could do was make it as enjoyable for her as possible.
“Waste? It wouldn’t be a waste, Meian-nii. If it would help you, I would do it happily. It wouldn’t be a waste at all. Besides, I get three wishes, right? I wouldn’t need them all for myself… Besides, what are little sisters for?”
Meian was truly speechless. And he did not even know how to react to her words. Still he turned to look at her and said, “You do not understand, perhaps for you it is the most natural thing to do. But for a wanted man like me, who knows the pain of being unable to be with those I love… I’m used to the hate, to the silent shoulder and to being ignored. People go about their everyday life happily while I stick to the shadows and watch them from afar, like a prisoner NPC in a story spun by a very sarcastic author.” He then stared into her eyes so that he would get her meaning, “That is why your words are greatly unexpected and yet give me hope that such a word that I watch from afar might, one day, become mine to enjoy like everyone else does.”
“I think you’re too hard on yourself, Meian-nii, And of course I’ll always be myself around. I don’t know how to be anything else.”
Meian blushed lightly at her words and rubbed the back of his head, “Geeze, you are beginning to sound like my big brother.” He laughed and then said, “I’ll do my best but, I’m afraid I have done some terrible things in the past and hope that does not dissuade you otherwise.”
“Yes, I want to spend time with you too. I don’t want to be annoying, but I’ll always be glad for us to do things together… You don’t think I’ll be too heavy? My big brother is a strong ninja.”
Meian laughed wholeheartedly when Hotori asked if she would not be too heavy for him to carry her, “Please, what kind of man do you take me to? Besides, you are one of the most slender and slim people I have ever seen. You won’t weigh anything at all.” He then allowed her to get comfortable before he went back into Isamu’s room. He smirked at her last words, “You are not too far off, youknow?” He was a man of shadows but he was still surprised at how clever Hotori was. “Clever little girl.” Her laughter was contagious but he wanted to be silent in case they should attract too much attention to themselves, after all, they were not the only guests at the Inn.
“Yeah, and usually a pain in my -Coin purse. Don’t think I don’t know about you stealing those cookies my sister made yesterday…”
Meian smirked and walked over to Haru placing his arms around his neck, “What exactly do you mean papa? I always leave a contribution and besides, your family always makes extra food when they know I’m in town. What kind of a person would I be to let such delicious food go to waste? And those cookies, well, are an all-time favourite of mine.” He then moved to lean his back against the darkest wall in case anyone saw them, just to protect them all, he turned to look at the men and said, “Should we introduce Hotori-chan to her other Seishi then? I sensed her when you brought her to the Inn papa.” He eyed Haru with a grin. He looked at their faces and then said, “Yes, I see you have questions and I would love to give you the information that you seek, but it might as well be with everyone gathered here, I cannot show myself for too long.” He gave Haru a meaningful glance. He was a wanted man after all.

“Rascal is one of the nicer terms you could use. I met him a few years ago, and he’s been like a bat, flapping around whenever I can’t see him, and annoying me to boot.”
Isamu could not stop himself from smirking at his words, ever so slightly and almost unnoticeable. “Men like him live in the shadows, I’m surprised you have been able to interact with him at all. He must really like you and your family, despite teasing you so.” He had yet to meet Meian-san but he found it hard to be angry at the young man for he could sense a darkness in him and yet, he came all this way to protect his Miko and was as close to the group as he could under his circumstances. It was true that he had yet to meet him but, as a man who had been exposed to a darkness of his own, he could tell the similarities and the honour in his heart to become as much of a Seishi for his Miko as he can be. Isamu and Haru and the remaining Seishi would do the rest, of course he had known of Seishi that only looked for their own gain and did not care for their fellow Seishi or their Miko, but Miean felt different and the greatest proof was him taking Hotori to see fireworks, “So far, we have a good group of Seishi and all our powers will come in handy, we must make sure, however, that Hotori-sama does not let others know she is the Miko and so I believe it would be a good idea to make her appear a natie to Konan by teaching her all we can about customs and traditions.” Albeit Akhram already knew she was there and that was probably the worst thing possible.
“Hotori-chan is easy to love. I already care for her the way I do my little sisters. She is so brave and kind, and very cheerful and positive. I honestly don’t know how she does it.”
He did realise that, since his meeting with Hotori, he had felt more alive and it scared him some. He had spent all these years protecting himself against any emotional attachments to others due to the bitter incidents in his past and now this young woman had come into his life and turned it upside down. And he had been powerless to stop her. It looked like she had already made her home in the hearts of Haru and Meian. He nodded for a moment but stopped himself from making a personal comment on the matter. He had been a General for crying out loud, if he could not keep his cool at such a time how could he lead the group and protect the Miko? He then said, “We have a good natured Miko with a compassionate heart, and that is the more reason to be careful, unfortunately not everyone will approach her with good intentions. Especially if they find out who she is. At this very moment she is the most important person in the whole of Konan. And unfortunately some of our enemies already know this.”
“I’m fine with that. To be honest, I’m not in a rush to get to the palace, I’m not the most courtly person around… I think she would enjoy getting to see the country, and we stand a better chance of finding all of her Seishi by traveling around. It’s a bit of a fluke that we were all so close when she arrived.”
Isamu’s face softened for a moment at his words and nodded, “To be fair, I cannot judge you Haru-san, I used to sere Konan as a General but that was years ago, I decided that I could do far more for the innocent and less fortunate on my own than simply following orders. It is what it is.” He then showed Haru the map for the route that he had planned, “So I was thinking that as long as we do not draw too much attention to ourselves we could visit some of the provinces and make inquiries regarding the other Seishi. I have a network in Konan we could use to our advantage and I believe so does Meian, to a certain degree.” He then added, “It should also grant us the opportunity of notifying the Empress of our coming to the capital without barging in unannounced, you know, formalities and all.” He was not looking forward to going back to the capital due to his past, but he would do what was best for the Miko and that entailed being in the safest place possible until they knew for sure what her other Seishi were.
“Actually, I had something to bring up with you too. I went out to the Festival this afternoon to pick up a couple of things for Hotori-chan and…well, I ran into someone interesting… I felt…well, some connection to her, the same way I feel one to you or Meisn, but she clearly comes from the same world as Hotori, or one very like it. I have heard rumors of Seishi appearing from another world this time, and with all of the Miko and Seishi being activated this time… Well, who knows? I gave her some books of our mythology, and I told her I would let her meet Hotori when she got back. I thought it would do them both good to be able to relate to someone from their own world…”
Isamu looked up at Haru noticing the change in his voice, this would be a serious subject and so, in order to grant him the time to speak he turned to look at the window as he took a couple of steps forth to feel the wind caress his face. He took in every word and the whole explanation and he could not deny the fact that he was baffled, “A Seishi from the Miko’s world?” She definitely was not the Miko for he had seen the light shining within Hotori and it wasn’t similar to the light that envelops a Seishi when they make use of their magic skills. No, this has to be a Seishi but how? This had never happened before. “Would it be possible to have a word with her? Although, perhaps Meian-san knows something we do not, the lady must be surprised to find herself a Seishi in a land she does not know, perhaps we should have a word with her and once Hotori returns, introduce them.”
He knew then that he could trust in Haru, he was a strong man and his loe for Hotori and conviction had no equal. He took a couple of steps forth until he found he could place his right hand on the man’s shoulder, “I greatly appreciate knowing that. But I need you to promise me something, this rivalry is no triviality, should something happen and I should fall, you will take command and finish gathering the Seishi and protect Hotori-sama as the most precious thing in your lives.” His eyes glistened in the dark of night and he hoped the man understood he was being serious. Akhram wanted him dead, he tried to break him years ago but apparently that was not enough for him, it felt like his grudge with Isamu went back to their ancestors for some reason for he know suspected that Akhram’s family had ordered the destruction of his home and family and now the son would not rest until Isamu was dead.
“I suppose I should formally introduce myself before I go back to the shadows. My name is Meian Katsurou, one of your fellow Seishi.”
“Yeah, and usually a pain in my -Coin purse. Don’t think I don’t know about you stealing those cookies my sister made yesterday…”
Isamu examined the young man that returned their Miko safe and sound. He could see a deep sorrow in his eyes and he sensed much more but he respected him and would not pry. Maybe one day he would confide in them and they would be able to help him. He nodded at his introduction and then watched his antiques with slight amusement as the young Seishi placed an arm around Haru’s shoulders.
“What exactly do you mean papa? I always leave a contribution and besides, your family always makes extra food when they know I’m in town. What kind of a person would I be to let such delicious food go to waste? And those cookies, well, are an all-time favourite of mine… Should we introduce Hotori-chan to her other Seishi then? I sensed her when you brought her to the Inn papa… Yes, I see you have questions and I would love to give you the information that you seek, but it might as well be with everyone gathered here, I cannot show myself for too long.”
Isamu smirked at Meian’s words, “So you could sense the new Seishi? I see you might confirm our suspicions. The best thing to do would be to have her brought to this room, it's the safest with the candle light on and the window does not overlook the main street.”
“I hope you weren't too worried when I disappeared, Isamu-kun…”
Isamu blushed lightly at her words and rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment, “Well, I knew Meian-san had taken you and he is a Seishi so I knew you were in safe hands. I hope you enjoyed the fireworks.” His eyes stared deeply into her own hoping that he had been right and Meian had been good company.

OOC: Going to skip to the part where they’re in Isamu’s room, mostly because I’m running on very little sleep, and that gets us to the sort of action packed part. lol
IC: “What exactly do you mean papa? I always leave a contribution and besides, your family always makes extra food when they know I’m in town. What kind of a person would I be to let such delicious food go to waste? And those cookies, well, are an all-time favorite of mine…” Haru grumped good naturedly. “Tes, and they’re also a favorite of mine…” Still, he couldn’t help smiling at the yunge man. “I do wish you wouldn’t call me Papa. If I had children as badly behaved as you, I’d sell them to the traveling carnivals. Oly Hotori-chan would be a well behaved little girl for Papa…”
Hotori giggled. “My big brother and my new Papa. Who knew I would get a family as soon as I came here…”
”Should we introduce Hotori-chan to her other Seishi then? I sensed her when you brought her to the Inn papa… Yes, I see you have questions and I would love to give you the information that you seek, but it might as well be with everyone gathered here, I cannot show myself for too long.”
“So you could sense the new Seishi? I see you might confirm our suspicions. The best thing to do would be to have her brought to this room, it's the safest with the candle light on and the window does not overlook the main street.”
Hotori frowned . “Another Seishi is here? Who is it?” She then had a thought, and giggled.. “And we know where the Empress is, so that means that I’ve already found four of my Seishi. Just three more and I’ll be done. No one in the story book had that easy of a time.”
Haru nodded to Isamu’s idea. “Agreed. I’ll go get Shouri-san, and once I get back with her, I’ll stand in the window so anyone who comes by can see inside.”
Hotori’s eyes widened dramatically. Something Meian had said clicked in her brasin, and she turned to Haru, latching onto his arm, almost pleading. “Shouri? Shouri-chan is here? Which room is she in?”
Haru frowned slightly. “The girl I found is in the room across from yours, but we don’t know -” He didn’t get to finish his statement, as Hotori spun and bolted from the room. She stood in the hallway for just a moment to orient herself before she spotted the room Haru had indicated and ran to the door. “Shouri-chan?!” She twisted the knob and shoved the door open without even knocking - a rarity for her - and stood in the doorway for a moment, looking at the other young woman. Even dressed as differently from usual as she was, Hotori recognized her best friend instantly. She was surprised to see a faint red aura around her as she had the others, and she could see the symbol “Star”. She sensed confusion and sadness coming from her best friend, and that got her frr to moving faster than anything else. “Shouri! It is you!” That said, she darted forward again, throwing her arms around her best friend in a tight hug, not even caring that she nearl tackled the other young woman.
Meanwhile, in Isamu’s room, Haru was shocked by this behavior from his usually obedient Miko. Stepping out into the hall, he was able to witness most of the encounter between the two. “I think it’s safe to say they’ve already met…” He mused aloud. He came to stand in Shouri’s open doorway. “Hotori-chan… Isamu-san wanted us to meet in his room, remember? Because it’s safer…” Despite his earlier complaints about the nickname, he did - at that moment at least - sound a lot like a father gently chastising his child.

Shouri impatiently began to flip through the books that Haru had given her to read. Her mind was absolutely racing now. Was she a seishi? It didn't seem to make sense, according to the books, now that she was reading them. The seishi were born under the signs of whatever constellation they gained power from or something. And she now knew that Suzaku was the patron god of Konan, which was the empire she had landed in, but...how had an outsider come to be the Star seishi, if that were true? She was just about to start searching the room for pen and paper again when she heard a familiar voice that made her head spin and her heart stop. A girl who sounded an awful lot like Hotori was calling her name. Instead of making her excited enough to open the door, she stood up from the bed, now littered with texts and tomes, and she froze.
The door burst open, and her best friend in the whole world stood there, for all the world as emotional as she felt to see her. She ran forward and embraced Shouri, despite some gentle protests from friends that Shouri didn't care to process. "Hotori-chan..." she said, wrapping her arms around the other girl. Tears came to her eyes for the second time that day, but for very different reasons. These were happy and relieved tears. "I thought I was here by myself!" she admitted. All that fear and loneliness she had accidentally unleashed on poor Haru was likely from times before she had met Hotori. Without her again, in this strange place...
But, they were together again! Shouri sniffed and blinked before pulling back. It finally clicked that Haru was speaking. "Oh...okay, yeah." If these people were going to be her companions in protecting Hotori, she could trust them. She followed Haru into the other room, still holding onto Hotori the whole time. When it was deemed safer, she turned to her friend again. "So...I guess that makes you the miko of Suzaku. I don't know how, but it looks like I'm a seishi. I swear I'll be the best seishi ever!" she said, half-joking with a sigh of relief and laughter. She hugged Hotori again, almost not believing she was there.

OOC: Meian cameo
IC: “Yes, and they’re also a favourite of mine… I do wish you wouldn’t call me Papa. If I had children as badly behaved as you, I’d sell them to the travelling carnivals. Only Hotori-chan would be a well behaved little girl for Papa…”
Meian smirked at Haru and then said, “I don’t believe you. Besides, you have known me for how long? And you never sold me to any travelling carnivals so you must still love your mischievous boy.” He grinned and added, “Besides, Hotori-chan might be a well behaved little girl but she has a knack for getting into trouble.” He winked at Hotori and rubbed the top of her head like an affectionate big brother, “Someone has to look after his little sister.” Despite the little show he put on with Haru, he deeply respected the older Seishi and his family and if they were ever in need of anything he was always the first person to volunteer to help, needless to say, if anyone threatened them or their safety he would also protect them. Haru and his family offered him shelter, homemade food and understanding despite the way of life he was thrown into. If his father hadn’t taken him away from the Palace in Hokkan, away from his mother and siblings, he would be leading a very different life and he would not be forced to live in the shadows in the form of vengeance. It was also one of the reasons he never drew any attention to himself in Konan, that way no one would target this Inn or the people in it.
Isamu could not help but to smirk at Meian’s antiques and how everyone truly behaved like a family, it was bizarre but homey at the same time, last time he felt like part of a family had been… aeons ago. It felt strange but comforting and he could not deny having Hotori as a Miko was a truly wonderful thing. She was a respectful and kind young woman and she also knew about the Four Kingdoms, which meant she was very smart because not many people from her world knew about this before they were thrown into the book. The group of Seishi was also astounding, they were all devoted to Hotori and her well-being and their skills all converged.
“My big brother and my new Papa. Who knew I would get a family as soon as I came here…”
Meian grinned and then whispered in her ear, “And your first crush?” He turned to look at Isamu for a moment hoping she would get the hint. He would neer tease her openly, it would be borderline evil, but no one would hear them from there and he truly enjoyed making her blush, like any big brother would. Isamu noticed the conspiratorial glance form Meian and was ont sure why he felt his cheeks redden. What was the old rascal telling Hotori? He rubbed the back of his neck before saying, “We are all here for you Hotori, to guide and protect you. You can always count on us.”
“Another Seishi is here? Who is it? And we know where the Empress is, so that means that I’ve already found four of my Seishi. Just three more and I’ll be done. No one in the story book had that easy of a time.”
Isamu nodded, “Haru-san found her while we were…” for some reason he blushed lightly remembering the dance and then made a quick comeback saying, “At the fair, I had been planning our trip to the capital and have yet to meet her though.”
Meian then added, “And she comes from your world Hotori-chan, this is something that has been happening in all four kingdoms, one Seishi comes from the world of the Miko.”
“Agreed. I’ll go get Shouri-san, and once I get back with her, I’ll stand in the window so anyone who comes by can see inside.”
“Shouri? Shouri-chan is here? Which room is she in?”
“The girl I found is in the room across from yours, but we don’t know -”
“Shouri-chan?!”
Meian smirked and playfully elbowed Haru on the side, “Well behaved little girl you said eh papa?” He moved to sit on the table as it was the darkest part of the room and then allowed Hotori the privacy to greet her friend. Or at least he supposed she was her friend due to her outburst. He then watched as Isamu leaned his back on a wall, although looking relaxed he was pretty much alert should anything happen, he folded his arms across his chest he did not wish to come as stern and allowed the ladies a few minutes.
“Shouri! It is you!”
“I think it’s safe to say they’ve already met… Hotori-chan… Isamu-san wanted us to meet in his room, remember? Because it’s safer…”
Isamu nearly smirked at how, despite his previous comments to Meian, he still behaved like a fatherly figure. The way Hotori and Shouri interacted reminded him of his friendship with Hanzo and he wondered how his old friend was fairing. He had to write him a letter as soon as he was able.

OOC: sorry guys. I meant to post on this and my other group thread yesterday, but I hadn't slept well, plus a headache most of the day, so it ended up not happening. I'll do better in the future. promise. <3
IC:
“I don’t believe you. Besides, you have known me for how long? And you never sold me to any travelling carnivals so you must still love your mischievous boy. Besides, Hotori-chan might be a well behaved little girl but she has a knack for getting into trouble. Someone has to look after his little sister.”
Haru snorted. “The only reason I haven’t sold you is because you travel more than the carnivals…” He smiled though. Despite his words, he was very fond of Meian. He did not understand the younger man’s behavior sometimes - he didn’t know his story, and didn’t feel it his place to ask - but he knew hw trusted him, especially with Hotori.
Hotori blushed. “I told you I don’t mean to get into trouble…” Still, she smiled fondly at Meian. She had never had a brother, but he reminded her of how Shouri interacted with Hajime sometimes, and that made her feel like she was right when she instinctively thought of him as her big brother.
“And your first crush?"
"We are all here for you Hotori, to guide and protect you. You can always count on us.”
Hotori blushed even darker, though her eyes followed his to Isamu. “Meian-nii…” She whispered, sounding embarrassed. She heard Isamu, and blushed a bit more, like a child who had been caught red-handed. Still, she smiled at Isamu, her voice full of conviction. “I know I can count on you, Isamu-kun. And Haru-kun, and Meian-nii too, I really am so lucky to have all of you here.”
Haru smirked at Meian, but said nothing. It was clear to him - and he suspected that Meian could see it as well - that there was already more than trust blossoming between the Miko and the former General. Still, he would wait to tease her for now. After all, someone would have to when Meian wasn’t around…
“Haru-san found her while we were… At the fair, I had been planning our trip to the capital and have yet to meet her though.”
“And she comes from your world Hotori-chan, this is something that has been happening in all four kingdoms, one Seishi comes from the world of the Miko.”
Haru was a bit surprised to hear that. “It has? I wonder what that means, then. It’s never happened before…” He considered for a moment. “I’ll have to get that book back from Shouri-san, and check something…”
”Well behaved little girl you said eh papa?”
"Hotori-chan… I thought I was here by myself!"
Haru shook his head. “It has to be your influence. She was very well behaved before she spent time with you.”
When he followed Hotori into the other room, he saw the book he’d wanted was one of the ones Shouri had yet to flip through. Picking it up, he waited to show the girls back to the other room, then took his place standing in the window as he had said he would, and started looking through the book.
Hotori held her friend tightle, a few tears also silling down her cheeks. “I thought I wouldn’t get to see you for ages and ages! But now you get to be here with me, and we get to share this adventure together…”
“Oh...okay, yeah. So...I guess that makes you the miko of Suzaku. I don't know how, but it looks like I'm a seishi. I swear I'll be the best seishi ever!"
Hotori smiled. “Yes, I am the Miko. It’s already been such a strange adventure. and now I get to share it with you.” She giggled. “I’ve got all the best seishi already…” A thought occurred to her, and she pulled away from the tight embrace, taking Shoui by the hand and leading her around the room to each of the three men. “Shouri, this is Haru-kun…although I think you two have already met. He can heal injuries, and he fixed some injuries I got when some men attacked me earlier.” She moved next to Isamu. “This is Isamu-kun.” A very faint blush. “He can control ice. He rescued me from some men that attacked me…and then from some quicksand…” She blushed a bit more. That really did make it sound like she had a knack for getting into trouble. She then moved to Meian. “And this is Meian-nii…” She thought for a moment. “I don’t know what his powers are yet, but..." She thought for a moment about how best to describe Meian. "He's basically Batman." She giggled at her own description. "And he’s the one who found me and brought me here.” She looked back at her friend. “If you are the Star Seishi, that means you’ll have powers too. I wonder how we’ll find out what they are…”
“Aha!” Haru sounded triumphant as he found what he was looking for in the book. “I can’t help with powers, but your Seishi name is Kiraishi.” He turned the book to show the others. “A prophecy was recorded several generations ago that foretold the names of all the Seishi to come for some time yet. Our set is the last set listed, but that doesn't mean we’re going to be the last to appear.” He began to read down the list. Here, we have Haruyoshi, Kenzo, Kurai, Kiraishi…” HE motioned to each of them in turn. “And the Empress is Washi.” It showed the name of the other Seishi, but he didn’t see a point in mentioning them as it would not help them locate the last two. He closed the book and smiled at the others. “Not bad, for a day’s work, Hotori-chan. You two might be going home sooner rather than later.”
Hotori felt sad at that light tease. She loved her home and her family, but she had only just gotten here and… she glanced at Isamu… She wanted to get to know everyone much better first. “I’m sure it won’t always be easy, Haru-kun. We've still got to find out what I need to do to help Konan, after all…”

Shouri dabbed at her eyes as she pulled away from her embrace with Hotori. It really was so good to see her. She thought of Hajime coming home from work and discovering the book, laid out among the others. What would he think? Would he get pulled in too? Having her brother with her would help so much, but she wouldn't want him to go through what she had...
Her friend began to introduce her to the other Seishi with them. She started with the first young man that she had met. The ever-kind and patient Haru. “Shouri, this is Haru-kun…although I think you two have already met. He can heal injuries, and he fixed some injuries I got when some men attacked me earlier.” Shouri blinked at the mention of an attack, but before she could react, her friend had already moved on. “This is Isamu-kun.” A very faint blush. “He can control ice. He rescued me from some men that attacked me…and then from some quicksand…” Shouri muffled a smile she felt coming on when she saw Hotori blush when she introduced Isamu. It seemed they had gotten a bit more acquainted than the others. She would have to see what she thought of that. “And this is Meian-nii…I don’t know what his powers are yet, but...He's basically Batman." She imagined the young red-haired man wearing a long cape and a bat mask, hiding expensive gadgets in his clothes, and it did kind of make her want to giggle too. "And he’s the one who found me and brought me here.”
Shouri looked around at the group of Seishi and wondered how she would fit in with them. “If you are the Star Seishi, that means you’ll have powers too. I wonder how we’ll find out what they are…”
Just then, Haru announced that he had found her Seishi name, which was Kiraishi. "Um...Seishi...name?" She shook her head. That wasn't the most pressing matter. "I don't know how I'll find my powers, either, but...I thought I saw something from my necklace earlier. It kind of blinked blue at me. But...it felt more like it was telling me that I could trust Haru." She glanced at him. It was her turn to be embarrassed. "When I came here, I kind of...appeared in the middle of what I think was a fireworks display. I panicked and ran. I don't know what I had planned, but a guard caught up to me, and before I could say anything, Haru stepped up and claimed me as his sister. And...while I understand he's a good guy now, I didn't know anyone here then, I didn't know if I could trust a strange man who lied for me and wanted to buy me new clothes." By the end of her story, she was laughing at how relieved she was.

OOC: Post featuring Meian and Isamu
IC:
The only reason I haven’t sold you is because you travel more than the carnivals…”
Meian smirked, “There is no fun in settling for one place when you can travel and see the four kingdoms, especially nowadays.” His eyes softened when he looked back at Haru, truth be told, he was one of the few persons he had known for many, many years. Others were either his victims or his boss and that meant one, he did not get to know them as a person since he was there to end their lives and two, he hated his boss so why would he socialise with them?
“I told you I don’t mean to get into trouble…Meian-nii…”
Meian smirked at her blush and reaction, it really was the most amusing thing in the world to tease her and he noticed that look Haru gave him, had he guessed as well? They certainly should team up to tease, they would be an unbeatable team and he decided he would approach him on the matter.
“I know I can count on you, Isamu-kun. And Haru-kun, and Meian-nii too, I really am so lucky to have all of you here.”
Meian grinned, “Aww, you really don’t need to thank us. Our lives would be absolutely miserable without the entertainment.” He then smiled warmly at her, like an elder brother always did. While it was tre that he enjoyed teasing, he would risk his own life in order to protect Hotori no matter what.
“It has? I wonder what that means, then. It’s never happened before… I’ll have to get that book back from Shouri-san, and check something…”
Meian nodded, “As far as I can remember there is a prophecy of some sort but we would need to certify that through research.”
“It has to be your influence. She was very well behaved before she spent time with you.”
Meian smirked and moved to stand right next to Haru, “Are you sure? As far as I can remember I only took her to look at the fireworks and eat some dango, we did not go around the town wrecking havoc, that would not do. I’m a good brother.” He winked at Haru and then gently leaned his elbow atop the man’s shoulder, “Besides, surely compared to others my mischief is absolutely harmless.”
“This is Isamu-kun… He can control ice. He rescued me from some men that attacked me…and then from some quicksand…”
Isamu felt pride when Hotori stated that she was proud to have the Seishi she was given. It was good being appreciated, not everyone had that luck. When Hotori blushed he nearly did as well but he rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment and then smiled at Shouri and then said, “It is a pleasure to meet the friend Hotori spoke so much of.”
“Aha I can’t help with powers, but your Seishi name is Kiraishi… A prophecy was recorded several generations ago that foretold the names of all the Seishi to come for some time yet. Our set is the last set listed, but that doesn't mean we’re going to be the last to appear… And the Empress is Washi... Not bad, for a day’s work, Hotori-chan. You two might be going home sooner rather than later.”
“I’m sure it won’t always be easy, Haru-kun. We've still got to find out what I need to do to help Konan, after all…”
It also saddened Isamu to think of Hotori being sent back to her world but he did not show it. At the end of the day he wanted her to be where she would be the safest and the happiest, however, it made him happy to know she would miss her Seishi should she leave this world. She would also be sorely missed. Meian was quite proud of himself for remembering there was an actual prophecy and nodded at Haru’s words as he was still standing next to the man.
"Um...Seishi...name? I don't know how I'll find my powers, either, but...I thought I saw something from my necklace earlier. It kind of blinked blue at me. But...it felt more like it was telling me that I could trust Haru."
Isamu moved to stand right in front of the ladies and then said respectfully, “May I?” He was asking if he could examine Shouri’s necklace for a moment, “I sense magic emanating from the necklace, so I would like to examine it if that is okay with you.” He then added, “Some Seishi experienced their powers at an early age, like I did, others, it is influenced by situations of imminent danger or stress where the powers aid them to overcome whatever is causing such negative emotions. Perhaps you will figure them out the longer you spend in Konan.”
"When I came here, I kind of...appeared in the middle of what I think was a fireworks display. I panicked and ran. I don't know what I had planned, but a guard caught up to me, and before I could say anything, Haru stepped up and claimed me as his sister. And...while I understand he's a good guy now, I didn't know anyone here then, I didn't know if I could trust a strange man who lied for me and wanted to buy me new clothes."
Meian nearly smirked at how generous Haru was in general. But he noticed something in him and the story the lady Seishi explained was truly remarkable in that not only had he come up with a good excuse to have no one suspect her, he also thought about getting her clothes to fit Konan and even ensured she would get as much knowledge on the matter as possible. He turned to smile at Haru through his hood and then said, “Ay papi lindo. You really spared her any danger didn't you? Always the hero.” His shoulders shook in laughter while the hand of his arm that was right next to his caressed the palm of his hand in a teasing manner before he intertwined their fingers. He then whispered in his ear, “You are naghty, Haru-kun.” He then kissed his cheek for good measure.
Isamu looked at Shouri for a moment before he said, “Have you had anything to eat? Do you need anything?” He then noticed that the air was getting colder and he took off his cloak and placed it around Hotori’s shoulders in order to keep her warm, “We were planning to follow a scenic path to the Imperial Palace in order for the both of you to learn about the traditions and customs of Konan and to also enjoy yourselves while you are here.” He smiled at both of them.

“There is no fun in settling for one place when you can travel and see the four kingdoms, especially nowadays. Aww, you really don’t need to thank us. Our lives would be absolutely miserable without the entertainment.”
Haru shook his head, but smiled. Truth be told, he was looking forward to getting to really travel and see parts of Konan he had never seen before. He did travel more than most in his family - in his entire village, really - but he still never went anywhere further than a day’s journey from home. He was excited to see the rest of the country, and maybe he could find somewhere that felt like a better fit for him. His village was nice. It was home… but he could never really settle here.
Hotori smiled, and pulled away from Shouri to hug Meian tightly. She knew something the others did not…she knew that it caused him pain to help them and to be kind to them… but he cared enough to do it anyway. For that reason, as well as the fact that he had been the first to find her and help her, she did indeed already love him like a brother. After hugging him tightly for a long moment, she stretched up to kiss his cheek, then moved back to her friend. She didn’t say anything, but she had the feeling Meian would understand anyway.
“As far as I can remember there is a prophecy of some sort but we would need to certify that through research.”
Haru nodded, thinking. “I have a contact with the Imperial Library of Kutou… A distant cousin of my mother, Kenji, is the librarian. I send him herbal remedies to pass along to one of the advisors, and he’s happy to do any research I ask him. I’ll go send a messenger with a letter when we’re done here. If He can get the Emperor to send the message, it can meet up with us wherever we are. Maybe he can dig something up for us…”
“Are you sure? As far as I can remember I only took her to look at the fireworks and eat some dango, we did not go around the town wrecking havoc, that would not do. I’m a good brother. Besides, surely compared to others my mischief is absolutely harmless.”
Haru laughed. “You do not need to cause havoc, it simply senses you are near and materialized. Besides, you forget, I am also a big brother. A fair part of that is keeping your sweet little sister safe while they get to cause just a little bit of havoc…” He softly elbowed Meian in the ribs, but smiled at him. He was a difficult man to understand most days, but he was a good man. Though Haru did have to admit that it was a bit foreboding that this time around, two Suzaku Seishi had healing abilities. Just how much trouble were they in for? He shook his head, dismissing the thought. Best not to look too concerned about anything. He didn’t want to worry the girls…
Hotori listened intently as they all discussed Seishi names and powers. She didn’t understand all of that, but she knew she could sense her Seishi and their moods, if she was close enough to them. She frowned at the knowledge that Shouri had sensed something from her necklace. “Could it have any kind of magic? She got it from her big brother…” She blushed. “I don't remember his name…” She had only ever met Gajime, so she didn’t think much of the others, usually.
“It’s possible…” Haru shrugged. “After all, if the book can draw young women from your time back into our time…maybe it could manifest a little magic once you arrive here.” He considered for a moment. “I’ll ask Kenji to look that up too… Just to see if he finds anything.”
“Ay papi lindo. You really spared her any danger didn't you? Always the hero. You are naghty, Haru-kun.”
Haru looked just a bit embarrassed, but he still smiled as he squeezed Meian’s hand. “Meian, I've told you, not in front of others... you are such a tease. Which reminds me, If you’ll stop by my room before you leave, I have something for you…” He winked, then turned his attention back to the room at large. “I also offered to get her a weapon, but since I don’t know if she has any skills, maybe it would be best to wait on that. Ideally, neither of you girls will be seeing much battle action while you’re here…”
“Have you had anything to eat? Do you need anything? We were planning to follow a scenic path to the Imperial Palace in order for the both of you to learn about the traditions and customs of Konan and to also enjoy yourselves while you are here.”
Hotori smiled and softly thanked Isamu for his cloak. She had not been all that cold yet, but it was still a nice, cozy feeling. She looked to her friend to see if she may also be cold, and willing to share the warmth of the cloak if she was. She nodded to Isamu’s brief description of their plan. “That sounds wonderful, Isamu-kun.II am sure we will enjoy ourselves, and maybe it’ll help make it easier to find the rest of our Seishi…” She really was feeling very optimistic about all of this, and though there were still things she didn't understand, she knew that they could all figure it out together. She was about to say something else when she gave a sudden, small yarn, which she tried to hide within the folds of the cloak. She’d had a very long, exciting, and exhausting day, and she knew she should rest… but part of her was scared this was just a dream, and she would wake up back home in the morning to find none of her new friends were real. She knew it was childish, but she was just a little worried that this would all be gone in the morning.

Shouri watched and observed the other Seishi interact with each other and Hotori. They seemed so at ease with each other, despite only having met Hotori that day. It made her feel even better about the situation. When she brought up the subject of her necklace, she kind of felt like she was grasping at straws. How on earth would a necklace tell her that she could trust anyone? It was just a blinking light after all. Her experience was so illogical, even to her, that it may as well have been her brain trying to calm itself down from everything happening. Then, the Seishi that Hotori seemed to like, Isamu, walked forward and asked to see it.
She hesitated. It was sentimental. Her brother bought it for her as a reminder of home when she was isolated from everything she ever knew. For a while, this necklace and her friendship with Hotori were the only things keeping her going. But…she reached into the dress that Haru had helped her acquire and brought out the necklace. A simple old coin that looked a lot like the coins used as currency in Konan with the beautiful color changing inside of a clam attached to one side. A leather cord was tied through the hole. She had actually had to replace the cord a couple of times from wear and tear. She handed the necklace to Isamu.
He said that there was indeed magic coming from the necklace, and that her power might come later during a difficult situation. She took the necklace back and stared at it for a little while. She couldn’t imagine anything magic in her world…but then there was that book. “Hey, Hotori. That reminds me. How did you get here?” They hadn’t really discussed it. “I found an old book in the back of the university library and took it home. It looked like it might help with a paper. Then it sucked me in here. Hajime is…Poor Hajime, I don’t know what he’s going to think.”
There was more movement and interaction, and Shouri kind of felt like she was being inducted into a family of older brothers. Maybe Hajime could read this part of the book and know she was okay at least to this part. Isamu spoke up again and asked if she had had anything to eat. She explained that Haru’s family had given her dinner while she studied. She watched as he placed a cloak around Hotori’s shoulders and smiled. Okay. She might have to give him her Best Friend Seal of Approval. But she’d have to see.
She later saw Hotori give Meian and strong hug, like she was letting them know she was there for them. Shouri had gotten many a hug like that from her. She wondered what Meian was going through, but didn’t want to ask. No one else did. She noticed that the guys had all called her “well behaved” at some point, which made her feel weird. Hotori was kind and considerate, and she was loyal. She knew that they were joking, but if they were going to protect her, it put a different spin on it.
Shouri tucked her necklace back under the neck like of her dress and thought that she felt a kinship with all of the men with her that was different from what she felt with her best friend. This magic stuff was going to be interesting to get used to. “So…this Empress lady. Anyone know what she’s like?”

OOC: Meian’s cameo
IC:
Meian noticed for a moment that spark in Haru’s eyes, and he wondered if he was excited for the trip and a change of scenery. He knew many that lived in one place all their lives and were happy but others, they longed to see the world and in a way Meian enjoyed travelling and discovering new places. He smiled for a moment and was going to tease Haru some more when he was caught off-guard when Hotori embraced him but a few seconds later he returned the embrace and his cheeks blushed lightly at the kiss. He rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment and looked away. This sister of his would be his downfall but he still smiled fondly. He knew what she had intended with that embrace and he appreciated the fact that someone, besides his beloved family, appreciated the sacrifice he would undergo in order to fulfil his duty as Seishi. He felt his heart soar and he knew that the sacrifice would be worth it to protect someone as caring and compassionate as Hotori. It was a good group, everyone was devoted to their role so far and hopefully the rest of the Seishi would be the same.
Maybe he can dig something up for us…”
Meian and Isamu both nodded, at times of peace it would be a good idea to stock up on connections and information and what better place to find this information than at a library? Isamu suspected there was a good reason for one Seish of each of the Four Kingdoms to be summoned from the Miko’s word and yet they were all in the dark as to the reason, it led him to suspect that perhaps this was not the first time the Four Gods required this. If that was the case then there would be more information on the matter and it was likely to be stored in the depths of an old library. Meian then thought for a moment and siad, “I’m considering travelling to Mount Taikyoku next time I have to leave the party and speak with Taiitsukun-sama on the matter, she might know something we do not, most likely, and that may be in the books or not but also, we would not have time to look through eerie nook and cranny of the imperial libraries. It might at least put us on the right path.” Isamu nodded at him and said, “We would appreciate that.” The last thing he wanted was for the group to travel all the way there, since they already had a lot of research to do on their own and Meian was a swift traveller, it would make sense.
Meian then said, “As soon as we reach the capital I might do that then.” Isamu nodded at him and added, “Take Aka so you can send word of your findings even if you do come back. It would also be a good means to keep in touch.” Meian nodded and smirked, he really had the mind of a General, it was a shame that Konan had been deprived of two of their best generals in Isamu Li and Hanzo, but he respected their reasons for leaving.
“You do not need to cause havoc, it simply senses you are near and materialized. Besides, you forget, I am also a big brother. A fair part of that is keeping your sweet little sister safe while they get to cause just a little bit of havoc…”
Meian smirked, “I assume you have quite a few anecdotes to share with us during the trip to the capital?” He then added, “I did not expect mature Haru to have that mischievous side of his. No wonder you are so grumpy.” He was obviously joking, especially when he knew that Haru was rather playful, he had known him for years after all. He chuckled when Haru elbowed him.
“Could it have any kind of magic? She got it from her big brother… I don't remember his name…”
“It’s possible… After all, if the book can draw young women from your time back into our time…maybe it could manifest a little magic once you arrive here. I’ll ask Kenji to look that up too… Just to see if he finds anything.”
Isamu listened to their comments, they seemed to back his suspicions but he could test it with a little bit of his own magic. He allowed Shouri enough time to decide if she would trust him with her necklace and he was relieved to see she did, he reverently took the necklace from her and gently extended a hand to it, his eyes then glowed a shade of red and a gentle light seemed to sparkle from the necklace, he closed his eyes and as soon as he opened them, they were back to their usual amber colour. He examined it for a second longer and returned it to Shouri before saying, “There is magic in it and I sense Suzaku’s power, I did not sense any malice in it, however, it might be a good idea to get input from Kenji-san and Taiitsukun-sama and see what they think of the matter.” Meian nodded, he would make sure to ask.
“Meian, I've told you, not in front of others... you are such a tease. Which reminds me, If you’ll stop by my room before you leave, I have something for you…”
Meian chuckled, noticing the embarrassment in Haru’s eyes and his hand gently let go of his own and he said softly, for his ears only, “Why papi? Does it make you blush if I do this in public?” His hand moved to caress his cheek and he winked as a finger teasingly stopped at his lower lip before he removed his hand completely. When he mentioned he had something for him and winked, that made Meian blush deeply and he rubbed the back of his head mumbling, “Now that level of teasing is unfair.” Still he smiled and would of course make sure to go see Haru. Which reminded him, “By the way, you might have to share your room with me again.” This was Meian’s turn to wink at him.
“I also offered to get her a weapon, but since I don’t know if she has any skills, maybe it would be best to wait on that. Ideally, neither of you girls will be seeing much battle action while you’re here…”
Isamu nodded and said, “It will be good to learn of Shouri’s skills and help her control them but I agree, we will have to plan our battles-should they occur-with Shouri as the last line of defence to ensure both their safeties.”
“So…this Empress lady. Anyone know what she’s like?”
Isamu shrugged and said, “She is every bit the Empress Suzaku had devised, stubborn to a fault and devoted to her people. She will be pleased to know that our Miko has been found and that most of the Seishi will be together, finding the remaining ones will be our top priority I’m sure.”
“That sounds wonderful, Isamu-kun.II am sure we will enjoy ourselves, and maybe it’ll help make it easier to find the rest of our Seishi…”
Isamu nodded at Shouri’s words and smiled at Hotori’s enthusiasm. He was glad he had taken the time to plan their trip so that they could enjoy themselves. He noticed that Hotori was beginning to show signs of tiredness and he smiled tenderly. He then turned to look at Meian and Haru and the hooded Seishi then said placing an arm around Haru’s shoulders, “So, shall we let our Miko sleep and head for your room?” He wiggled his eyebrows at him and smirked. “But first, we can escort Shouri to her room.” Meian smiled at her.

OOC: With the departure of Washi, the decision was made to keep going with this thread, rather than to scrap it and start over yet again. With that in mind, Some events have to be altered. Basically, no mention or interaction with the characters Shouri or the Empress Washi have occurred here. Hotori landed in this world, was found by Meian and brought to Isamu. After getting placed in danger by Akhram and rescued by Isamu, Haru joined them and healed their injuries before taking them back to his family’s inn to help them get settled. Hotori was given new clothes and escorted to the festival to have a nice time with Isamu, then “kidnapped” by Meian to watch fireworks before being taken to Isamu’s room to meet up with the others. During this time, Haru was doing work around the inn and running errands for his family. Now the four of them are talking about their trip to find the other Seishi. They have also discussed that there seems to be a seishi for each group that comes from the world of the Miko, but they haven't yet met the one for Suzaku. Make sense? Good. IC: “I’m considering traveling to Mount Taikyoku next time I have to leave the party and speak with Taiitsukun-sama on the matter, she might know something we do not, most likely, and that may be in the books or not but also, we would not have time to look through eerie nook and cranny of the imperial libraries. It might at least put us on the right path.”
“We would appreciate that.”
“As soon as we reach the capital I might do that then.”
“Take Aka so you can send word of your findings even if you do come back. It would also be a good means to keep in touch.”Hotori listened to the two men talk, and frowned slightly. “Taiitsukun-sama? Who is that?” Haru smiled. So there was something about their world his bright little Miko didn’t already know… “She is known as the Creator. The exact extent of her powers are unknown, but she is very strong and very wise. It is believed that she is the one who summons Miko into this world.” He looked at Meian and shook his head with a smirk. “Why am I not surprised that you know her?” “I assume you have quite a few anecdotes to share with us during the trip to the capital?”“I'm simply the son of a humble innkeeper, I don’t have many stories to tell.” Haru said, looking innocent, but then he laughed. “You know most of them already, but I might entertain little Hotori-chan with them.” He realized, however, that there was one fact that he needed to share with the group before he set out traveling with them. Well, perhaps there were two things, but he was not about to tell them one of them. He liked this group, and he was not about to make them feel uncomfortable. “There is something I do need to share with you all now, however. You see… I was adopted.” Hotori smiled brightly. “You have adoption here? That’s so sweet. My great aunt adopted me when I was little and my parents died…” Haru smiled at her. “Yes, my story is something like that. you see, my mother and father were wolf spirits, and…” He didn’t want to trouble Hotori with the unpleasant details, so he chose to gloss over them for now. “When they could no longer look after me, I was found by my human mother and father, the ones I introduced you to, when we arrived.” Hotori’s eyes grew wide. “You are a wolf spirit? I didn’t know those were real…” Taking a chance, he decided to allow his ears and tail to show, and Hotori bounced with excitement, moving forward to gently pet his tail and reach way up to rub his ears. Haru rolled his eyes, but chuckled. “Just like my little sisters, and all of their children…” He patted Hotori on the head, but turned his attention back to the others. “I tend to live as a human so that I do not attract hunters, but my inclination is to travel in this form or my wolf form because my senses are just a bit more acute. Of course, if we are in a town, I will appear human, and if you are not comfortable with this, I will keep them hidden.” Talk soon turned to the trip Isamu had planned, and that brought up another topic Haru wanted to mention. “I was going to suggest… I know of a village that isn’t too far from here that is large enough to have most everything we should need for our journey. I was thinking that I may set out in the morning and head there to get what we need. Perhaps a cart or wagon would be easier to travel with, for Hotori-chan, than simply on horseback or by foot, and of course I would get any other supplies you think we’ll need.” He smiled. “That would also give Hotori-chan a few more days to rest up before we have to set out on the trip.” He waited only for the former General to agree to this idea, and give him a list of anything specific he wanted, and then he - like the others - noticed that Hotori was getting tired. “So, shall we let our Miko sleep and head for your room?”Haru rolled his eyes. “You just hope I’ve got more cookies in my room…” He chuckled when Hotori hugged him and then Meian, and the two men left the room. Hotori looked up at Isamu and blushed just a little as she slid out of his cloak and offered it back to him. “Thank you for everything, Isamu-kun. I hope you sleep well.” She felt the sudden urge to kiss his cheek goodnight, but she only blushed more, smiled at him, and moved to return to her room. Once there, she changed into one of the nightgowns that had been bought for her, and settled down to sleep. Despite being so exhausted, she found herself laying awake for some time thinking about her Seishi and wondering what the rest of them would be like. When she did finally sleep, it was soundly and peacefully. ~ ~ ~ The next afternoon, Haru was making his way down a path that wound through thick woods. Despite the shade, it was quite hot today, and he decided to make a small detour to cool off. The village was a couple of days’ walk one way, so he could spare a little time cooling off before he continued. He took a detour to the river he knew ran nearby, through a bright, sunny clearing. Despite being sunny, it also seemed cooler as the water brought a nice breeze with it. Looking around, he made sure he was alone before he dropped his bag on the ground, stripped and dove into the river for a swim. He had allowed his ears and tail to stay out as soon as he was out of sight of his village, and he was quite enjoying himself. Besides, he thought with a grin as he swam, it would be good for Hotori and Isamu to spend some time together… ~ ~ ~ Hotori had slept late into the next morning, more exhausted from everything the day before than she had realized. When she finally woke, it was early afternoon, and she decided to dress and then head down to see if Haru’s mother had any leftover breakfast - or maybe even lunch - that she could have before seeing what Isamu wanted to do for the time being, while Haru was on his supply run. That was assuming, of course, that Isamu was not busy with plans for the trip. Haru had left her some books about the mythology and history of the Suzaku no Miko - and the other three kingdoms as well - and she supposed she could read for a while to keep herself occupied, if necessary. She pulled the nightgown off over her head and laid it out carefully on the bed. These clothes all seemed so much nicer than what she was used to wearing, though Haru had insisted that they were all pretty common around here. Pulling on clean undergarments, she was looking at her selection of dresses, and wondering which one she should wear today when she heard a little sound over by her bed. Confused, as she hadn’t left anything over there that should be making any kind of noise, she walked back over and crouched down to have a look. Unable to see anything, she moved to her hands and knees, and peered underneath her bed. She heard a soft scratching noise, and then a tiny figure darted from one spot under the bed to another. Recognizing big round ears and a long, thin tail, Hotori was startled when the little mouse darted closer, and she gave a shriek as she fell back onto her bottom and began to scramble back away from the bed, forgetting that she was not yet fully dressed. ~ ~ ~ In modern day Beijing, in a small coed apartment on the campus of one of the most prestigious Chinese universities, a young woman of about 24 was bustling around the kitchen. Dressed in a black tank top, and long flowing black skirt, with heavy eyeliner, and dark lipstick, it was impossible to mistake this young woman for anything but a Goth. Her dark hair fell to her upper back, and was loose, with a single stripe in the front left side scarlet. She was short and petite, and would have looked like a Japanese schoolgirl if not for the deliberate effort to distance herself from the stereotype. Currently, Michiko - though she pestered the name Misery - was fixing dinner for herself and her roommate. She got her veggie burgers fixed up just the way she liked them, and checked to make sure that Eli's food was fixed the way he preferred. Nodding to herself, she grabbed a plate of blood sausages, with a single brownie for dessert, and a mug of spiced animal blood, and moved to knock on his door. "Hey, Fangs, brought you food! You know, that thing you need to have the energy to study…" Honestly, sometimes having a vampire roommate was pretty awesome. She would never dream of having the kind of diet he did, but she didn't mind cooking for him as long as she didn't have to eat it. He often forgot to take a break to eat if he was too distracted with his work, so she had started fixing him something anytime she ate. She was never the best cook, but she had learned to alter a few recipes to give him some culinary options. Sure, the local butcher probably thought she was summoning demons, with the amount of animal blood she got from him a week, but considering that it would have been trashed and she offered to pay for it, he didn't seem to ask too many questions.
